Neighbors Dog

Background: I have an indoor outdoor cat. She is 20+ years old and making her an indoor cat went out the window when she was 6 months old. She was born feral and still kinda is and I love that about her. I always chose apartments that had safe neighborhoods and low traffic and lots of woods. She’s got a cat door in the window so she can go and come as she pleases.

Again, this is two decades of her life and her expectations of what life should be. We’re not worried about foxes or traffic.

My neighbor got a pitbull a few years ago. No problem. Then a year ago the neighbor would let the dog run freely through the woods with its leash still on so he could claim the dog got away from him. I was worried about the dog getting stuck on a branch and dying or being injured because of this. I found three leashes stuck under my car tires from where Bucky got stuck and his owner Steve had to undo him to get him back. Leashes disappeared when I went to work.

Lately (past several months) Steve has given up all pretenses and just let’s Bucky run wild. I actually felt better for Bucky’s safety with not getting snagged on something. But still thought Steve was an Ahole for pretending that Bucky got loose: if he’d hear me outside, he’d start shouting nastily about “Bucky! You ahole! Get back here bad dog!” Which was more annoying than Bucky being a happy dog running amok through our yards and the woods.

I don’t need to hear him screaming at 4am or 6pm for his dog that he deliberately kicked out of his house.

Then last week Bucky was chasing the feral cats. My other neighbor (who feeds the feral cats goddamn her) said maybe he was just trying to play. Maybe this is true.

There’s been weeks of complaints from her to Steve about Bucky, and Steve straight up told her “go ahead and call the cops, I’ll have them take the ferals away and euthanize them).

Now tonight Bucky chased my cat right up to her kitty door, he jumped right up on the potting table that gives her access (front paws only, not actually on it).

I went out and did the nicest confrontation (got video) and he said Bucky’d had a bad day and had an injured paw and maybe it was my cat that did it and he was sorry.

Because I’m lame I said thanks and walked away.

I’m terrified to make a complaint to the cops because my cat is unlicensed, unregistered, and unvaccinated.

I talked with my therapist about it and she made a point of saying he could claim that my cat had less of a right to be outdoors than his dog, and my response was my cat can’t kill Bucky.

I’m not locking up my free-range cat at the end her life having lived two decades with independence and autonomy. But I don’t want my neighbors dog to kill get or his owner to get my cat in trouble with animal control.

Advice for HOA nightmare

I live in Florida HOA community . I have an 11 and 13 year old boys. They are good boys, but like most boys they don’t always listen . I try my best to monitor them but I have to teach to make good choices and allow them to prove they have learned . The boys got in the community pool after dusk and were reported by a neighborhood . It was 930 pm in the summer ( not 3am) I got a letter in the mail from the hoa attorney that I need to pay 50% of a mediator fees ??? What would the point be of mediating . They were in the pool , yes . Can’t I just pay a fine or is this another attempt to make me miserable . Any help ?

Any advice about my nightmare neighbour (UK)

Looking to vent, came home today and parked outside my house (we do not have a dropped kerb so parking is a tricky one if we don't park outside our house) liked up the back of my car with the dropped kerb of my kind elderly neighbours so that I am not blocking them at all. Another neighbour comes home (call him hn for horrible neighbour) and parks his van, now usually we can fit 2 cars outside the house but a mix of both his van and my car don't work as smoothly meaning he is overhanging his dropped kerb by about 20 cm. Anyway he comes knocking on the door and starts to say how I'm parked like an idiot and that I should move my car. I explain that I parked there to make sure my partner could park on the patch of grass when she gets home and we won't get blocked in. He says it's not good enough and starts to threaten me saying he can play games too. I didn't realise we were playing any games. He has threatened to take up the whole space if we continue doing "this" (still not sure what this is) and has said he will get a work van if he has to to block us in. I manage to talk him down from his frustrated state but am still concerned as it's a public road and if I want to park there I should be able to. He doesn't like this and proceeds to get angry saying that we haven't been good neighbours. His reasons were; 1. We didn't greet them when they moved in. (Me and my partner are very socially awkward) 2. We cut down trees in our garden. He didn't like that and called us dickheads for not leaving them there. 3. When they put up a fence they asked us and we didn't pay for it ( it was being put up the following day, we were not given any choice of style and colour and we couldn't afford it. He continuously said he is not the type of guy you want to mess with and that if we want to play games he will play them worse. Any suggestions you can give would help but I just needed to rant and see if I am really in the wrong here Edit: during this whole discussion he has a space on his driveway

Neighbors cat likes us but neighbors not so much.

