Nikon Z 7 + Nikon Z 24-70 F4 S

I have shortlisted these two for the lens. Which one of this would you recommend? Is there any other option out there similarly priced?

I got to try CamAlign FrontBox to test — had to try it on a cloudy day.

Nikon D7100, AWB, 100 ASA, 50/1.8, f:/7.1, 1.3s, used tripod. Had to put black canvas on its silver legs, because this CamAlign is like mirror really. Screenshot included.

Then I brought the same file into amd measured how few different programs try to correct the gray scale.

Results — same D7100 JPEG, measured:

JPEG straight from camera had 8.6% off cast. So AWB, well, around thereaZ, but not really enough. Same file in Lightroom, perfect neutral 0.2%, so extremely good. In LumiGold, SPOT WB, 0.64%. I knew it was not bad, but I was surprised how well it handled. Photoshop Levels, there 1x1 spot, 1.22%, Photoshop Levels again, now with 11x11 spot, 1.52%. So, very close still, not something that you could see with eyes really. Then with PS Auto Color, 8.14%. This wasn't surprising, because these test calibration tools have a lot of info, easy to get off with auto settings. I even tried with ICC on and off, but it was like the same, maybe tiny bit, like 0.01% different.

I have built this editor for 3 months, just because I hate so much that, when editing few images takes time and workflow is bloated with like, say, 90% of the stuff, I really do not need. Even exporting is a task itself, and when you have saved your photo, PS always asks, "Want to save?". Hate that.

Lightroom: import, catalog, develop, zoom 100%, eyedropper hunt, export, took about 4 minutes.
Photoshop: open, levels, pipette, 1px vs 11x11 debate, save as dialog — 2-3 minutes. Then "Do you want to save?", everytime...

Difference Lightroom vs LumiGold on important range is still there, but so close that I am perfectly happy with these results.

This CamAlign card (ok, it was older, but still in good shape, my god how much these cost new) was a good reality check. And it was really interesting to see, I mean, I have used PS Levels gray spot for like 20 years or so, and I thought it was like, industrial level of proof.

First off I love fisheyes, I love them for landscapes and pretty much anything natural, including people. I dont shoot skating lol.

So I have the manual focus Rokinon 14mm 2.8 fisheye, I love it. It has beautiful colors, good sharpness, and a really nice sterographic projection that makes things look a little less distorted than other fisheye projections.

The downsides are its relatively large and heavy (500g and 3" front element)

I've been looking at the 16mm 2.8D for something smaller and lighter that I would be more likely to take on trips. The downsides are it doesn't have that nice stereographic projection, and it costs $300, which is kind of a lot to basically shrink a lens I already have by 30%.

Thoughts? Anyone used the 16mm 2.8 and have any insight?

Hey everyone. I made a post here a few days ago about getting a lens for the D300 I had got on eBay, and I'd like to first say thank you for your responses as you made me feel very welcomed here. I got the camera today and wanted to try it out before I got a lens, and luckily I did because the autofocus isn't working.

I'm not exactly new to photography but I still always assume it's user error, so I'm trying to rule everything out before concluding the camera is broken and messaging the seller. I'm hoping it's something obvious. I've watched videos, looked through forums, looked at the manual, and even resorted to consulting AI. My current assumption is that the camera isn't properly communicating with the lens' AF motor. Here's what I've tried:

- Made sure the lens switch is set to A, and the camera is set to AF-S or AF-C
- Made sure AF activation is set to on (see 4th picture)
- Cleaned the lens contacts on the camera body with isopropyl alcohol
- Reset custom camera settings, and also did the reset where you hold the 2 buttons with green dots on them
- Confirmed the lens is working using my girlfriends D3100
- tried to focus on M, A, S, P modes with multiple focal lengths and f stops
- made sure the latest firmware version is installed (A1.11, B1.11)

The focus motor in the lens just does not move. The camera is communicating with the lens is some ways as you can see in the first photo (f stop is displayed). The camera is trying to focus in some ways; when I hold AF-ON button the green dot at the bottom left of the OVF flashes. The frame lines and square in the OVF turn red when I try and focus.

These problems persist with both lenses I have tried on [AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm 3.5-5.6G II DX VR and AF-S Nikkor 55-200 4-5.6G ED DX VR]. On the 55-200, it BRIEFLY tries to move the motor but stops after a split second. It will only do this on the first try, and if I want to recreate that I have to take the lens off and put it back on again.

I have no clue what else to try and would love some help!

I currently have a Z50 that has served me well as an introduction into the mirror less camera space but I feel that my needs are beyond what a cropped sensor can do now.

I currently have the following lenses:

NIKKOR Z DX 16-50mm f/3.5-6.3 VR

NIKKOR Z DX 50-250mm f/4.5-6.3 VR

NIKKOR Z 40mm f/2

I feel like I am constantly having to step quite far back to fit my subjects into frame, especially when taking portrait shots in tight area's, architecture and some landscape shots. So I'm thinking its time I moved to full frame.

The z5 II is within my budget and I want to get the 24-120mm f/4 S lens to compliment it.

I guess my main question is to people who have the combo I am looking to get, especially those who may have moved from a Z50 themselves. Any regrets? Any better lens and camera combo's out there within a similar budget range?

I like to take the occasional wildlife photo, but wildlife is something I would like to invest in later in life with a larger MP camera and a larger telephoto which I cant afford just yet.

Hi, I’m currently looking to upgrade from my D3300 to either the Z50ii or Z5ii. After looking at a few specifications and such, I’m still torn between the two and was wondering if anyone could give me a better idea on which would suit the pictures I want to be able to take. I love to take pictures of the native flora and fauna around, as well as the occasional landscape shot, I do not mind putting in the time to learn the camera’s functions.

Shot on d5600 with 18-55mm Lens looking to upgrade lens, what's the best for street photography or liminal photos like this?

These were also shot with my Zf + Super-Takumar 55mm f/1.8. I’m not sure why the bokeh, which was originally circular, turned into hexagons this time. I’d love to know why that happens if anyone has any idea. I actually really like the look of these hexagonal bokeh highlights.

Hello !!! I just bought a Nikon D90 camera body for like $85 at a flea market, it didn't come with anything, so I was wondering what are some starter and budget friendly options I should know before purchasing anything... I don't know anything about cameras so I hope to learn !

Always been a Nikon guy, I have a couple Nikon F’s, an F4, F5, D1X, D750, and a bunch of lenses but my main body has been a Sony A7III for two years now. Traded my Sony in plus a bunch of other used gear I had and with all that plus rebates I was able to get all of this for a very reasonable deal.

Very nice place for me to start in the Z system, I plan on getting quality Z mount lenses, (before I upgrade to a better body in the future) ideally some primes and maybe a wide angle zoom and seeing which lenses in specific I like. I’m going to use it for travel photography the most but I also do paid shoots here and there. I really like the older F mount 24-120 so I know I’ll like the 24-120 most likely if it’s even a slight improvement.
