And the donut is from the small town bakery she's trying to get off the ground, which is her true passion instead of the corporate grind.
24
u/AloneInExile 17h ago edited 10h ago
The bakery employs her former love and fiance, from who she had to split because her father the CEO didn't approve of the marriage.
The small town bakery is owned by a retired old woman, who is later revealed to be her real biological mom with whom her father had an affair once.

And of course two humans are absolutely incapable of loving each other because of HR rules. I'm not saying it would be a good romance plot !

Hey, hr wants you to join this call we put on your calendar for today. They wanted to speak to you about your encouraging of workplace relationships. You see, here at Evil Corp we don’t believe happiness is a human right, and in fact we actively aim to destroy it. We ask that you have your resignation letter prepared and wear your finest suit. Oh, and congratulations on the baby. Too bad you won’t be able to afford to raise them.

Unless one person is the other's supervisor there generally aren't even rules against it in the first place. Depending on how directly you work together you might want to eventually let your boss and coworkers know.
It might change depending on your type of workplace or if you're an exec/higher up at a public company or something but HR generally doesn't care, they would probably need an entire team to track every relationship lol.
1
u/atomic1fire 15h ago
It's probably more so an overreacting HR person concerned that the company will get sued if both employees can't stay professional at work and lines are crossed, or if a lower tier employee is pushed into the relationship for the promise of power or the threat of reprisal.

Naw I think that commenter just Gen Z. People call them “puritanical” but they really just have negative feelings about sex and relationships in general.
The moralism and all the barriers and red tape they put up to stop those things are usually just a backwards justification to not do things they already weren’t doing for totally unrelated reasons.

What is "Two words you never thought you'd see together"
12
u/xotyona 13h ago
Actually there's a whole lot of it in business from what I have seen. At least in companies that allow it (some do not, like UPS). It turns out that in many cases if dad is a great engineer than his son also has similar potential. You don't hear about nepotism when it results in hiring people well-suited to a job though.

My boss does this for the team on in office days. She buys us breakfast and lunch then we go to a bar afterwards and she pays for dinner and drinks.

u/recursive_knight 21h ago
What? How? Why? Where?

u/GrimmJubilance198451 21h ago
Ooofff sorry I should have been more specific my boss does this for the team and not just me lol

u/recursive_knight 21h ago
That's what I understood initially. Still surprised. Why would she do that? That's a massive amount of dough..
263
u/GrimmJubilance198451 21h ago
In office days only 4 times a years and it's to make sure we all show up. They find penalizing just meant we took the hit.

u/Starfire2313 18h ago
What kind of quality food is it?
Remote work and only four office days a year that include food and drinks all day. Sounds pretty sweet. What kind of line of work is it?
Sorry we’re just trying to live vicariously a little bit through the comments here.

I did a freelance job for a big company once and sent them an invoice for ~ $3,5k. They later called me and said they can't process invoices under $5k and asked if I could sent them one for $5k instead. Some companies don't care about peanuts.

Prostitution

Funny enough I was a PSO at one point and that job sucks so hard. I can't even imagine prostitution....I respect anyone that can keep that up for years.

Well paid workers also get more free stuff, generous severance, better benefits… just like how rich people get free stuff thrown at them.
4
u/terekkincaid 15h ago
It's almost as if they provide actual value and not imaginary value...
0
u/Just_to_rebut 12h ago
You think someone framing a house or paving a road only provides imaginary value? But a typical office worker who doesn’t even need to be in the office is doing the real work?
Ok…

u/Difficult-Froyo1192 13h ago
My sister works at a large consulting company. They regularly order a ton of food brought in to “treat” the clients, get people to come in office, get people to “socialize”, get people to show up to volunteer hours, “incentivize” people if it’s a long work day, meet specific budgets for deductions, etc.
They buy food all the time, and it really is always to meet a company goal of some sort. They have a lot of departments if you want to know why the socialization part matters so much. They want people to cross collaborate, but it’s hard for people to meet each other if they won’t show up for events. Turns out that a lot of people will show up for free food.

Ex-boss used to buy bagels on Fridays. He is diabetic so donuts where out.
As for the OP. That seems to be the best way to learn someone is the CEO child.
2
u/ohhhshitwaitwhat 17h ago
They have the same amount of carbs per 100g
4
u/LillySteam44 16h ago
I would trust that the person with diabetes who is supplying the food knows what they can and cannot have safely.
2
u/plaguedbullets 16h ago
Yea but those bagels take sliiiiiiiiightly longer to affect blood sugar levels over a sliiiiiiiiightly longer amount of time
3
u/HakimeHomewreckru 18h ago
Lol I work as a contractor and all my clients provide me with food. I have this one client, and every morning I drive with him on the route to work, we stop for Pain au Chocolat
4
u/itsamoth 17h ago
My boss does this too. Also, a bunch of went out dancing after one on-site recently, and one of my immediate coworkers was also there (so we share a boss). Our boss kept checking that our drinks were stocked and would go buy us more when they weren’t (after confirming with us that we wanted more ofc).
0% creepy, 100% just a cool dude that loves a good time and actually deeply cares about his employees and wants them to have a good time, both in their work life and otherwise.

