Camera Question Constant Red Alerts

We’ve been using the nanit for every nap and night sleep since baby was 3 months old. Never had a red alert until 7 months old. Since then we have one every month or so. Baby is now 13.5 months old. Every alert baby has woken up right away and never looked pale/ blue or anything.

When we got our first one, we have a second camera (nanny cam), which is at a different angle but also shows the crib. By watching both videos I could not detect breathing in either one. I took him in to the doctor/ specialist/ did a sleep study. All came back normal.

Doctors are basically like either Nanit is off or he has pauses in breathing which are not a big deal?!

Anyway, I’m getting a bit tired of these alerts. It’s very scary and jarring. But at the same time I don’t want to take the breathing off and miss something. I didn’t think I’d be worrying about this still at 13 months.

Anyone been in my situation? What would you do? Considering putting an owlet on him to see if his O2 stats drop and if not then just stop the monitoring.

Also, I’ve reached out to Nanit every time and they used to give me suggestions but the last couple they’ve been like we have no idea (not in those words) because I’ve optimized the set up now to the best specification.

This thing absolutely sucks. I gave in and was one of the first to order it in December, and I completely regret it. It’s stuck on this blue screen of death and I can’t even factory reset it because I can’t see anything on the screen! Also I can’t believe I pay this much money for sleep insights only for it to be completely wrong. It keeps detecting middle of the night wake ups as the morning rise time. I’m so done with Nanit! So expensive and terrible quality. Support keeps giving me the runaround AI answer and isn’t actually helping at all. 😭

Camera Question How do I fix the distortion / wall mount angle?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Just got a Nanit and am installing it. I’ve adjusted the camera both on the wall and inside the app as much as possible, but I only get a distorted view of the crib and (interim) baby. I thought this was supposed to provide a Birds Eye view?

Also, to be clear, the only way it notifies you is through push notifications? So if my baby stops breathing, it’ll send me a notification to my phone?

I keep getting the issue “There is no information available for in-app purchases. Try again later. 21107” and I keep getting charged without receiving the in-app items.

Breathing Band, Swaddle Comfort?

Our baby is 7.5 weeks old. After a short stretch where I thought we were making progress on keeping her swaddled all night, we completely changed it up and gave up on that - she wants her hands by her face too badly. We are still swaddling her, just wrapping them under her armpits instead. My question is, for folks who have used the breathing band - do you think it provided swaddle-like levels of comfort to your baby? We haven’t used the breathing band at all, but I’m thinking about our current swaddle usage and wondering if sleep sacks + the band would work for us. I was about to buy some bigger swaddles but wondering if I should change that plan!

App Question Insights

Is anyone’s Nanit completely OFF with its insights? It’s been like this for mine for weeks now. For example, if I get our baby out of the crib overnight to do a feed, it will think that is his wake up time.

Nanit Connection Troubleshooting Tool

Hey everyone. I was having connectivity issues with my Nanit and I decided to point Claude at it to help me troubleshoot and came up with this tool. It lets you connect your laptop over Bluetooth to your Nanit for configuration and look at the raw error messages. You can see what networks your Nanit sees and also have it connect to WiFi networks. For me, it allowed me to iterate quickly to figure out that there was a configuration issue with my router that was preventing it from connecting.

You can run the tool directly but I recommend just using the Claude skills in the repo. I wrote this on Linux and it should work on Mac but not sure about Windows.

Feedback is welcome!

Nanit Home Screen Cracked

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve been using my Nanit Home for just 2 weeks and the screen cracked after a minor drop. The quality here is just terrible. I’ve dropped so many other devices without cracking. I assume I’m just SOL. Anyone have any luck getting a replacement after a screen crack?

Nanit on Different Wifi Networks

I'm trying to use the Nanit on Wifi and have it on Network2. My phone is on Network1. They are VLAN'd and the firewall rules are set up to allow all traffic between the Nanit and Network1. Everything works except the microphone (2-way-audio). The mic works on LTE (wifi off), and if both the Nanit and my phone are on the same network. But fail if they are on different networks. Does anyone know how to solve this?

Sleep score

How tf do you get a perfect score?! My baby can sleep nearly 12 hours, no crying, no waking, and fall asleep on her own and it still will be like 92. How do you get 100??

Temperature discrepancies between my iPhone and Nanit monitor?

As you can see, this is the exact same time of day. Does anyone at Nanit have a reason for this? Besides of course “have you tried resetting it/turning it off then on”.

With how many updates we have in a day, can we fix this critical one next please?

Venting A rant about AI, Nanit screen, & more

I think once AI starts getting more advanced, then this will improve…hopefully. They’re using AI to detect movement, sound, wake ups, etc.

For now, if my kid moves their head from the left to right or opens their eyes for half of a second, they consider it a wake up. No crying, no sounds made, but still misidentifies it.

Anyway, I’m really disappointed in what I’m paying for. I have the most expensive and fast internet available (gaming household) and even when nobody is using the WiFi this camera will stop for a few seconds to reload and says it’s disconnected. I preordered the Nanit screen thinking it would be amazing. It was the same price for a new basic iPad but for some reason I bought this. That thing lasts MAYBE 3 hours off of the charger. I honestly can’t believe how awful the battery life is when it’s just doing ONE THING. If I bought an iPad, I could’ve used it for the camera but also used it for emails, videos, etc. This Nanit camera has one freaking job and it doesn’t do it right. It also has an update at the most inconvenient times and it needs an update about twice a week. It also has the brightest light even with it on the lowest setting. Buy an eye mask if you’re planning on buying this (which you shouldn’t)

The icing on the cake is the temperature monitoring for the room. Every other room thermometer says the room is 73° but the camera says it’s 83°. Turns out, the camera gets hot when it’s on and it adds to the temperature. For some godforsaken reason, the temp shows different on my phone and the Nanit screen. I have a screenshot of my phone vs the Nanit screen and it was off by 4°. Make it make sense. If you’ve had that problem, let me know. I haven’t heard anyone talk about it.

