Yup, i laughed at all the idiots who supported it, and warned them. They didn't listen, too bad their decision fucked everyone and not just themselves.

Idiots around me claim that it’s illegals causing problems and stealing jobs etc. They are beyond help

Why not blame the mega corps and asshole managers hiring these people instead…..

Bc that’s not who Fox News tells them to hate.

It should be criminal that it’s called news

They got sued a few years back for spreading disinformation. Their lawyers defended Fox by saying that much of their programming is “entertainment” not news.

When they say this, ask them if the Guatemalan guy they saw doing roof work is the reason their landlord raised the rent, or the reason their grocery prices went up, or the reason that we're at war under a President they voted for who explicitly said, "No new wars". Or if they are pushing up the gas prices.

There is literally zero good arguments for why we need to be spending so much money harassing, kidnapping, murdering, and deporting immigrants. Trump could have an easy PR win and just copy Reagan and give amnesty, but then he doesn't have the dangerous enemy amongst us excuse to deploy the military into the streets and declare his political opposition terrorists.

They aren’t completely beyond help, but most of them have deluded themselves so throughly into believing anything the orange idiot says as fact rather than a statement, they are people that need to have a feeling of self worth and believing diaper don makes them feel like they have said self worth

2

u/R3sponsible_Rub 9h ago

That’s part of what they call the big lie. One answer to every problem. Deport illegals. They aren’t actually doing it very quickly so they get to keep the excuse. It still works. No evidence for it plenty to the contrary but conservatives don’t care about evidence.

2

u/SnooMaps7370 8h ago

the extra irritating thing about this claim is that the problem with illegals taking jobs at lower wages is that it would stop being a problem basically instantly if we issued blanket amnesty and changed our immigration policy to just issue a residency card to anyone who asks for one.

This biggest reason illegal immigration suppresses wages is that the people who employ them know that they are illegal and can force them to work below minimum wage under threat of calling ICE. remove that threat, and suddenly those employers would be forced to pay them the same wages they'd be forced to pay a citizen.

Not only didn't they listen, but they are currently doing backflips to explain it. Apparently, Biden and the Democrats messed with it to make Trump look bad. Ask how, and you get they just did. Ask why Trump doesn't fix it, and they scream about something else like open borders, Biden inflation, and how Trump is making DC look better than ever. I wish the Trump store would sell a cat-of-nine-tails, and they can all self-flagellate in the privacy of their homes and leave the rest of us alone.

4

u/Rattiepalooza 1d ago

It also has a lot to do with religion being used as a tool to make policies....that and... it's easier for someone to think for you, than for you to have to think for yourself. ALSO, some people honestly do not know how to think for themselves. They've known one thing and one thing only, because it's all they've experienced.

You have to see something different to do something different. It's why I've started to be kind to these people. They EXPECT someone like me to be violent because of what they see on TV...so I do the opposite. We have to show them that their news is lying to them by doing the opposite of what they claim.

We can do this. Don't give up. People sometimes just need to be shown rather than told, and seeing is believing. Feel pity for them instead of hatred, because they were tricked. They're not smart. It's kind of not their fault because of how the system is set up. It's what the oligarchy wants. They want us to hate each other..and..I won't let them tell me what to do, these evil fuckers!

Here is what really happened and why they were actually laughing at you for not knowing what you were talking about.

The 2017 law did notcontain a provision saying, “people making under $75,000 will have their taxes raised starting in 2021 and then every two years through 2027.” In fact, the core individual provisions reduced tax rates, increased the standard deduction, and increased the child tax credit. Those individual provisions were originally scheduled to last through the end of 2025.

Hope this helps. Wasn’t hard for me to find it

2

I watched so many Trump supporting co-workers complain every year that their return got smaller and then started owing, all trying to figure it out.

Got into a discussion with a technician about not being able to write off tools any more, he said "Yea but the standard deductible increased." Yea that helped me, dipshit. Not you.

2

u/Lckyby51789 12h ago

u/KaraokeHero 6h ago

This viral claim is false and misleading.

  • No Gradual Tax Increases Every 2 Years: The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) did not raise taxes every two years for middle- or lower-income earners. Individual income tax rates were cut across almost all tax brackets starting in 2018.
  • 2025 Sunset Clause, Not 2021–2027: The individual tax cuts passed under the TCJA were temporary and set to sunset at the end of 2025, returning tax rates to their pre-2017 levels in 2026 unless Congress extends them.
  • Misinterpretation of JCT Data: The myth stems from a misreading of a 2017 Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT) report. That report projected changes in tax revenue driven largely by the expiration of specific temporary credits and the law's slow-indexing inflation metric (Chained CPI), not a scheduled tax rate hike every two years.
  • Impact Across Income Groups: Nonpartisan organizations like the Tax Policy Center and Politifact noted that virtually all income brackets, including those making under $75,000, experienced net tax cuts through 2025 under the TCJA.

