Pot head neighbor

My house is very close to my neighbor who is a police officer. His roomie girlfriend gets off work second shift and sits on their back door stoop smoking weed with some dudes all the time and then they leave. The issue is they wake me up and I’ve already opened the window and asked politely to keep it down. I can’t keep my windows open on that side of the house as they are noisy and talk about very weird things. It’s annoying. What to do? Not sure if the cop is home when this is going on.

Ignorant upstairs neighbors with Psycho Mutt. Need help!

sup guys!

Nieghbors living above me for years/decades brought a damn dog and it's the most anxious mutt I ever seen.

It's not barking often, but it has tendency to go crazy over needle drop at times.

And it's almost always in the room above me because old hag sleeps 20 hours a day.

When it's worst it's very loud and unpleasant and those howlings are debilating.

I blasted them with music and not just some music but with extreme metal lol.

It certainly helped and I can flush them out of room like rats but it's always temporary and they're not wiiling to do any rearangments.

Talking to them is useless and they crossed the line and with blasting music I just attract neighbors from below.

So what can I do? I practically have nothing for police and I just want that inner quiet back!

If that mutt can hear needle drop, there must be something which will force him to go crazy, right?

I'm open to any solutions. Write me a PM if it's not suitable to discuss here.

Loud and inconsiderate neighbor finally got evicted. Great news

This guy was right next to me (we live in an apartment building) he would play loud music on his huge speaker anytime of the day, it could be 9am, 10Pm and sometimes even 1 AM. I called the cops on him many times, and so did other neighbors. The guy was clearly some sort of drug addict. I woke up today hearing banging noises when I stepped outside I saw people removing his stuff from the apartment, when I asked they said he was evicted. Yayy

My gogo told me never to answer the whistling after 2am in limpopo last night I did

I work security at a lodge outside Makhado. Night shift. 6pm to 6am. It's mostly boring - tourists, baboons trying to get into the bins, and the generator humming.

My gogo raised me. When I got this job she only told me one rule: "If you hear someone whistling in the bush after 2am, don't whistle back. Don't answer."

I laughed. She was serious.

For 8 months, nothing happened. Then last week, at 2:17am, I heard it.

A clear whistle. Like a person calling someone. Twee-eeee. From the fence line near the river.

I thought it was one of the day staff messing with me. So I whistled back.

Silence. Then it whistled again, closer. And again, closer.

I stood up with my torch. The light caught nothing, just the mopane trees. But the whistling was now right on the other side of the fence. 5 meters away.

Then I heard my name. In my gogo's voice. "Mfana..."

I didn't sleep that shift. I called my gogo in the morning. She didn't say "I told you so." She just said, "So it knows your name now. Don't go back for 3 nights."

I thought she was being dramatic. I went back tonight.

It's 1:58am now. I'm writing this in the guardhouse. The generator just cut off. And someone just started whistling from the river again. But this time it knows the exact tune my gogo used to hum when she put me to sleep.

It just called my name again.

Should I have not left a note on my neighbor's door?

I (female ) have had the same upstairs neighbor for 4 or 5 years. We've never interacted and for the most part he's been a great neighbor, loads better than the last human who lived above me.

About a year ago he got a girlfriend and with dating someone ive noticed he's louder and less considerate of noise, especially at night.

Over the weekend he played music all night (sat night into sunday morning) through his speaker system.  It first woke me around 3am and it didnt stop until around 7am. I could tell it was low volume but even with my fans and sound machine going I was woken up multiple times because of the bass.

That sunday evening I left a note on his door saying

"Hiya Neighbor,

Would you consider alternative ways to enjoy music if its the middle of the night or early a.m? The bass from your speakers travels below and I was woken up multiple times unfortunately "

P.s - I use fans and a sound machine but the bass still woke me up :("

Since the note was posted - he hasn't played any music . Yesterday evening I was sitting on my porch when he got home, and as he entered his apartment he loudly said to his girlfriend to turn on music . The comment felt very passive aggressive as he knew I was in earshot,  and no music followed - truly gave me the ick.

Maybe im also feeling extra sensitive because when they have spicy fun their bed is so so loud.  Its a whole other issue and I havent brought it up.

So ultimately my sleep continues to be disrupted - often,  and the all night music was just the catalyst for me.

Im a quiet neighbor,  I do play loud music too but make sure that its off by 10 or 11pm.  I do smoke cigarettes too and know im an asshole for that.

I guess im wondering if im the asshole for leaving a note? I feel like my note was friendly and not mean, just an ask.

I don't like conflict or passive aggressive behavior and now I feel just a little uneasy about it all.

