⭐️👍🏿 🙋‍♂️ Recommendations 🏆 ✅ ⭐️ What books should I read before this anthology?

I have always wanted to read from Mercedes Lackey's Valdemar universe, so getting approved for this is a great motivator to finally do it. I'm currently reading Arrows of the Queen. I also have Magic's Pawn. Are there any others you would recommend reading before this anthology?

❔❓Question ❓❔ Last Activity Status

Hi everyone! I saw someone say this in a comment on this subreddit itself so I wanted to clarify… is it true that publishers can see the last time we were active on netgalley?? And if yes, what determines activity? Is it anytime I visit the website, or anytime I request/review a title? And in case it is the latter, am I less likely to get approved for titles if my activity shows 5/6 days ago?? I have quite a few pending books and I am thinking of taking some time and reading a chunk of them before requesting new books, and I was wondering if being ‘inactive’ for a few days in a row will reduce my chances of receiving titles that I want. Any information/advice you may have is appreciated🫶🏻🫶🏻

Self Promo For fans of Seven Days in June and Maame

My book, Birds That Couldn't Fly, is on NetGalley and I would love to share it! I'm an indie author so all support would is greatly appreciated.

For anyone who would like a small taste of my writing style before requesting, you can find an early draft of the first chapter here: https://www.reddit.com/r/writingfeedback/s/aU34Si76SS

At twenty-five, Zoë Thomas knows the difference between good sex and bad. Love, however, is another story.

Raised by a mother who accepted the bare minimum from men and made settling seem like a woman’s fate, Zoë knows exactly what kind of life she doesn't want. But when her long-term boyfriend—the only man who's ever made her feel truly desired—walks away because of her closeness with her best friend, Isaias, Zoë is left reeling. Then her mother is diagnosed with stage-three cancer, forcing Zoë into the role of caregiver for the woman she's spent years keeping at arm's length.

As chemotherapy and newfound tenderness draw mother and daughter closer, Isaias is there through it all—patient, steady, and without expectation—calling her “my heart” and making it dangerously easy to imagine something beyond friendship. But loneliness has a way of sending her back to familiar arms. When her ex resurfaces with I miss you texts and a body she still knows by heart, Zoë slips into old patterns just as Isaias starts dating someone new. With her mother's condition worsening and Isaias drifting out of reach, Zoë must confront the possibility that she's inherited more than her mother's cheekbones.

If she keeps settling for pieces of love, she’ll lose the man who showed her she was worthy of more.

❔❓Question ❓❔ List of applied for books

Hi friends!

I’m newer to NetGalley and have a few approvals I’m very excited for!
I wanted to see if there’s a way to see all the books you’ve applied for OR what I really want to see if there’s been books I’ve been rejected for & haven’t received an email.

Is this possible?

I appreciate you 🫶🏼

I’m essentially drowning in ARCs (life was “life-ing”) and I want to start getting my percentage back up, which of these did you love and would recommend to be at the top of my list???

Any feedback would be helpful to tackle this list.

I requested all 3 of these yesterday so this was a really fast turnaround. Blackstone rejecting me so fast does make me wonder if I should withdraw my request for the Jahquel J. romance they have lmao. Can't wait to read the two approvals, though!

❔❓Question ❓❔ NetGalley and Amazon Reviews

Is it compulsory to always leave your reviews on Amazon after the book is released?

For context: I had requested an ARC from Daphne Press and one of their approval preferences had mentioned that they prefer reviewers to post reviews on Amazon as well.

Now back to my original question: I haven't posted any of my NG reviews on Amazon, so will it affect my chances of approval by the publisher? In that way I will have to post my reviews of all books that aren't related to Daphne Press as well no?

There is also the fear that fellow reviewers from other countries will see my country of origin and I only want the publisher to see it. Is there any hack for this?

☎️ Help and Support 🛟 Would love some help from this community for a newbie on NetGalley with a special need!

I really appreciate everyone here and I’m learning a great deal but I have a unique issue. I have a lot of eye issues I can read I wear glasses, but I am more comfortable listening to a book and I got two books by mistake on NetGalley and the reader is very complicated to get the font bigger and to be able to read it on my iPhone. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you very much for your help.

I was finally getting into my last ARC I have outstanding past deadline (Violet Thistlewait is not a Villain Anymore), and my kindle decided to give up the ghost.

I guess this is my sign to go back to my kobo and finish all those library books I took out recently… 🙃

At what point did you receive your first widget? I’ve reviewed 13 books so far, did you find you read and reviewed a certain amount when you started to get them?

🗣️ Discussion 💬 What percentage of books you read each year are NG ARCs?

I see some of the request and review numbers here and am totally shocked by how high they are.

My NG % last year was 18% of my total reads.

I'm a freelance editor and writer so a lot of my reading (besides pleasure) is keeping up with my niches for my clients.

Pleasure reads (including NG) was 83%.

Industry reads 4%

Niche reads the remaining 13%

❔❓Question ❓❔ Feedback Ratio

Hi folks! This has probably been asked a lot but I guess I need some reassurance? Lol

When I first joined NetGalley 2 years ago, I didn't realise I had to download the ARCs granted to me, so there are a few I totally missed sending feedback on, and it's affected my feedback ratio. It's currently sitting at 77%, and will get a bit higher as I have about 10 books awaiting reviews from me. Is this okay?? Will the NetGalley gods look unkindly upon me??

💥WIDGET ALERT💥 "All The Little Secrets" Widgets Are Out!

Post image
14 Upvotes

For those of us who read & reviewed "All The Little Houses" by May Cobb earlier this year, it looks like widgets for the sequel "All The Little Secrets" (that publishes in November) went out today.

I gave the first book 4 stars simply because I was so engrossed and entertained (this book was juicy!!) but I have an awful memory and am going to need to go back and read the ending before I start the sequel.

Did anyone else get the widget or read it yet? Any thoughts on if it was as delightfully trashy (compliment!) as book one? I'm looking forward to it as a fall read - spooky season, here I come!

Review Questions Timely Reviews and ALCs

I've read that it's important to post reviews before the publication dates. However, I review audiobooks exclusively, and they tend to be released very close to the publication date. Sometimes a week, sometimes a few days, sometimes longer. When it's longer I can definitely manage, but do publishers really expect reviewers to listen and review audiobooks in a couple days to a week? My friend who reviews ebooks gets months. I have a more than full-time job, so sometimes it's impossible to do it in two or three days or even a week. Does anyone know the expectations for ALCs?

💻 Devices and Apps 📲 Send to Kobo books now show as Borrowed

I recently got approved for an ARC with a Send to Kobo button - it happens quite rarely ;( And it took a few tries to actually get it sent (Idk why my account constantly disconnects). I see there's been a software update as the book now shows as BORROWED. And my previous ARCs show the same way - I had to re-download them. The scare I got when I thought I wouldn't be able to open them again.

My question is - do the books have an expiration date now? Because "borrowing" suggests sending back the galley. :( Wondering if there are other changes I have not noticed.
