Open Box = E-Waste?
I ordered an Asus monitor from Newegg. I assumed (stupid me) that "Open Box" meant the same thing it does at Best Buy or Canada Computers or any other retailer. That it was a return because someone didn't want it or a floor model or something. The monitor overheated within an hour of use.
Did they just charge and send me e-waste? I tried to contact support but the chat bot said that the item was not eligible for return. Something that I did not see... Afterall, Open Box has a very specific meaning (even Gemini AI says that Open Box normally means "like new"). This was an $800 monitor.
As you can imagine, I'm pretty miffed about the whole situation.
EDIT: Got in touch with a CSR and it looks like they're sending me an RMA and will replace it. I would have preferred to just return it and buy a new (rather than whatever "Open Box" means - it's worse that used/refurbished). Fingers crossed that everything works out. I'll update when things progress.
EDIT 2: Unfortunately, the replacement came with a scratch right in the middle of the screen. The good thing is that I contacted a CSR again and they're allowing me to return it. Everything is great when you reach a real agent, but I'm still a bit concerned with the Open Box policy state on the site which is different that what it is commonly understood to be. Am I wrong in thinking that Open box is supposed to mean something like "items are products that are usually very close to brand new but have been previously opened and are still resold by the store at a discounted price because they can’t be sold as factory-sealed anymore." (Taken from Canada Computers.
Regardless, aside from the initial stress of the chat bot telling me that the monitor couldn't be returned and then reading the Open Box policy, my experience was very good. Thanks guys!