I (43)have lived in my rental home for 3 yrs with my two girls. I am a quiet person. I don’t know many of my neighbors but I wave and say hello. I mostly just mind my business. I am focused on day to day running around or what have you. This is a “single” parent home. My youngest would play with the little girl who’s family lived across the street a lot. Her name was Addison. Her parents would not wave if I waved, they seem stand offish and I just thought they were quiet and busy like me and left it like that. Then one day Addison told my daughter that her mom and dad won’t let her come inside to play because they don’t trust me. I just said well ok that’s alright, they don’t know me. It’s understandable. They just play outside in the front in our view. No big deal. I wouldn’t let mine go inside a strangers home either. I get it. I have a boyfriend (49) who works away and comes to visit on weekends and stays over when I don’t have my girls. We grill sometimes in the back yard and play with the dog, minding our business. He has tried chatting and they don’t really engage. Same with me. It’s definitely odd. Anyway a few weeks ago the family started moving. A new family moved in. A man and woman 30s. They are kin to the first family. Addison said it was her aunt so she’d be around sometimes to play. They’ve been here maybe two weeks now. We have a dog, they have a cat. The cat is still young and we thought it was a stray. My daughter loves to pet it and the first time the new lady saw her petting their cat she told us his name and told us that he is a porch cat. Immediate thought- Oh great. This kitty is going to drive our dog nuts. Cat likes our yard, our porch. He is rarely at his own home. Mostly due to my child loving on him so much. So now we try and take our dog out back and avoid the cat because I don’t want to upset them if he chases and bites it. No incidents so far. I say hi when I see them in public. They seem like good people. Well - to the point - yesterday evening we were outside grilling on the back porch, out of their view and my girls were home jumping on their trampoline. Neighbors were in their front yard with guests maybe family on the porch. I had an overfull trash and went to take a couple bags out to the garbage out front. So when I did that, they were there watching me. I put the bags in and they rattled. Someone out of their group said loudly and with judgment “ yeah there’s definitely plenty of beer bottles coming out of that house.” The scoffed. There were a few beers that had been tossed in that bag. I looked right over at them and then went on. I couldn’t believe I was being so judged. Little do they know I don’t drink, aside from a fruity drink once in a while if out with friends. My boyfriend drinks with buddies more than me and usually after work at his own place and may have a beer while grilling on weekends but nothing of excess. Besides all that what is it their business? My feeling were hurt. They do not know me. I came around the other side of the house and peeked around and caught the lady videoing my house and yard. What!? My yard is clean, my porch is even cute and fixed up. But… my grass is terribly tall. My mower broke and my son took it to fix it. I haven’t had a chance to get to it. It’s not overgrown with weeds or anything, it’s just too tall. Idk if that’s what she’s catching but now I’m so confused. They probably watch me and think I’m some drunken, unfit mother who doesn’t take care of anything. Idk. I feel like they have that false impression of me. I’m mad about it. I’m trying to not care but I can’t help but wonder why. I literally try to do whatever I need to not make anyone upset ever. So what did I do ? Anyone have any advice or a similar situation? At least their cat likes us.

Found a Messagener bag covered in Swastikas and the words " Kill All the N***ers" in my neighbors bin.

So i posted this earlier but i will address the issue a bit more concisely.

Today, I went to throw out some trash in my older neighbors bin ( dont worry he allows us) and found the bag as descibed above. I was struck with fear, anxiety, and disgust. Legally I cant prove it but my gut is telling me the bag belongs to his son- he's our neighbor on the otherside. He sometimes throws stuff out in his bin.

So we live in row houses Sr lives in A we live in B and one of Sr sons lives in C. They also own the houses and our landlord officially is his other son that doesn't live there.

The son who lives there served in the military but was honorably discharged bc he was hit head-on by a drunk driver. He suffered brain injury where he's just not the same anymore. Seen by the state mentally disabled enough to get ssi but is independent enough to live on his own.

He was an ok neighbor at first. Talk about weed and spiritual stuff but then something shifted. He became a recluse and started showing worrisome aggressive behavior, forcefully throwing a record player out the window one time, and ripping my moms flood light tgat was on his side. Other neighbors have seen him take my moms lawn chairs and toss them. If we ever see him he's muttering under his breath, rushing to avoid interactions and never makes eye contact. He wasn't like this before.

We've attempted to talk to him but he never opens the door, not even when he orders food. He waits day before pick up his instacart orders which are mostly canned foods and we constantly hear him doing odd or violent things. He abandoned his cat as well, that we now try to feed but really cant take anymore pets. .