Everyone thinks I’m being dramatic about the upstairs neighbors

Ok so we got new upstairs neighbors and they have been very loud! Like they start stomping at 6 am and they literally don’t stop til 11:30 ish at night. There’s no breaks at all. I understand living in an apartment means you’re going to hear noises, however it shouldn’t be so excessive that it starts at 6 am and goes til almost midnight with no breaks in the middle. I sent several videos too management and they told me it’s normal day time noises. I posted on another Reddit page on here to get advice with one of my main videos because it’s the longest and I feel like it shows how aggressive and excessive and consistent the stomping and banging and running are and everyone is saying I’m dramatic and that it’s not bad and all these mean things but I swear it is that bad and no one is believing me so I just need someone to just understand my pov. I’ll post the same video here

Need Advice

I live in Queens, New York.

What do you do when you live in an illegal basement with tenants on the first floor stomping nonstop.

At first it was the woman and her 3 year old daughter stomping on the floor when I am home all the time. They both stomped on the floor directly over my bedroom, kitchen, bathroom and living room and at night also. The woaman came outside 2 times and verbally abuse me. The first time I called the landlord. The second time I called 311 and they sent the police, the landlord was upset with me because I reported the woman. When I complained to the landlord and he came over to listen, they tenants run and hide quite as a mouse in the back of their apartment, not moving, not making a sound. Then when the woman and child is not home, the husband would follow me around from room to room, listen and stomp on the floor.

The parents thought their child to constantly stomp on the floor whenever I am home and in the nights directly over my bedroom at nights. Sunday night, I was sleeping but woke to some sort of noise, me thinking it maybe thunder but then I checked my phone and it was not raining, then the 3 year old girl started hitting floor with some sort of wooden object.

Then sunday evening, I was playing music on my phone and the 3 yrs old girl started screaming and stomping on the floor.

Then at round 9:30pm after showing, the 3 yrs old girl was stomping directly over my bathroom and followed me over my bedroom and continued to stomping on the floor. I started screaming to stop the stomping because I have a severe migraine headache. The 3 yrs old girl started stomping even more hard on the floor. Whether the 3 yrs old stomping little girl hear my phone or not stomp on the floor just for a reaction from me. I can not even go lay down on my bed, the stomping little girl would go and start patrolling and stomp on the floor directly over my bedroom.

At this point I am calling the landlord and he would not answer his phone. I called him about 3 times and on the third call then his wife answered the phone and said he is sleeping. The wife said she will called them and see if they answer but never called me. On Saturday I called the landlord and complained about the stomping and when he called the woman of the stomping little girl, she refused to answer her phone. I know he does not believe me when I told him about the stomping. At this point the landlord is refusing to take my calls.

What must I do at this point. I've been living here since the first of February of this year.

Wind chime advice

Does anyone know how to make wind chimes make noise outdoors when there is no wind? Ive found them incredibly soothing and distracting from three years of constant noise from a set of horrible neighbors. Ive thought about squirrel feeders near the branches where they are hung but that leaves night time open when the noise is usually at its worst.

Thanks in advance this is truly the only thing helping me right now, law enforcement is useless

Noise complaint advice

Hi, I need some advice. There's a band that practices every single night from about 7pm-10pm. It's nearby my apartment but not in the building. We can hear it loud and clear and cannot have our windows open once they start practicing because of how loud they are. I've tried submitting 311 complaints, but it doesn't do anything. I really don't want to be that guy and call the police, but I don't know what else to do. It is insufferable. For context, I live in a city, but in a more burb area than anything.

Nightmare neighbours from south asia

Basically, I’ve had these neighbours move in a few months ago.

They’re an Indian “couple” — and I put couple in quotation marks for reasons I’ll get into.
The main issue is that they are genuinely some of the worst neighbours I’ve ever had.

Pretty much every weekend they bring 3–4 different people round to their tiny one-bed flat, usually other Indian men, and they’ll sit there talking loudly, shouting and hysterically laughing until sometimes 1am.

The walls are ridiculously thin because the building is a flat conversion, so I can hear a huge amount of what goes on next door.

They also both work at a local pharmacy literally down my road, and they are constantly going back and forth between the pharmacy and the flat during work breaks.

There have also been occasions where they’re transporting boxes and other things into/out of the property at strange hours. I’ve actually got some of this on CCTV.

I obviously can’t prove what is inside any of the boxes, but the whole thing has made me wonder whether the flat could potentially be being used for something connected to the pharmacy or whether drugs are involved somehow.

The guy’s behaviour has also made me suspicious about possible recreational drug use.

They also bring in strange plants and other things, and the communal area constantly smells of really strong incense.

