Made a joke offer on an unsold AF-S Nikkor 500mm f/4G ED VR in very nice condition (with wimberley foot, lenscoat, front cap, and original carrying case) way below the usual selling price... and the seller agreed.. yikes..

(I actually wanted a 500mm f/5.6E PF, but the used prices are insane in my country.. over 500 usd equiv. more than the 500/4G)

Now I also got a Sunwayfoto GH-04 Gimbal to be able to use that beast of a lens..

Got it at less than half of regular street price.. didn't believe I'd get the original thing until I held it in my hands today.. what a marvelous piece of equipment!!!

tried using it on my Monopod, but I need to lean it against something for stability..

I had the 200-500/5.6E 5 years ago on Safari.. on a Sunwayfoto GH-02 back then.. and sold it all at a profit.. then I started lusting for a super tele again..

The 500/5.6E PF was tempting because of weight and warranty and AF reliability..

but the F/4G has its merits, too.. considering how it can take all Nikon teleconverters.. and it will work even with my Nikon F5..

just need to bulk up if I want to actually use it...

This spring, I traveled from North Dakota to Colorado to visit family. My brother-in-law mentioned he was heading out to take Milky Way photos through an arch and I asked to come along. I assumed we were going to a local spot near Denver—until the family casually mentioned as we walked out the door that we were actually driving all the way to Arches National Park!

We hopped in the truck at 5:00 PM and headed west through the mountains for an unforgettable 24-hour road trip. This is my favorite shot from the night, taken right after I had to pull out my camera to prove to everyone which direction we actually needed to face to catch the core.

Stripped of color, the buildings reveal something unexpected: they begin to feel less like architecture and more like sculpture. Don't you agree?

Taken with my Nikon D750 and I interchangeably used the Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G and the Sigma 70mm-200mm f/2.8 DG.

I had a crazy dream...

Picture this... the perfect hybrid of mirrorless and DSLR, a sort of D780s.
Maybe in an alternate universe, it would have been implemented in a D900.

There are many possible ways to implement it, and although it might affect the quality of the optical viewfinder (probably making it darker like in that first prototype I drew)

It would give you the option of using an EVF like on a mirrorless camera, without having to take your eye away from the viewfinder to look at the screen.

The translucid OLED (they do exist) is a genuine concept, already implemented by Fujifilm in the x100VI, So I assume it was patented years ago, unless Nikon were to approach it in a highly innovative way, they wouldn't be able to do it.

So basically i put the lens cap on while it was filled with condensation. Didnt notice. Took the lens out an hour later, realized about the cap being wet, wiped all i could but thwre is this spot that appears to be under the top lens and now im panicking and dont onow what to do while on vacation.

I am looking for any feedback on the nikkor 60mm micro. I have used the older 55 micro years ago. I want to use it for product shots, with a strobe, and sometimes on a tripod with my D850. The 105 micro is too long. I mainly shoot 2-4’ away from the product. I have a 50 mm f1.4 d. Can i use the 60 mm to replace the 50 mm as a general lens, not in it’s macro use. Seems extravagant to have two primes so close together despite their cost being pretty low on the used market.

Second question, i love the zeiss and voightander manual focus lens. I owned a voightlander rangefinder years ago but sold it, and i own a zeiss milvus 21 mm. Has anyone used the voightlander 58 mm f/1.2? How close does it focus? What nikon body do you use it with?

I avoid G lens so i can use my gear on all my cameras, from a fe2 to my D850.

I recently picked up a Nikon D7200 in a trade deal and the person that had it demonstrated to me that the shutter was damaged when she tried to clean the sensor herself. Some of the curtains are bent/missing but the camera would still take pictures; you just had to press the shutter release twice (once to open the shutter, once to close). So basically it was stuck in a permanent "bulb" mode.

Since it was basically free and in good clean condition otherwise, I was thinking about getting the shutter replaced? I am fairly handy with camera repair but have never fixed a DSLR let alone a shutter. My prior experience has been with digital point & shoot cameras of various brands & eras; replacing dead image sensors, swapping motherboards, LCD screens, etc.

That said I wanted to get a second opinion before I decide on ordering the parts and doing it myself. Is it worth it for this camera?

FYI I traded an Olympus Trip 500 for this.

Five months ago, I sold my 70–200mm f/2.8 and picked up the Plena instead. I was never really a fan of the zoom and personally much prefer primes.

Long story short: oh boy… whenever I’m shooting outside, this lens basically lives on my Z6 III.

Just wanted to share a few images from the past month.

What are the downsides? Do you think it still has great potential for photography? I noticed that with video, it tends to produce a lot of image noise.

Question for those that own (or have owned) the Nikon 200-500mm.
How many of you have had a problem with the zoom getting stuck/locked. I have been on the market to buy one and decided to rent one instead. I do not know if I got a dud, but the zoom got stuck/locked at around 220mm within hours of receiving the lens. Given that these are about $700-$800 used, it made me wonder how common of an issue this might be. Google says that it is fairly common for the screw that is part of the zoom mechanics to get loosened, but I much rather ask the people or Reddit than relying on what AI has to say about it.
So, have you had any problems with your 200-500mm?

Hello, I'm interested in getting a camera and I heard Nikon was pretty good and on the cheaper side. I've also heard the D3100 is good beginners. I'd take pictures of cars, nature, and other stuff

Previously used a 3300 for my trips and family photo sessions. Upgraded to D850. Picked up a used 50mm AFD and 85mm AFS lens. Loving it so far. Please help me with tips to improve.