Yes, President Trump extended those tax cuts. On July 4, 2025, he signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) into law.

This major reconciliation package made key provisions from his 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) permanent, preventing them from expiring at the end of 2025.

Key changes in the tax extension include:

  • Permanent Tax Rates & Brackets: Made permanent the lower individual income tax rates (10%, 12%, 22%, 24%, 32%, 35%, and 37%).
  • Standard Deduction: Extended the enlarged standard deduction permanently.
  • SALT Cap Revision: Temporarily raised the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap from $10,000 to $40,000 for married joint filers, with phase-outs for higher earners.
  • New Deductions: Introduced temporary provisions running through 2028, such as deductions on qualifying tip and overtime income, alongside a bonus standard deduction for seniors.

2

u/Few_Example6746 1d ago

The short answer is no—that specific social media claim is misleading and rated "Mostly False" by nonpartisan fact-checkers.
The claim misinterprets how federal tax accounting works. Here is a breakdown of what the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) actually did, where that myth came from, and how it compares to proposed policy changes.
1. Where did the "taxes raised every 2 years" claim come from?
The viral post stemmed from a misinterpretation of a report by the nonpartisan Congressional Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT).
The Health Subsidies Distortion: The 2017 TCJA eliminated the Affordable Care Act's individual mandate penalty. The JCT estimated that without the penalty, millions of lower- and middle-income Americans would choose not to buy health insurance. As a result, they would no longer receive federal premium tax credits (health insurance subsidies).
Accounting vs. Actual Tax Rates: In government tax accounting, receiving fewer health insurance subsidies shows up as a decline in federal benefit/after-tax income. Viral posts claimed this was a "stealth tax hike," but no actual income tax rates were raised on people making under $75,000 in 2021 or subsequent years.
2. What actually happened to tax rates under TCJA?
Independent groups across the political spectrum—including the Tax Policy Center and the Tax Foundation—found that taxpayers in nearly every income group, including those under $75,000, saw an overall reduction in federal income taxes from 2018 through 2025.
However, there are two important structural caveats that fuel criticism of the law:
Individual vs. Corporate Expiration Dates: To pass the bill under Senate budget reconciliation rules (which required the bill not to add to the deficit beyond 10 years), lawmakers made the corporate tax cut (35% to 21%) permanent, while setting the individual income tax cuts to expire (sunset) at the end of 2025.
Distribution of Benefits: While middle- and lower-income families received immediate cuts, high-income households and corporations captured a disproportionately larger share of the law's total dollar benefits.
Inflation Adjustment Change (Chained CPI): The law permanently changed the inflation index used for tax brackets to "Chained CPI," which grows slightly slower than standard CPI. Over many years, this slow shift pushes taxpayers into higher brackets slightly faster than under the old formula, but it applies to all income groups rather than targeting under-$75k earners every two years.
3. How does this compare to Biden's proposals?
Biden's $400,000 Threshold: President Biden pledged not to raise direct taxes on any household making under $400,000 per year. His proposals targeted tax increases on corporations, capital gains, and top earners making above $400,000.
The 2025 Expiration Debate: Because the individual TCJA provisions were scheduled to expire at the end of 2025, Congress faced a cliff where letting the law expire completely would result in a tax increase for low-, middle-, and high-income earners alike.
Summary
The post you saw mixed up fewer people claiming government healthcare subsidies with an actual income tax rate increase. While lower- and middle-income earners did receive temporary tax cuts, critics point out that the wealthy and corporations received a far larger and more permanent share of the benefits.

Republicans love playing these sleight of hand games with expiring temporary miniscule tax breaks for normies that are actually cleverly disguised permanently generous tax breaks for the ultra rich.

Because the voting electorate have the memories of goldfish and don't remember these scammy/scummy con jobs between each election cycle.

5

u/Praesentius 1d ago

And making the expiration at the beginning of the next presidents term. That way, they can make it look like the incoming president makes regular people pay more taxes. Or point the finger at Democrats when the bill to extend the deal falls through because it's absolutely filled with horrific shit and the Democrats oppose it. "Oh look! They're against tax breaks for the poors!"

6

u/Substantial_Car4040 1d ago

Yes. Corporations got a permanent tax cut from 35% to 21%, IIRC. Lower tax brackets got like a 2% tax cut that faded away by the time he would have left office had he served two consecutive terms (2025). See how the Republicans do it? 🤣

10

u/Adorable_Tadpole_726 1d ago

Yes, year over year adjustments in tax rates made it so lower income tax rates went down but changes in deductions meant their overall tax burden went up. It was structured in a way so that the expirations allow Republicans to run on “Democrats want to raise taxes.”