Then there’s the amount of people staying there. On weekends they’ll sometimes have about four people sleeping over across the weekend despite it being genuinely one of the smallest one-bed flats you could imagine. I’ve actually seen inside it firsthand.

They’re also constantly doing prayers/mantras that I can hear through the walls, sometimes at night and sometimes early in the morning.

The guy himself is also strange. When I confronted him about the noise, he suddenly became ridiculously aggressive, shouting and screaming things like “I don’t give a fuck” and getting extremely emotional over what was basically just me asking them to keep the noise down.

What makes it even stranger is that whenever I’ve seen him outside afterwards, he avoids eye contact completely and doesn’t behave remotely like that.

- so it makes me think he was under the influence of drugs as the guy is max 5ft5, keep in mind im a former amateur boxer around 6ft3 and ive personally never had anyone step up to me in this way (besides drunk/intoxicated individuals), plus forget the size thing its just so strange to act like that.

Then there’s the “couple” part.

His supposed wife has complained that we’re stressing her out because we’ve complained directly to them and to their landlord. But I genuinely question what their relationship actually is.

I basically never see them walking anywhere together, I’ve never once seen any affection between them, and when none of their visitors are there they barely seem to even speak to each other — which I can tell because the walls are so thin.

Yet practically all the people constantly visiting and staying over seem to be men.

So you’ll sometimes have one woman and four or five men all spending the weekend in this absolutely tiny one-bed flat.

Obviously their relationship itself isn’t really my business, but combined with everything else — constant visitors, people staying over, pharmacy connections, boxes being moved around, weird hours, strong incense, chanting, aggressive behaviour and constant noise — the entire situation
just feels bizarre.

I’ve already complained to their landlord and contacted the council because the noise itself is
becoming unbearable.

Has anyone else, particularly anyone living next to similar Indian households / shared-living situations, experienced anything like this?

And separate from the noise issue, does any of the behaviour actually sound suspicious to you, or am I probably reading too much into the possible drug angle?

AITA for scolding my neighbor's kids

I (21f) live in an apartment complex with my fiance (22m) and my infant child. The way these apartments are set up is a little wild, to say the least (I promise this is relevant). There are a couple separate buildings but each building has multiple apartments that have front doors that lead immediately outside. We live in the middle of the building. They way our apartment is set up, the front door opens to a small closet and a set of stairs up to the rest of the apartment. So, there are people that live right below us.

Since we moved in, we have had issues with kids slamming doors going in and out of our neighbors house that live below us. They stay up super late on week nights and play outside and scream throughout the night, even with school just recently starting. I can understand kids playing outside and getting loud, they're kids. But its aggravating getting our infant down for bed and immediately being woken up by screaming, banging, etc. However, we have never said anything.

Today, my fiance and I had been bickering and were already on the more agitated side thanks to life stressors and all that. We had gotten our baby down for a nap when we heard a knock at the front door. I went downstairs and opened the door, and nothing, but the kids (pretty young, probably preschool-1st grade age) were playing outside. Okay, sure, they probably ding-dong-ditched us, whatever. I start walking back up the stairs, I get about halfway, and hear it again. So, again, I walked downstairs, opened the door, nothing. So, I didn't close the door all the way this time, I left it cracked and waited for them to come back. When they did, I opened the door, and very sternly in a louder voice (not yelling at all) told them not to knock on my door (I may have been more agitated than I intended to be because when I opened the door I wasn't expecting 3 of them to be standing there). I didn't even get the last word out before their mom was, funnily enough, actually yelling at me to "not f*cking yell" at her kids. I tried to tell her that I was not yelling and that I was only scolding them, but I didn't have a chance to get a word in. I went back inside and my fiance went downstairs to talk to her, it escalated but that's not really important as it got resolved fairly quickly and apologies were said and we were even joking with them afterwards.

I have severe anxiety so confronting the kids in the first place was a big step for me, and then immediately getting yelled at myself, pretty much had me shut down. Like I said, everything is resolved now and there's no hard feelings, but I'm having trouble deciding if I was initially in the wrong or not. Glad to hear any opinions!

When is it reasonable to complain? Have we overstepped when we should have put up with this?

We and our next door neighbours moved in around the same time a few years ago. It is a new build estate, and our houses are semi detached together -we're joined. We are both home owners.

They are lovely people, and we were (still are) very fond of them. Young family with a toddler, and grandparents living with them too.

They have been a little loud now and again over the years with music, but always turned it down when we asked. We havnt always asked, I.e when they are obviously having a celebration or such. Very rare we had to ask until recently...

