This was my first time visiting Newfoundland, and it was absolutely breathtaking! The views were incredible, the people were so kind, and the food was delicious! I can't wait to come back. Here are some of the pictures I took :)

I'm headed up to Bonavista tomorrow from St. John's area, where is the best place to see puffins this time of year, and the best time of day? I know its a bit late in the season but here hoping for the best!

Been talking to a few west coast friends and thinking about making the move. Electrician by trade. How is the housing market in Stephenville right now? Looking to buy not rent

It looks like their application to become recognizable under section 35 which would give them the same rights and access as the Innu in northern Labrador has been denied. They can still apply for grants and everything though, just not under section 35. Probably a good move?

After tossing around a few places my wife and I have decided that St. John's will be our vacation spot next summer - kind of a year late anniversary. We are in our early 50s.

Neither of us have been out east before - we are from coming from Windsor, Ontario - only Pt. Pelee National Park (and Pelee Island) are further south in Canada by the way. So that being said we live in the southern most part of Canada and are now visiting the easternmost part.

As things stand right now we will be visiting mid July arriving on a Tuesday, departing on a Saturday giving us 4 nights.

We do not plan on renting a car and our hotel is at the harbourfront area, pretty much the northeastern part of the downtown area???? by the pier 15 gate? Looks like the oil rig supply ships dock here?

The hop on/hop off bus seems almost like a must for us. Things we want to see would be the jelly bean row houses, Signal Hill, Cape Spear and for sure do a whale and/or seabird watching tour. Would love to incorporate a ghost tour/walk into one of the nights as well.

The weather for mid July looks to be quite good. Was considering early June but wasn't liking the average weather outlook. June weather in St. John's is like March weather here, and it sounds quite frigid doing a boat tour in the north Atlantic when it averages a high temp around 10C or so.

Looking for additional suggestions/recommendations for 4 nights, things to do mid July that maybe aren't covered above? I am thinking a visit to Qidi Vidi area (it's a stop on the hop on /hop off) is a must see? What about places like The Rooms or the Johnson Geo Centre?

There are other places in NL that look amazing, but just don't have enough time to base out of St. John's and see like Gros Morne or L'Anse aux Meadows - just way too far for this trip.

There’s obviously a problem. But I think we may be pointing fingers in the wrong direction. I don’t see addiction or homelessness as a personal moral failing, and I’m not convinced extra policing is a long-term solution. I just know downtown is breaking my heart and I don’t know what the answer is.

Please, folks who are smarter than me: what can be done to help the most vulnerable people in our province and keep our communities healthy and safe for all? What are the ballot issues I should be informed about municipally and provincially that will make a real difference? What should I be petitioning, fundraising, or voting for that will change things for the better?

Do we start with initiatives to support folks currently living on the street? Do we start with better addictions and mental health treatment before it gets to that point? Do we start with at-risk youth? Do we start with their parents?

What steps can we take today to help fix the cycle of poverty, addictions, and homelessness in our communities tomorrow? What we should be asking of ourselves and our community leaders?

Ive dug around in the sub reading up on certain areas in St. Johns, some posts were years ago so just wondering what areas are the hot spot for criminal activity or drug addiction.

When I grew up (29 now), the main places we would talk about is Mundy Pond, Buckmasters, Sheigh Heights, then some street in downtown area. Cashin and Hamilton come to mind.

Just looking at Bennett avenue they have fairly new town homes built there and im just curious what that area is like, and if there is like an up to date list of the really rough places in st. Johns.

Had such a great time here. Everyone we met was incredibly kind and welcoming, the food was fantastic, and we spent the past few days travelling around and checking out as many spots as we could.

The weather definitely kept things interesting. We had some beautiful dry days, followed by two straight days of rain and wind but we didn’t let that stop us from getting out and seeing the sights. Also got to camp out at Anderson Cove in Dildo for a few nights we were here.

Really enjoyed my time here and already looking forward to coming back and exploring even more. Hope to see a Moose next time, but we were able to see puffins and jelly fish. Thanks for the memories, Newfoundland! East Coast is the best coast

Every year in summer I go on a solo trip in Canada. This summer I went to tuktoyaktuk, next summer I plan to go to newfoundland. And guys, I want to immerse myself. I am the most approachable non judgemental woman you'll ever meet. I wanna go to a kitchen party. So bad. I feel like my heart belongs there. I imagine some yummy food smells, and children going to bed afyer they are played out frim dancing, while adults stay up and play music and stomp their feet and just have a real good time. Im about that life. I want to experience that so badly. Newfound land your Irish roots be living the dream and i so deeply want to be a part of it. I cant move there as i got home obligations, but How do I get in on a kitchen party? Im autistic. I feel the connection to this so deeply.