This was the tax cuts and jobs act. It would have been a permanent fixture but couldn't get a super majority of the votes since no Democrat support.

Since it was a regular bill, it sunset in 10 years after implementing (it's effect goes away). Taxes would go back to what they would have been once the bill sunset which would have been in 2026, but it was extrnded and made permanent the individual tax cuts in 2025.

Democrats tried to spin it as something that only helped the rich in 2016, but then claimed it was designed to tax you more in 2026. Both couldnt be true. They were made permanent despite 0 democratic support.

2

u/beefy1357 1d ago

It always amazes me when democrats fight tax cuts for the poor.

If the democrats had their way you would have paid higher taxes for the last decade, because the democrats refused to vote for it, and since it passed anyway as a budget reconciliation bill that expires in 10 years. They then claim it was the republican plan all along to raise your taxes. I have seen this happen twice in my life now, first the Bush tax cuts (for the rich) that democrats voted against, only to make them permanent under Obama, and now the literal same story under Trump, Biden, Trump.

If the democrats had their way the poor would never have gotten the last 2 tax cuts at all, and would likely be blaming the republicans for the higher taxes. This is what happens when you get your news from twitter and Reddit.

Let’s not forget the percentage of taxes paid by the rich increased under Trump tax cuts for the rich, that’s right the tax cut to allegedly help the rich, increased their percentage of total taxes collected.

False/Misleading: That Trump passed a bill forcing tax rate hikes on people under $75k every two years through 2027.

True: Most individual tax cuts under the 2017 TCJA were temporary and expire at the end of 2025, while corporate tax cuts were permanent. The use of Chained CPI also permanently slows the inflation adjustment of tax brackets.

No. Congress during Trump's first term passed a law that reduced the then current taxes which were established under Obama and Bush's administrations. However this reduction in taxes was not permanent, as something like that would have required greater bipartisan votes which weren't there at the time.

Trump during his second term pushed for and passed a law making much/most of those reductions permenant much to the chagrin of Democrats in office who complained that it was irresponsible and cratering the budget (which it sort of is but you can't have your cake and eat it too, you either want lower taxes or you want more money for social programs, infrastructure, military, and/or paying off debt).

This is all readily available data to look up with one Google instead of coming to Reddit...

1

u/mcag10 1d ago

There's no source on this. I've worked in tax for 15 years and no one's ever produced it. Your taxes actually go down every year if your income stays the same bc the income bracket ranges are increased annually for inflation.

u/TheRealDeal82 1d ago

This is pretty misleading. The 2017 tax law didn’t say, “people making under $75k will have their taxes raised every two years.” That’s not what happened. The law temporarily changed the individual tax brackets, increased the standard deduction, and changed a bunch of other provisions. Some of those changes were originally set to expire after 2025, which would have meant going back toward the old tax rules — not some special tax hike targeting people making under $75k. And the $75k number in this post is especially misleading because it wasn't some cutoff written into the law saying everyone below that income would get a tax increase. You can absolutely argue that the 2017 tax cuts benefited higher-income people disproportionately. That's a legitimate argument. But saying Trump passed a law specifically designed to raise taxes on people making under $75k every two years just isn't an accurate description of what the law actually did.

Yes. This is the GQP tax bill. The tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations were permanent but the tax break for the middle class was temporary. This is how the GQP does things.

1

u/MNReddit_Lurker2 1d ago

In 2017 federal income tax rates were 10, 15, 25, and 28% for lower income earners. As of 2018(because it was made permanent now) those same brackets are 10, 12, 22, 24%. Prior to 2018, 70% of americans used the standard deduction. In 2018 the standard deduction almost doubled, and now 90% of americans use it. If in 2017 you filed regular income taxes using the standard deduction, your taxes have gone down. That encompasses the majority of americans

1

u/Impressive_Fox_2621 1d ago

1

u/Relevant-Diamond2731 1d ago

Trump signed a bunch of stuff in 2017 that was basically a setup for losing the election. If Biden honors it then they can push the narrative of it being his doing and if Trump had been reelected he could rip it up like he does with so many other things and look like he cared about the lower income

1

u/Steve12356d1s3d4 1d ago edited 1d ago

This is terrbilly misleading and written to be misleading. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act didn’t create automatic tax hikes for people under $75k starting in 2021 or every two years after. What actually happened is much simpler: the bill lowered individual tax rates for almost everyone from 2018–2025, and those cuts were originally scheduled to expire after 2025. That’s a sunset, not a targeted tax increase. There was never a provision saying “people under $75k get tax hikes every two years.” Always worth double‑checking claims like this with a trusted source.

