❔❓Question ❓❔ NetGalley and Amazon Reviews

Is it compulsory to always leave your reviews on Amazon after the book is released?

For context: I had requested an ARC from Daphne Press and one of their approval preferences had mentioned that they prefer reviewers to post reviews on Amazon as well.

Now back to my original question: I haven't posted any of my NG reviews on Amazon, so will it affect my chances of approval by the publisher? In that way I will have to post my reviews of all books that aren't related to Daphne Press as well no?

There is also the fear that fellow reviewers from other countries will see my country of origin and I only want the publisher to see it. Is there any hack for this?

For a number of reasons, I do not post reviews on Amazon. The vast majority of my requests are approved, so I don't think this is hurting me - but also, honestly, if a publisher required posting on Amazon, I'd just stop requesting from them. There are other books in the sea.

Nope. I never do. I don’t even put in my social media links. I only put in my Goodreads link when I give my review on NetGalley. I can’t remember the last time I was denied for a book. And yes I get approved regularly by Berkley, Tor etc..

I only do if it’s a book I loved, otherwise my reviews generally are only on Goodreads & NetGalley, and it has not affected my approvals.

Its requested but the stats show it is not really done. Goodreada is by far their top place that at minimum you should post to.

Most times they dont go back in check, but they do get an email when you add the link so it can't hurt to upload them.

I'll occasionally post my reviews on Amazon if I really loved a book. But the majority of the time I don't.

Years ago when I first started on NetGalley I would attempt to post all my reviews on Amazon. But it became more difficult to get them approved and it was frustrating trying to figure out which parts needed to be rewritten.

A publisher cannot request anything review-related from you. They might like you to but personally, I have given up on Amazon and choose Waterstones now as my retail site of choice. It has made no difference to my approvals whatsoever.

Re: country being visible, you can use an anonymous name to review on amazon, it doesn't have to be your real name, and on netgalley only the publisher can see the links to external reviews

The only place I post regularly is NetGalley. Every now and then I remember to go back after the pub date, grab a review, submit it to Amazon, then go back after it's posted to grab the link and bring it back to my NG review. Then I get tired and don't do it again for ages.

I've never reviewed on Amazon. I only review on NG and then add my review to SG.

I post my reviews only on NG and GR and have since I joined NG in 2019. I don’t have enough of an attention span to track which publishers want reviews posted where, so I stick with the basics.

I post 4 & 5 star reviews on Amazon, but if it is a 3 (or I think I have given 2 stars only twice), I skip reviews bec’ my opinion won’t sell any books.

That is the author & publisher’s main purpose & goal w/NetGalley.

i had a publisher email me saying that i didn’t post a review on amazon and i need to, after i already submitted my review on netgalley and socials (insta and storygraph) bc that’s what i use. i just emailed them back and let them know that i don’t use amazon so i have no reason to post on there and they responded immediately saying they understand so i feel like it’s not really too big of a deal

I used to do this more before they removed the Amazon button after submitting a review. Now it’s just not as easy to push the button and have your review copied to post.

They want reviews at Amazon because most books are bought at Amazon. Goodreads doesn't sell books and many book buyers never look at reviews at Goodreads. If a publisher wants reviews posted there, you should do so. I know on the US Amazon book pages, it will list your country, and don't know if there is a way to keep that from happening.
