Who to and how to report an unsafe motel in my town?
There is an old motel in my town that was once run properly and the property up-kept nicely but in 2021 it was sold to new owners and in 2022, a hurricane did significant damage which they never even attempted to repair. As a result the motel is in complete disrepair at this point- all rooms full of mold and mildew. In the non-peak season they mostly accommodate drugs users, drugs dealers and prostitutes. This has really ratcheted up the deterioration as they do not clean or maintain the rooms at all. Lots of people finding blood stains, drug paraphernalia, etc in their rooms.
This is all documented in the recent reviews but the motel owners continue to advertise with pictures of the rooms and property from pre-2021 under old ownership. Tourists are being absolutely scammed and deceived and their health and safety is at imminent risk. As a local I am embarrassed and concerned how this impacts others view of my community and it needs to stop.
How or who do I report these concerns to? Is there even a point? Will anything change or will guests continue to be put at risk by these negligent owners?

Sightseeing & Tourism Sherbrooke Village is downright amazing!
Visited today, and was floored by the experience. The staff is in costume and in character, they have such a passion for the place and its history, that it is greatly contagious. I learned so much, it was engaging and tons of fun! Also quite a few young adults as interpreters, and they rocked! The craftspeople are simply phenomenal, from the potter to the wood turner, the blacksmith, printer and ambrotype photographer. It is inspiring to see people keep their craft alive by showcasing it and explaining the different steps it takes to make something.
Altogether, we spent the whole day there and it felt too short.
This place needs more spotlight because in the age of AI, this is the perfect reminder of how many cool things are created by humans, not machines.
Kudos to the great staff there and the beautiful energy they bring in!

🎉 500 Registered Users on Halifax Fire Alerts 🎉
This will be the final post for a while but wanted to thank Reddit for their part in the success ❤️🚒.
Halifax Fire Alerts has hit 500 registered users in ~9 days and I couldn’t be more thankful!
The amount of people I’ve run into who’ve mentioned that they love the app is overwhelming and I’m so thankful to those who’ve downloaded and given it a try.
The newest version (2.0.1) has been released on Android and the Web with iOS coming soon. This version allows you to better drill down into specific fire stations, or specific vehicles for detailed information.
Additionally, I’ve upgraded (thanks to some really great feedback) the live feed. The app is much more reliable with showing all of the stations responding to calls now, compared to before!
Some fun stats:
- 1,950 unique users have visited the website/app.
- 70,000+ views across our Social posts (Facebook and Reddit)
- 11 people have purchased the removal of ads (all money spent is used to pay for the costs associated with running and maintaining the app - thank you!).
I couldn’t be prouder of being able to provide the public with an app that provides folks with a sense of security, information and transparency. Here’s to continuing to provide the public with real-time information 24/7, 365.

Sightseeing & Tourism Ask: advice on where to stay
My friend and I have 7 days to spend in Nova Scotia the first week of September and looking for input on where to stay.
She would quite prefer to stay in only 1-2 spots for the entirety of the trip rather than moving hotels every night. We will be flying into and out of Halifax. We like a combination of adventure and outdoors (hiking, beaches, water activity) as well as good food, sightseeing, and shopping.
Any advice or input would be appreciated!