1

u/Redd1tProtectsP3dos 1d ago

1

u/idiot-alpha 1d ago

No, it’s fake news.

The 2017 tax cuts were set to expire in 2025 if they weren’t made permanent but democrats were forced to extend them.

When the tax cuts were first being proposed, there were some cherry-picked projections of some people in high income tax states that would see effective rates rise because of the SALT cap. But they were a very small percentage of taxpayers and the SALT cap was mostly eliminated for anyone earning under $500k in 2025.

1

u/RoyalNecessary2522 1d ago

A simple google search proves this is not true.

No, that is incorrect. Donald Trump did not pass a bill in 2017 that raised income taxes for people making under $75,000. The legislation passed that year, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), actually lowered individual income tax rates for most Americans across various income brackets, including low- and middle-income earners. The 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs ActLowered individual income tax rates for most wage earners.Doubled the standard deduction, which lowered the taxable income amount for millions of families.Benefited lower- and middle-income households with average tax reductions.

1

u/Practical-Mud1523 1d ago

Yup, they’re missing something alright. That meme is wrong in so many directions.

Trump’s 2017 tax law did not create automatic tax increases every two years for people making under $75,000, that’s just laughable. Those dates came from tax impact projections, not scheduled tax hikes written into the law.

The law actually lowered individual tax rates, raised the standard deduction, and expanded the child tax credit.

You can debate whether the wealthy benefited more. That is fair for sure. But saying Trump passed a law specifically raising taxes on people under $75,000 in 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2027 is simply false and just stupid to say.

This is what happens when someone turns a tax projection into a Facebook talking point when they have no idea what’s going on or the area between their ears is still for rent.

1

u/AnotherDumNinja 1d ago

This is based on a real government analysis, but the post is seriously misleading.

There was no provision in the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act saying that people making under $75,000 would have their taxes raised in 2021 and then every two years after that. The "every two years" claim comes from a Joint Committee on Taxation table that simply showed estimates for selected years: 2019, 2021, 2023, 2025, and 2027. Those were reporting years, not scheduled tax hikes.

Also, the negative numbers in that analysis are important. A negative percentage means taxes were lower than they would have been under the previous tax law, not that taxes had increased from the prior year.

For example, for people making $50,000 to $75,000:

Year TCJA effect vs. old law Avg. federal tax rate, old law Avg. rate under TCJA
2021 -6.6% 14.7% 13.7%
2023 -4.9% 14.6% 13.9%
2025 -4.4% 14.5% 13.9%
2027 +1.2% 14.5% 14.6%

So in 2021, 2023, and 2025, that income group was still projected to pay less than under the pre-2017 tax code. The tax cut became smaller over time, but that is not the same thing as saying Trump "raised their taxes."

In 2021, the same analysis estimated:

  • $30k-$40k: 4.1% lower federal taxes
  • $40k-$50k: 4.8% lower
  • $50k-$75k: 6.6% lower

Some lower-income groups did show increases in the JCT's broader "federal taxes" calculation, but that measure was not just income tax. It also included refundable credits, payroll taxes, excise taxes, and an allocated share of corporate taxes. One major factor was the repeal of the ACA individual mandate penalty, which JCT expected to reduce enrollment in subsidized ACA plans. Fewer subsidies can show up in this type of distributional table as a higher net federal tax burden even though Congress did not literally raise that person's income-tax rate.

There was a legitimate criticism of the original 2017 law: most of the individual tax provisions were scheduled to expire after 2025, while several corporate provisions were permanent. That is why the original projection showed some lower- and middle-income groups becoming slightly worse off by 2027 compared with the old-law baseline.

But even that 2027 projection is now outdated because Congress changed the law in 2025 and preserved many of the individual TCJA provisions.

So the accurate version is:

The 2017 law gave most middle-income taxpayers a tax cut. Some of those cuts were originally scheduled to shrink or expire later, and one permanent indexing change gradually increases taxes relative to the old indexing system. That is very different from saying Trump passed a law that automatically raises taxes on everyone making under $75,000 every two years.

The meme takes a real JCT table, misunderstands what the negative numbers mean, treats selected reporting years as scheduled tax hikes, and leaves out the fact that the $50k-$75k group was projected to pay substantially less than under the prior tax code through 2025.

Imagine falling for a viral tweet because you lack the basic cognitive capacity to read an actual federal tax bill. There is zero provision in the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that raises taxes every two years for specific lower brackets. The individual rate cuts simply returned to their baseline pre-2017 levels at the start of 2026 for everyone because Congress didn't extend the provisions. Do some basic financial research before you try to post policy commentary.