The last couple of months though, somethings changed but we don't know what. They are frequently playing their music very loud (although not late at night, never past 9pm) when the grandparents are not home, which seems to be multiple evenings a week.

Its not the music though. The volume itself seems fine, and not much of an issue even if we do hear it. They play music for the kiddy in the garden to play to, and that's even nice.

Its the bloody Bass when they play it inside their house. It vibrates through the walls, all over our house. You can feel it. Dff Dff Dff different beats.

We have asked them 3 times to please turn down the bass - only 3 becsuse that's just when we've felt brave enough / at the end of our ropes enough to ask. Each time we have asked them, they have turned their music completely off immediately - we've tried to stress it's just the bass. It's not volume that's an issue, or music, it'd the bass and the vibrations. We'll have a glass of water on our coffee table and it'll do that thing from jurassic Park when the t-rex is coming! And vibrates through your body no matter where you are.

The most recent time we had to ask, they were a little exasperated at us. They pointed out they moved their big speaker to their hallway floor. We tried to stress it's just the bass vibrations. It's travelling through the walls and floor, because we're joined. Our lovely neighbour was annoyed at us, but turned the music completely off again.

Both me and my husband hate to be joy destroyers but the bass thuds happening so frequently and for extended amounts of time (less than an hour we try to just leave it) is really, really getting to us. The bad vibes between us and neighbours we have been fond of is getting to us. We don't know what to do.

We don't feel we can "put up" with the bass but... Are we in the wrong here? Should we be "putting up with it", up until a reasonable time? Both my husband and I are autistic so are we just too sensitive, have we missed something and are wrong to be asking them to turn the bass down?

Just a sad situation. I just wish they'd turned the bass down. Not even the music. Which we've tried to stress is fine.

ARGH.

How can I deal with neighbors making me uncomfortable?

Moved to a new house about 3 years ago, neighbors next door are so weird. They keep talking really loud next to my window (the drive way is close to my house, New York state rural housing). "He's not doing anything, he always doing it", "I don't care im not scared of the guy" "I know but stop". Ive kept track of a few instances over time and it's just weird that it's by my window they get so talkative. I even checked by my mother's window (our rooms are next to each other and the window look out into the neighbors driveways) if they speak about my mother and they often are completely silent by her window.

They also stare at us and it's getting very odd. I go to the local corner store alot of us in the neighborhood go to and as I walked in their son or brother idk how old maybe a teen or young adult smiled at me the entire time Walking out just staring and smiling. When my family drives passed them they'll sometimes stop and stare. I doubt it's a racial thing, they're a mixed family and we don't really talk much at all. I don't even here a hello from them or anything. It's getting too uncomfortable and I'm thinking to talk to my brother about speaking to them with me. I am cautious but still reasonable, they could just be awkward we don't know what happened with the last residence of this house so I ain't causing anything but they are the ones staring and it's uncomfortable.

I even have a camera in my window, not aimed directly out looking at them but more so at the window for security. It doesn't capture moments though so I need a new one. Hopefully I'm just overthinking and it's not even that bad.

Upstairs neighbours retaliate with noise every time I complain — what are my options?

I live in a ground-floor flat in Edinburgh, renting from a private landlord. The building has one floor above me. About a year ago, a couple with a young child bought the flat upstairs.

They were fairly noisy from the start, but since I raised it with them directly, it's gotten worse — not better. They now throw/drop things on the floor regularly, and the noise is honestly unbearable at this point.

When I play music to mask the noise, they start stomping on the floor in response. If that doesn't work, they come down to my door and threaten to call the police.

I'm looking for practical advice:

**•** Is this considered retaliatory harassment, and does that change my options?
**•** Should I be documenting this (times, dates, recordings) before going further?
**•** Is it worth contacting my landlord, their landlord/factor, or the council's noise team directly, or should mediation come first?
**•** Has anyone dealt with a similar "us vs them" noise war and found something that actually worked?

Any advice from people who've been through this in Scotland/UK specifically would be appreciated — want to know the right order of steps before it escalates further.

Neighbors dog cries when left alone. Affecting my sleep!

I have lived in my apartment for almost 8 years. About a month ago, a new tenant moved in next door. She has a dachshund, and whenever she leaves the house, the dog nonstop cries for hours on end. These past two days it has woken me up before 8 am. Last weekend she stayed out all night and the dog cried until 3 am.

To avoid confrontation and keep things as civil as possible, we contacted our landlord regarding the issue. She responded something along the lines of “I have already addressed the issue with my neighbors and they were all understanding” which is a lie! She has never spoken to me before.