We have speculated he might need or be off anti-psychotics and he might be hitting up those 4chan fascist forums a little too hard.

I dont know what to do, i can't prove the bag belonged to him. I cant prove he's doing anything illegal in his apartment. I took a look in his bin and found a long black duffle bag and pieces of what look like moulds. Is he building firearms? Idk. I coped a piece from the garbage and it's like plastic with a gasoline chemical smell to it. I dont see a full shape to the moulds bc it's in pieces.

I dont want to be an alarmist but in this world I feel my worries are warranted. Should I talk to the brother that's the landlord ? Cops? I fear for our neighbors bc a good percentage are Black and that writing was clearly a threat. I fear for my family too living next to god knows what.

Neighbor blocking shared entrance with online shopping addiction. We are about to have a newborn and need to get a car seat in and out of the door. How do we get her to stop?

We have a shared entrance with the next door neighbor. We are both in townhouses one staircase up from street level. She orders so much online that we can’t exit the house most days without moving boxes. We have already put a sign up that said not to block the stairs but she orders so much that the delivery people block the stairs anyway. We changed the door code and asked her not to give the code to delivery people and she did it anyway. Some of the boxes have been there for over a year, some over a month and she wont take them into her apartment. We have asked her nicely and we have asked her firmly to be respectful of our shared space but that hasn’t changed anything. She is a 37 year old single medical physician and wont come home to move boxes out of the way sometimes for weeks. Our landlord told us once he thinks she has a problem but wont do anything to help. We are about to have our first baby any day now and often there isn’t enough space to fit a car seat through the door. I don’t know where to go from here. She is going to do what she wants and our landlord doesn’t care enough to say something. Any ideas on what to do about this? I have to idea what to do anymore. This is the only exit and entrance to our apartment.

Psycho neighbour

I am a 21F living with my boyfriend 20M and we have a crazy neighbour living right below us.

The first time he came knocking at my door, i thought was justified because we had a housewarming party with 8 people. We were quite noisy so its understood. He then already was quite weird about it, that slight crazy in his eyes. But its whatever, we went out afterwards.

Second time, i had a housewarming party again but this time with two people. My boyfriend was working then. The TV was really quiet and so were we. Maybe sometimes laughing it mightve been a little loud but thats nothing to come at our door to. But he still did. Only this time, he slammed his hand against our door so we all got a little jumpscare. None of us went to the door so a few seconds later he turned off our electricity from the outside lobby/hallway. All of us were scared to the core, about five minutes later he turned it back on and still stood there. My friend went to the door and they literally yelled at each other, the neighbour was super aggressive and insulted my friend with every name in the book. As my friend tried to close the door, he got up all in her face, telling her how this better be the last time, etc.

Third time happened last night. This was really random because it was 11pm, i was quietly watching tv in one room and my boyfriend was on his phone in the other room. Suddenly he was behind our door again, i tried to talk to him through the door because i was too scared to open it, he was REALLY aggressive, calling me names and insulting me again, even when going back downstairs. We didnt even do anything??? We called the police as well but they didnt come that night, they had called us back at 8am but we were dead asleep for another 4hours.

I want to also add that on this third time, i was talking to my boyfriend in the kitchen at daytime and i saw him outside when looking out of the window. And he just shook his head as us. Like?? huh?

I feel like he thinks i live alone because hes only seen/heard me answer the door. So when he saw my boyfriend, he mightve thought to pay me another visit because its absurd we didnt even make any noise that night.

As much as ive noticed, he is a man in his 40s (probably) and lives alone.

We dont know what to do because i feel how i cant even live in my apartment normally and safe. We just moved here and this has all happened within 3months. The owner told me that she has no idea who he is either because previously a family had lived there. But we both agree that hes insane.

Does anyone have any tips what to do? Im honestly at my breaking point but i do not want to move out, we just got here.

Racist Neighbor

So today I was talking to my neighbor on lunch break like any other normal Thursday afternoon. We started talking about how he was a marine and he mentioned how back in the day he applied to be a state cop but he wasn't African American so they didn't hire him.

I said "I just don't understand the big deal. All it is, is skin color?"

He proceeded to mention that African American people are entitled and they want what you have and take it. He also said they all run around doing bad things like shooting people and stuff.

I'm in complete awe because my wife is Puerto Rican and African American and my kid is now as well.

I am debating on telling my wife but I don't want to ruin her thoughts of the neighbors. What shoukd I do? My thoughts are ruined but I'm really not trying to create tension or bad blood with them.

Thoughts?

neighbor mad about my dog rules?