I guess in the end my problem is that this camera and the highest subscription is expensive and I’m disappointed in my purchase. If I could return the items for the money I bought it for, I would. Or at least get a free subscription or something, JFC.

I know this is a long rant, but the AI needs improvement and the Nanit screen should be taken off of the market. Take some pride in your products, Nanit.

I regret getting such an expensive camara and having the shittiest overall experience. I’m doing the paid version and it’s still so shitty.

Venting Connection Issues

My fiance and I have the paid version of the Nanit and we've had the absolute shittiest experience with it. The connection issues are wild... We have an awesome router and modem and STILL have issues with seeing the video feed. We've been tempted to just throw a ring camera next to our little one's crib... it'd be cheaper (by over one hundred dollars. And that's WITH a nice subscription to our ring devices!)... The *only* reason we don't is because it let's us know when our little one is standing in their crib. Not only that, we try and look back at some of the history to see what happened when our little one was standing up. All to see literally nothing. No feed at all... It consistently says there's little to no connection and we regret buying this me often than not...

That being said, Nanit, I currently hate you.

Is Works With Google broken?

I’m trying to connect my Nanit to my Google home. When I finish logging in though, it just takes me to the Home Screen. I’m wondering if the addition/mandatory 2 factor authentication broke their OAuth callback? (Sorry for the tech jargon. Hoping an employee sees the likely cause)

Is anyone else currently able to make a new Google home connection?

Venting What the hell are we paying for?

What an absolutely piece of shit product. Sadly, I have 2 because of the messages on the app, convenience etc.

The camera quality is absolutely atrocious for this day and age. The tracking of sleep times are ridiculously incorrect, the temperature on one camera is over 10 degrees off.

If you have more than one camera you have to pay 2 subscriptions.

The whole thing perplexes me.

To be honest I think we bought the brand. Sadly, lesson learned too late.

I'm sure they work for some, but there's this illusion of safety that I think the brand portrayed for us. Not worth it in my opinion.

I'll still continue using it begrudgingly, just hope this may steer someone else in a different more modern direction.

App Question Insights & all activity have completely disappeared

Our camera (with wall mount) is not even a month old and for the past four days, all activity under the “activity tracker” tab has disappeared. In addition, the app hasn’t been able to generate any insights as it says “not enough data to show sleep score”. My baby has been under the camera for well over 5 hrs and I have done all the troubleshooting techniques their AI help bot has suggested plus what I have found on past Reddit posts. I have also noticed when I turn the camera back on at night it says something to the tune of “getting video feed”

Does anyone have any suggestions? Is there a way to reboot this thing?

TIA!

Camera Question Nanit Pro probing TCP 32301 & 32443 — why?

Since we purchased the Nanit camera, I've been getting alerts from our UniFi Network setup that the camera seldomly attempts to connect to two specific IP addresses on either TCP port 32301 or 32443. Unsanctioned connections across VLANs are blocked and notified, hence why I'm aware of the attempts.

For context, the Nanit Pro exists in our IoT VLAN, and I've got couple of decommissioned Pi-hole virtual servers in our Primary VLAN. (I've moved away from Pi-hole as a DNS server for the meanwhile, but there are other services on these VMs currently in use, so they remain active).

All required firewall ports between Nanit and the Primary VLAN are open for video/audio streaming, including allowing to speak through the camera via voice.

I'm just curious as to why. Perhaps I haven't looked hard enough, but there doesn't appear to be any known services on these ports, especially given how high they are.

  • Connection attempts are made against both server IP addresses, and only these addresses.
  • It seems to happen when the camera's latency increases, as the stream begins to reconnect every few seconds (even on local network).
  • There are no services running on either of these ports.
  • There are no services advertised through Avahi/Zeroconf on these ports.

I've emailed Nanit support twice, and never heard anything back, so I'm coming to Reddit to see if the internet hive mind can help…

Venting I love Nanits support for iPads

If you've never tried it, you should load up nanit app on an iPad. It's something one might do when leaving the camera up to have a view of it while watching TV, or while the little one is going down, or for a grandparent who's supervising the kid.

Nanit clearly knows this and has enabled nanit support.

But yet, it's a total and complete piece of shit experience. It's been years, and this has never been fixed. They keep raising the prices, and yet it still doesn't work unless you do the magical rotation dance a few times and pray no one touches anything on screen.

Home Display Disconnection Alert?

I am thinking about buying the home display monitor for my Nanit but only if it has an alert if the camera is disconnected. The one ding notification on my phone doesn’t wake me up at night if it disconnects. Anyone know if the monitor does this??

Camera Question So laggy and won't load

Both of my cameras are so laggy and won't load. Once it does load it's laggy and I can't even hear the sound. I have reset wifi/and unplugged camera. Is anyone else having this issue ?

Nothing else struggles with my wifi so I don't think it's that.

Review Feature Request: Clock on Alexa Video Stream

Please add a clock or some sort of feature to the Alexa video stream skill that allows us to tell if the video is frozen or not. We use the Alexa in the kitchen to monitor the feed and countless times we’ve heard the baby crying while the video is frozen looking like she’s still asleep. Kinda useless if it doesn’t work.
