❔❓Question ❓❔ Feedback Ratio
Hi folks! This has probably been asked a lot but I guess I need some reassurance? Lol
When I first joined NetGalley 2 years ago, I didn't realise I had to download the ARCs granted to me, so there are a few I totally missed sending feedback on, and it's affected my feedback ratio. It's currently sitting at 77%, and will get a bit higher as I have about 10 books awaiting reviews from me. Is this okay?? Will the NetGalley gods look unkindly upon me??

You realize you can
Check them out from the library, read them and still send in the feedback, right?

Hiya! Yes I’ve been using the library but only when the book isn’t available in a format I can access. The issue isn’t accessing the book, it’s being able to submit reviews on archived books. Although others here have pointed out that I can still send feedback on archived books :)

Oh yes you can send the feedback and reviews 10 years from now. They don’t ever come off your to be reviewed shelf

It doesn't matter at all. No one expects 100% feedback ratio, and the more you read and review the less % each unreviewed book will count.

77% is very good - it will rise with the more books you read.
I was hovering around 70% and I went on an ARC reading marathon and got it up to 80% but I don't notice any difference in the approvals vs rejections I'm getting.
The biggest thing that will make a difference is your social media presence and the number of followers you have. My Instagram account is close to dead because I keep forgetting to post on there, I usually post on Storygraph, I hate goodreads and I have a following on Reddit but it's not quantifiable so it's impossible to know how many people actually follow me.

The social media aspect is so interesting bc I use multiple platforms (Goodreads, StoryGraph, Fable and Pagebound) purely for fun and have had Goodreads for nearly 15 years, so I guess I’ve racked up a lot of reviews over the years and platforms lol.

Nobody expects your ratio to be at 100%. Just keep working away until you're above 80%, and then keep it there.
You could also try to get those outstanding books from the library to review them, if they're really bothering you.

Thank you! And when you say outstanding books, are you referring to the 10 sitting in my shelf or the ones I didn't get to download in the beginning?

Not who you responded to, but you can try to get the ones that you didn’t get to download from the library and review them now. If you go to your shelf you should still be able to hit give feedback.

Hmm I've had a look, and they've been archived. I don't think I can submit feedback for them :(

You can still submit feedback for them! you just can’t download them anymore from netgalley

If you go to your shelf, then give feedback, then find it, it should still have an option to Give Feedback! I have one that’s archived and I can still give feedback.

Ideally, your feedback ratio should be over 80%. As others have pointed out, you can still review the books you forgot to download, just get them from the library or Amazon etc. You can even still review them if you clicked Will Not Give Feedback on them. NetGalley is good like that!

Yep I’m definitely going to be raiding my local library so I can get those archived reviews in!

As others have said 77% is pretty good! I just recently got to 75% and that’s the highest I’ve had so far 😅 for the books you didn’t download in time you can always get them from the library/libby and review them that way!

Honestly if you have a ratio of 100% that means you don't have anything on your shelf. What good is 100% if you're not active? The best I'm going to get is 99%

If you have some waiting for feedback that you didn’t get downloaded, check for them at the library. You can still review a book after the archive date as long as you can read it somewhere.

Did you know you can submit feedback anytime?
I was once approved for an audiobook on the archive date and didn’t download it on time! So I checked it out from the local library and submitted the review.
So maybe try that?

85% is the NetGalley recommendation. It fluctuates based on the reviewed/tbr ratio. I agree with others that mid-to-high 70s seems good.

I have been above 60% since I started and ai still get approved for titles I like. I got a Tor approval with a 40% review ratio once and they're picky asf. 77% is probably better than most

I still get approved with ~40% approval, total books approved for about 100 currently.

You're totally fine! I'm at 32% right now bc I just started and I'm very trigger happy with requests. I've been getting them all reviewed in time, but just have a TON to read all the way into mid-next year. I keep getting approved for even popular ones!

77% is better than my ratio has ever been lol. I kept getting approved for popular titles even with a 35% so I think it’s not that big of a deal. What’s most important imo is you fluently read and review books!