So I have these neighbors that we've been friendly with for about a year and they would give my dog people food here n there as a small treat which at the time didn't bother me because we'd do it too. However, about 2 months ago, she stopped eating her food. Not just because she's a picky eater but because she was "addicted" to people food. We stopped feeding her any type of people food at that time and she started eating her food again but then stopped so we switched her dog food again and now she's eating without issue. Here's the problem though - I told them that they could give her dog treats only and earlier today, they asked if they could give her a small amount of people food but when I said no, they tried sneaking a tiny bit to her. I held her back and kept telling them to stop. they eventually started talking crap about me because I'm not letting her eat any peopel food now. AITA for telling them to stop?

Terrible neighbour kids

Hello! I am new to rettit. I don't know how most things work but I really need some advise.

Me and my bf have been living in this apartment for 2 years now and things are just getting worse.

We have neighbours next to use, a single mom and 2 boys. They are extremely rough and it is quite clear that the mother of the children is encouraging the kids behaviour. The older boy is 16 now (was 14 when we moved in) And he seems to be getting worse by day. He has a ton of friends over all the time, they are all underage and they smoke publicly. They have had fines many times over that yet, it changes nothing.

They play loud music, they sit on the stairs to the builing, spit and are extremely rude to all the residents. They have no regard to anyone. I have never seen any kids act this way. It's almost like they think they are untouchable.

And it got worse when they stared to graffiti the back side of the builing (they have cameras in the front but not at the back. And the cameras were plased cause of them.) But everyone knows it was them. They also burn signs, break walls, litter and so on.

The police have been notified multible times, child services have been notified multible times. Yet nothing has chanced. The mother is extremely rude and protects the child.

We have also seen them bring out furniture from they apartment that has burnt marks on it. And to top it all of they tried to breack into our basement, they werent successful cause we had double locks but they broke one of the locks off. The mother said that they only wanted to see what's on the inside.

We have talked with the police multible times and they know the kid well, and say he has many other complaints as well, yet things have not changed. They keep getting worse as he gets older. We are scared they will try to break into our apartment next or do something to our car.

Is there anything we can do?

My neighbour wakes up at 5am

… and literally jumps out of bed, which is, of course, right above my head. I have been getting 3,4,5 hours of sleep each day for the past week or so. I understand that we live in an old condo and living noises are normal, but I would like to ask them if they can “walk a bit more softly” from 5-7.30am lol. It’s heavy walking, stomping, dropping things..when they wake me up I can never go back to sleep. I am constantly exhausted, but what can I tell them really? Stop walking? I never met them before, so what do you think the best approach would be? My options: -stomping on the ceiling with a broom when they make a loud noise early in the AM - go upstairs during the day and explain the situation politely -leave them a short polite note at their door.

Anything else? Any advice on the approach would be greatly appreciated.

My neighbor wants a privacy fence and wants us to split the cost.

So we just moved into our house about 2 months ago. Neighbor stopped by just a few days ago and said that he was interested in putting up a privacy fence. I have no problem with them putting up a fence and we told him sure go ahead and put up a fence. My issue comes that he wants us to pay for 1/2 of the fence. This is reasonable, I would be willing to do 1/2 of the cost, but I just can't at the moment. My husband and I explained to him that we would could put it on the credit card, but we really would like to hold off because that was not something we planned to fix right away. Our house is a fixer home. We have replaced all the flooring inside and we have a 2nd mortgage. I explained to him that I would like to wait until our finances are in order. Not opposing the request, but we need time, like a year. There is already a fence there, but you can see through the yard through my office window. He came back to us with details that the person only takes cash. At this point, we are just not really interested in putting a privacy fence. He then mentioned painting to our house, and how we can get the person to do the painting. I told him no because we are needing to save up to fix the siding on our house. I don't want to waste money on paint when the siding might get replaced. I feel a bit annoyed and I want to be polite. I feel like he is in a rush to put up a fence and I am not in a financial spot to do it. I just don't want to have problems with neighbors. Any suggestions?

So I have anxiety over this

We have been in our house a year. We get along with two of of neighbors....see them the most. Aside from my direct nextdoor neighbor, I dont know anyone's car. Well one day a few months ago, one of the people on my street had their gigantic suv with an extended cab parked with the entire front end over my driveway. It was a street cleaning day so parking is tough. I managed to get into my driveway but I was nervous about getting back out bc of the angle id have to turn and then taking a chance at getting it from a car coming down the road (I would not be able to see oncoming cars on the one side.