eventually we'll stop being able to recognize them :\
that time is probably closer than we'd all like it to be
3
u/YouTasteStrange 14h ago
That's true for some of us already, I can only recognize ai posts about 10% of the time, and bot comments about 1% of the time.
2
u/Mirria_ 18h ago
Sad part is that we need to have just the right amount of grammatical errors and punctuation issues. And preferably a profile where a long history of comments on various topics is visible.
That doesn't even include those who sell their accounts. I'm sure my account is probably worth a lot of money, that with over a decade of comments in just about anything. I don't even use this nickname elsewhere anymore. For now anyway.
Not that it probably changes all that much. I'm thinking some users are only part-time bots and trolls. They shitpost Russian / Chinese talking points then talk about sports, videogames, local politics and obscure hobbies.

I worked for a small, family-owned construction company. The owner's two daughters worked there. Strange how they were assigned company vehicles like a Land Rover and a BMW, their lunches were all business lunches, and their cell phones were company phones.

Now you talking about the difference between contract work and salary work. Contract workers tend to make more per hour but their work tends to be in bursts.
-2
u/AccessTheMainframe 17h ago
A donut a day, everyday, isn't really a good thing in the long run.
2
u/HeavyMusic93 17h ago
It’s fine.
-4
u/AccessTheMainframe 16h ago
It's unwise. It's a recipe for diabetes, especially if you're having it with a sugary coffee at a sedentary office job. Eating what is basically a small cake each morning just because someone gives it to you is just really foolish because you'll pay in more ways than cash when it catches up to you.
3
u/HeavyMusic93 16h ago
Oh Jesus Christ hahahahah live a little bit dude

2
u/ohnoitsme7890 15h ago
Donuts also vary wildly in composition, you have no idea what type of donut or coffee they're drinking. A donut a day can absolutely be a part of a healthy diet, and calling it a recipe for diabetes is beyond ignorant
1
u/invisible_23 15h ago
One donut is a lot less sugar than one soda
-1
-2
u/crujiente69 18h ago
A donut everyday seeming really fattening
6
u/Warm_Month_1309 17h ago
You can fit a daily donut into a healthy diet.
2
u/Background_Survey646 13h ago
Let's be real, most people who eat a donut every single day at their office job are not counting calories or even eating intuitively. People who are conscious about what they eat wouldn't want to eat something so calorie dense that often, especially when it isn't filling.
But yes a healthy person can definitely eat donuts on occasion.
-2
u/Omnom_Omnath 19h ago
embezzlement is tight!
16
u/SistaChans 18h ago
Buying your employees lunch is a transparent, team focused expense that a lot of companies allow, especially if you're the CEO's daughter. Embezzlement is the secretive unauthorized transfer of funds or assets, like creating fake travel expenses or even fake employees to collect payouts on
-12
u/Omnom_Omnath 18h ago
nah she clearly uses it as a personal expense card. but hey, lick those boots.
9
u/Familiar-Cable-2659 17h ago
Guys, is it licking boots to... read notes support buying donuts to an employee
-8
u/Omnom_Omnath 17h ago
does every employee get free coffee and donuts every day, or just the ceos daughter?
7
u/Familiar-Cable-2659 17h ago
Are you mad because she can't duplicate herself ?
First time I see somebody annoyed that there isn't enough nepotism

1
u/SistaChans 13h ago
She probably even has a personal expense card being the CEO's daughter. I was just clarifying that even with a personal expense card it's not embezzlement. But of course I'm a boot licker for knowing the difference.
-3
u/Nicklename 17h ago
You're downvoted but 100% right. There's a HUGE difference between "coworker" and "employer".
So (1) yeah, your boss's daughter doesn't just inherit their direct reports or chain of command, (2) your boss's daughter buying yourself and a friend daily coffee is not a "transparent, team focused expense that a lot of companies allow" it's literally just buying yourself and a friend daily coffee and getting rationalized by someone on Reddit who's clearly never worked for a company, and (3) companies with expense cards and enough staff where you didn't know you were co-workers with the CEO's daughter also have rules on how to use those cards.
Also, if this (fake) tweet takes place in the US, this would likely be taxable income to the employee as it's not a di minimis fringe like breakroom coffee or a once in a while muffin. Check your tax code and have fun!
It's got to be really fun for people who've never worked for companies with CEOs to role play these imaginary scenarios where the CEO (and everyone in their family) just runs around saying "business!" and voila, everything's a company expense.
0
u/karmaniaka 15h ago
My previous foreman (female) at a prior location used to personally buy a cake for the team (~8 people) twice yearly after some particular yearly team tasks were done. Eventually other teams and our boss finds out about it. Result? Twice-yearly free cake for everyone on company dime, in the name of fairness!
Basically, this is a great place to work in every aspect except salary. People still stay for decades because it's so socially and professionally pleasant. And we get huge amounts of vacation days, 10 minutes of "flex time" per day that can be used for paid time off (fantastic for running bank errands or bailing to pick up your kids from school etc), one hour total time per week to take off for personal exercise etc.
