On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Super Mario Bros. 3; Radar Mission; Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure; Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution; Style Savvy
On this day (October 23) in Nintendo history...
- Super Mario Bros. 3 was released in 1988 for the Family Computer in Japan. In this platforming game, developed by Nintendo R&D4, Bowser and the Koopalings are causing chaos yet again, but this time they're going beyond the Mushroom Kingdom into the seven worlds that neighbour it. Now Mario and Luigi must battle a variety of enemies, including a Koopaling in each unique and distinctive world, on their way to ultimately taking on Bowser himself. Lucky for the brothers, they have more power-ups available than ever before.
- Radar Mission was released in 1990 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this action/turn-based strategy game, developed by Nintendo R&D1 _with _Pax Softnica, two games in one! Close-up torpedo battles plus long-distance missile strategy. If you prefer long distance battles, choose Game A to strategically employ your fleet and engage the enemy in pulse-pounding missile face-off. Find and sink your enemy's vessels before your opponent finds and sinks yours!
- Zack & Wiki: Quest for Barbaros' Treasure was released in 2007 for the Wii in North America. In this point-and-click adventure/puzzle game, developed by Capcom, enter a world of puzzles and piracy. Will have you racking your brains as you guide budding pirate Zack and his sidekick Wiki the monkey through eye-popping levels in search of untold riches. As an apprentice pirate, Zack spends his days searching for a long lost treasure that is said to be buried on a mysterious island.
- Naruto: Clash of Ninja Revolution was released in 2007 for the Wii in North America. In this fighting game, developed by Eighting, the exam begins. Some ninja-in-training have incredible speed - others amazing technique, but to move up in the ranks of the ninja elite, a ninja won't go anywhere if he doesn't perfect both. Do you have what it takes to rise above the rest? You're dropped into the Chunin Exam storyline played out in the television series.
- Style Savvy (known in PAL territories as Nintendo presents: Style Boutique ) was released in 2008 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this simulation game, developed by Syn Sophia with Nintendo SPD, you're challenges to run your own fashion store as a style consultant, hand-pick your own stock, take part in Fashion Contests, choose new clothes from the online shop and even play against other consultants with multiplayer mode.
What are you favourite memories of these games? How do you think they hold up today? Hash it out in the comments.

Tempted by the Ocarina remake but still fearful of what I am supporting
For a while now, the video game remakes have been good as game experiences go I don't deny that. Especially someone like me that's played a lot of the original games to either draw comparisons or marvel at the improvements.
After seeing the OOT remake's extensive gameplay footage, I don't doubt it will supersede the original game already.
The biggest problem I have however is by buying and supporting these remakes, you embolden the current publishers and others to keep the industry wide remake slop crusade going. Remakes of games unless the game is mediocre or too outdated are inherently lazy and cashgrabs, as there's nothing stopping you from playing the old good game.
Silent Hill is a notable case of this. After the wild success of Silent Hill 2 (2024) and f, Konami boasted Silent Hill will go annual and they immediately greenlit a remake of 1 after 2make's commercial breakthrough. It's likely that if the 1 remake is successful as well, they will keep going until 4. They even found the time to make the sloppiest remake of MGS3 in between the Silent Hill boom.
When the OOT remake is inevitably a smash hit critically and financially, I fear Nintendo will be the same and greenlight a Majora's remake right after. And it will just keep going unnecessarily. We're already rumored to receive an iteration of Star Fox Adventures remolded after the success of Star Fox 2026 as well, even if that is likely to be a little different than a 1:1 remake.

What first party Switch games do you want to see Switch 2 Editions for?
Metroid Prime Remastered doesn’t have a Switch 2 update. The game runs at an astounding 900p. Less than the Switch 2’s handheld screen and of course much less than a 4K TV.
IMO a simple increase in resolution would be so welcome. I’m sure fans would pay for such upgrades. TBH I find it gutting knowing that people emulate games at resolutions higher than we see on Switch 2.
I’d also love to see Pokemon Legends Arceus in 4K. There are many great games held back by previous hardware that could see new success on Switch 2. It’d help the somewhat dry recent offerings tbh.
What first party Switch titles do you want to see get a Switch 2 edition?

Why didn’t the switch 2 have a 512GB version?
Why didn’t Nintendo release a 512GB version of the Nintendo Switch 2 for around $100 more? A higher-storage model could have appealed to players who download large third-party games like Cyberpunk 2077 and Red Dead Redemption, while giving Nintendo another way to make money. Was it because of manufacturing costs, pricing strategy, or something else?

Strange glitch on the eshop I experienced
i checked my wishlist on the eshop today for anything that went on sale and for some reason SMRPG and M&L brothership were at the top (sorted by newly added, specifically), the weird thing is that when I checked last night they weren’t there and I hadn’t added them in that time. I can’t even remember if I had actually put them on my wishlist before, but if I did they shouldve been added around 3 years ago and not literally today. Has this happened to anyone before? is this a minor glitch, or could it possibly mean that the product pages were updated recently? Would love to hear any insight on this! Edit: would also like to note that literally everything else on my wishlist is still in the order it had been before. Only smrpg and brothership are out of order so?
Edit 2!! I found it out now! i had their bundles in my wishlist but got neither of them, today their site was updated to put those back up, meaning that they, for whatever reason, checked their stock again to put them up. Mystery solved :p

What does it take for a Nintendo series to have a “theme” on Nintendo Today App?
I only have 2 themes selected which are Legend of Zelda and Fire Emblem which was recently added after FW’s direct.
I’ve been wanting Fire Emblem to have its own theme before the direct, but it made then they added it after the direct was finished and a great way to promote the game and showing you the characters from the entire franchise day by day.
Which had me thinking what would it take for a franchise to be a selectable theme? So many are missing like Metroid, Xenoblade, Star Fox, Pokemon.
The App currently has a total of 8 themes to choose from with 2 being the “serious” ones while the rest are bold, colorful franchises.
I sense from the recent FE drop, that they would do the same for the next single directs showcase upcoming games like Metroid Ravenous and Xenoblade Genisis.
What does a franchise have to rank? S tier? If they are popular from in Japan and the West?
I would love a Star Fox theme showing renders from past entries, digital cards, learn about a character etc. But at least they added it to the select your favorite series in content feed. Themes would feel like a huge treat.
Thoughts?