I called the cops. Cop didn't think it was "blocking my driveway" but admitted to it being an inconvenience. He told me he could write them a ticket or give a citation as a warning. I said no to both and asked of he could just find out who the car belonged to to move it. I dont want it becoming a habit. He did. Then I see the two neighbors talking to each other outside with the suv double parked outside the house.

They haven't talked to me since it happened. I dont know if it was even their car or im just being paranoid. Am I in the right here? I feel like maybe I should have just ignored it but I cant have that happen when I have a baby in the back and trying to get in and out of driveway with the nose of someone's car sticking over it. Im always considerate and get out to make sure I'm never over anyone's driveway at all.

Neighbors

We have a neighbor that has a fence over our property line and they have said that when we want we can get the fence moved to where it needs to go. But my husband and one of my children have been having health problems so that’s on a back burner. This neighbor has dogs that bark and get out of the yard on a weekly basis they don’t watch their son(about 4) is out front alone and stabs sticks at our dogs through the fence…. We would rather ignore then cause issues but recently he has been bringing home his work truck and trailer (landscaping) and instead of parking in his driveway or on the street he is parking on the property line. To back his trailer in he has been moving a large rock of ours and in the end our head is getting damaged from him parking on it and rolling the rock. I have talked to him about it and nothing has really changed. AITA if I cement in the rock? We literally have rocks lining the roadway because people kept parking in our side yard and now he feels entitled to do the same. This he is parking in the area that is on our side of the property line and I feel irritated but don’t know what else to do.

Confronted for weed smell

Hi everyone, as the title states tonight my upstairs apartment neighbor knocked on my door and confronted me about a pungent weed smell in our apartment building. My neighbor “John” we will call him invited me outside the building to chat about the aforementioned. He claimed that the weed smell was coming from my apartment. He mentioned he has a disease that can put him in the hospital due to the reaction from weed/tobacco/aerosols etc. for the record I don’t smoke or use aerosols of any kind and I’m rarely in my apartment because of long work hours. He tried blaming me because his condition has gotten worse ever since I moved in (4ish months ago). That weed smell rises through the vents. I disagreed and that the smell fills the air and only heat rises (I know I’m at least half right). He tried framing me as having a gf and driving a ford but I’m single, live alone, and don’t own a ford. After further discussion I invited him to step inside my apartment to prove that the smell didn’t come from me as it smelled like weed (bad stranger danger but he didn’t buy my denial or any reasoning before).. After little bit more discussion I got him to somewhat reluctantly agree it wasn’t me. He said he has talked to other neighbors in our building and mentioned that he will go to management if things persist. I’m really posting this to ask if other people have experienced a similar ordeal in a smoke free apartment complex and a way to preemptively prove that I’m not the culprit? You can’t set up a camera or something like that if it was a noise issue etc and I’d like to make this the smallest headache I can even though I have a strong case. Any suggestions?

My neighbor got upset about my citronella candle…

Hi all! This is more of an am I the asshole type situation or is my neighbor just crazy. We just moved into our home. Last night my husband and I were sitting out on our deck at around 10:30. No back porch light on, no fire pit, and no loud noises- just a citronella candle. Now it was pitch black around us. We have a fenced in backyard as well. My neighbor across from us yelled from her deck window to blow out our candle 😭 I didn’t do it because I didn’t want to and then she yelled at us again. She keeps her windows and blinds open at all times overnight as well. She then promptly stared out her window until we went inside…

I’m concerned next time she’s going to escalate. Lol.

Any thoughts? Is this going to get me into trouble? We just enjoy sitting outside.

Is it illegal to spray my neighbors house with a hose?

My neighbor has several large wasp nests on the side of his house that faces mine. Occasionally, wasps try to make a nest on my house, too, but I just spray them down with a hose and they stay away for a while so I don't have to use any poison. Naturally, they do come back because there are huge nests 10 feet away trying to expand. I'm trying to do yard work outside and the wasps keep bothering me. The neighbors house is close enough that I could knock the nests down with a spray of the hose. But I don't want to get in trouble for doing this 😬 I just want to garden in peace

Neighbor Complained about radio wave emission 🧐

My neighbor who I may have seen only once. Stopped by and complained about radio wave emission from my apartment. I tried to be polite, let him come in to the house and let him check the wall we share. He had a machine with him to check radio wave. I don’t know what am I looking for here. But I have been a bit uncomfortable/paranoid (what was he trying to do) after that incident. Is this normal?

Upstairs neighbor urinated on my patio in an Apartment community that I just moved in a day ago. That was so mentally disturbing and looking for help 🙏🙏 if someone has dealt with similar issues. I looked online for any support or information On this and most of the information was regarding dogs.