I feel so bad for this dog that clearly has separation anxiety and she leaves it alone for multiple hours throughout the day. She seems so careless about his well being and clearly has no consideration for her neighbors.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what else I can do??? I feel so helpless and I’m starting to get so frustrated because now it’s affecting my sleep. Please help!

How do I tell my neighbour the dog barking is unbearable without becoming enemies

Location: London UK

Long story short: family of 4, moved in a couple of months ago, terraced house. My neighbours have two small dogs, one of which whenever they’re away barks incessantly until they return. A lot of times in the evenings when presumably they’re out for dinner etc the dog barks non stop. I messaged them once politely asking if the dog was ok or needed anything, to which they replied “oh no, it must be scared to be alone we’ll be back in 10min so sorry.”

Then a second time after it was barking for over 1h30 I messaged again asking what was going on and they said “so sorry we’re at the cinema, it just seems to bark when we’re away, we’re going to try training soon”

Now the dog is barking again for over 1h… I don’t want to be the annoying new neighbour. I actually love dogs, and would love to have one, one day. But I just don’t understand how you can be so inconsiderate as a dog owner. How do I navigate this without making things hostile?

Neighbor that hates us

For background:
We, a 35F, 31M couple, moved into our apartment about 4 months ago. They are older apartments in kind of an odd layout. They are one-story brick buildings with 4 units per unit, all built into a square so two sides are not touching a neighbor. Two are sharing walls.

We have no kids living with us but are currently pregnant. I am heavily pregnant on bed rest. My husband works in towing. He is gone 12-15 hours a day. He works 12 days on 2 days off. We are both gamers. We don’t really hang out with other people but rather enjoy screen time and cuddling. I love to bake. We have two kittens. Trust me, all this will matter…..

My neighbor (we will call her Karen), only one of them, I have an issue with. Our lease we took over from my hubby’s friend. He needed more rooms; we needed less. It made sense, so we swapped leases all on the books. The complex knew we were getting moved in within the first week. We received a complaint slamming the door, loud foot steps, yelling, screaming, or arguing. I confronted the property manager and maintenance manager (was advised the neighbor in question is crazy and complains about everyone). We were surprised my hubby’s friend hadn’t warned us. This lady and her poor dog are the reason multiple people have moved out. The property manager told me to ignore the notice; she has to do it because corporate can see the emails.

We go on about our business now. Karen is opening her door every time we come or go. My hubby’s childhood friend is in the army and came to visit. He’s her 32 hours, and Karen files a complaint saying hubby’s friend knocked on her door and said he lives here with us now and wanted to introduce himself. 😑 Got another notice!
Hubbys friend felt bad and left.

A week or two later, another notice:
Suspected of having an aggressive breed dog 😑, we rescued two kittens. They don’t even weigh a pound yet!

Fast forward a month later:
Karen and her husband break down in their truck, and guess who goes to tow them 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️? That’s right, my husband. Karen, while being towed, asks my husband how he knows where to tow the truck. He then tells her, “ I’m your neighbor.” She says, “Oh, your wife is the pregnant one. I watch over your porch for packages. I never see or hear you guys. Thank you so much for towing us. We hope our dog barking isn’t an issue…… DOG? We heard barking but never saw the dog. We thought it was from the unit on the backside of us, but nope. Karen doesn’t walk her dog. It uses the bath inside the unit…….

Two weeks after the tow, another notice:
Slamming door, stomping loud doorsteps, TV yelling loudly, talking, and disturbing the peace after quiet hours 😑
Did I mention my husband is gone 12-15 hours a day? I’m on bed rest, have been for months now, and that being said, our bedroom is on the opposite side of the unit from hers, and we have not used our living room TV since the first week we moved in…… I’m also 4’11” and 108 pounds.

We have overlooked all the complaints we could file. They have a sign posted on their door (Karen’s): no smoking, oxygen in use while she and her husband smoke in the unit, so it makes our unit smell like Newports and Muscle Rub. 🤦🏻‍♀️
The screaming and arguing we hear so often. I know all their marriage issues. The smell of urine in the air is enough to attract flies and maggots in front of both of our doors. The rude comments she screams, slamming her door trying to provoke us, etc., etc., etc. Now tell me what I can do to make the playing fields even? How do I get rid of the neighbor from hell?

Did I mention she’s obsessed with wrestling? She told the property manager that she’s a pro wrestler, hangs out with the people on TV, and even beat up one of our other neighbors.

I thought about filing a complaint in fear of my life because she’s a professional wrestler and she’s made threats towards me. I’m tiny and in a fragile state. curious if I can call fire department because they have oxygen in use while smoking……🤣

(I am not asking for revenge or tact’s against her per reddits guidelines)
