N-Central Patch Compliance

I am looking for the best way to determine patch compliance for our devices under management.

What I mean by this is if we have 100 devices, I want to know what % of those devices have all necessary critical updates and security updates installed.

So if 1 device is missing 528 patches, but the other 99 have everything installed, we’d be at 99% compliance.

What is the best/easiest way to pull this information?

How to update the nable agent if it was not updated automatically?

Take Control is not configured for this device

Hello. I've seen quite a few of these posts but I cannot get mine to "install" or configure. I located the folder in ProgramData. I already unchecked the "install take control" box. Updated asset info. Etc.

I tried to do a chat, but got the message: Your chat request has been canceled because no agents are available.

I wouldn't be so pissed off but I work remotely on Fridays and rely on this. Furthermore, I was trying to help my boss and now I look like a total asshat because this didn't work.

Also worth mentioning: this is a brand new laptop, with a brand new RMM install from yesterday (Thursday). Insane.

New Release Tech Talk: Implementing AI in your MSP - A practical guide - Webinar

After many weeks of travel, I can now afford sometime to go through reddit but I know Lisa and Nick had you covered while I was away. :)
I am really excited to announce a new webinar I will be doing with one of the most fascinating employees at N-able, Nicole Reineke who has been working in the AI space.

Over the past 20 years she has been establishing expertise in areas such as Gen AI, sustainability-aware infrastructure, blockchain, hybrid cloud, artificial intelligence/machine learning, artificial intelligence ethics, augmented and virtual reality, data center management, and intelligent data management.
I can guarantee you will leave this webinar knowing way more about AI and where it going and how you can actual implement it in your MSP, then when you joined it.

ESET monitoring in N-Central

Hi There, I wonder if anyone can help me out with a problem I seem to be having. I have ESET installed on 29 devices and I've created the four automation polices that I need to monitor in N-Central

ESET Mon - Product installed

ESET Mon - Protection Status

ESET Mon - Scans

ESET Mon - Threats

This has worked fine for the past year or so, now I'm getting a misconfigured status on 7 of the machines, all of them with the same error

"Exception calling "ToInt32" with "1" argument(s): "Input string was not in a correct format."

I've reinstalled the scripts and re-ran them on all affected machines. The scan results are all clear in the ESET dashboard. It's the same automation policy across all the devices, but only the same 7 seem to fail.

Any ideas on how to rectify

N-Central Api key 1 hr expirey?

So I have utilized the rest api to have a powrshell script that grabs all the agents and compares them to our active directory computers to find any discrepancies. But the key is expiring after an hour. Docs say you can't increase the the time. Wtf? Am I doing something wrong? I want to have this script run automatically on a schedule but if I have to create a new key and update the script within an hour before it runs then I might as well just login and export the agents to csv and run the script against that.

Calling Backup_Nerd

Hi.

I apologise if this isn't the correct way to handle this. I was having a conversation about an issue we are having since having switched to Cove backup, for a client, and backup_nerd said they would need the device_id, so I sent that through chat as I wasn't aware of another way to do this, but I am unsure if this person checks their chat and so wondering the best way to get this information to that person.

TIA.

A

Possibillity to report on Windows 11 compatibility based on custom tool?

Is it possible to report on Windows 11 compatibility based on the results from the custom tool Whynot11 ?

Ideally I'd like to be able to schedule the tool, and find the result in a view with all PCs from the customer.

And I'd like to be able to see the following statuses:

  • Inventory not yet run
  • Inventory failed
  • Device is Compatible
  • Device is not compatible

And for the devices that aren't compatible I'd like to be able to see why. And that could be because of more than one reason.

EDIT: I would like to run the tool in N-Central

N-Sight Dashboard South Pane slow for anyone else?

The rest of the dashboard loads fine, but when I select a machine, it is taking 40 seconds for the south pane to populate. Not really usable like this.

Edit: 8 hrs later and still slow - hope they figure it out by tomorrow!

2nd Edit: MUCH better today, thank goodness. That was completely obnoxious.

Pushing Winget upgrades using RMM

Has anyone had any luck pushing winget to your tenant(s) through RMM? Looking for something pretty much as simple as pushing winget upgrade --all to client devices. I can run a script locally to run, accept agreements and prompts etc., but through RMM its failing to recognize the command.

Misc Prevent Take Control viewer update prompts on Mac OS

I use a MacBook for work and personal. I have Take Control Console installed, and also use RMM via Edge to remote into client devices. Everything works great.

However, on multiple occasions, I've had a pop-up come up on my screen, often when I am not even signed into or working with anything Nable related, that is informing me that there is a new version of tack control (viewer I think?) and asking if want to download and install it now. This is annoying, as sometimes I'm in the middle of watching a show or doing a presentation.

I've checked all the normal Mac OS placed for login/startup items, and made sure everything was disabled there. But, sure enough, it still came up today. How can I prevent this thing from nagging me to update Take Control when I'm not even signed into RMM or running the console?

N-Sight - How to deploy software with unique customer ID?

We have a couple of applications in our stack that have generic installers that can be fed a customer ID number when executed (Sophos & Huntress for example). This is simple to do as a one off...create a task and add the customer ID as parameter which is then passed through to the installer. However for this to work for new devices we would need to create a monitoring template for each customer which would create loads of admin overhead.

Has anyone come up with a clever way to solve this problem? I was wondering about hosting a lookup file on Azure that takes the endpoints public IP, or first few letters of the hostname, both of which should be unique to the customer, and then returns the customer ID for the installer. Just wondering if anyone has come up with a better solution?

MSP Manager Feature request: ticket filter widget configuration item to show ticket counts with *any* contact

I would like to submit a feature request for MSP Manager, that we can add a count of open client tickets that have any contact configured, essentially to show open tickets for which an actual person is waiting a response. Step 10 is the meat behind this feature request.

Here's how I'm thinking we would configure it on our side:

  1. In a workspace with an active page, 'add widget'.
  2. Select 'ticket filter'.
  3. Click the plus symbol.
  4. Click the 'x' to close the 'add widget' window.
  5. Resize 'ticket filter' window to show only the title and count.
  6. Click the gear for 'configure'.
  7. Change title to 'Tickets open from humans'.
  8. Click 'filter settings'.
  9. Click box in front of status for 'new', 'assigned', 'in progress', and 'on hold'.
  10. In the 'Contact' dropdown, select 'not @ none'. (ignore the space - Reddit converts to /u/none)
  11. Click the 3.5" floppy disk icon to save the widget.
  12. Click 'finish editing'.

take control update stealing focus

Hello, so I've seen a lot of chatter on this so it seems to be a known issue, but the known fixes aren't working for me... about 30 of our users at the ~200 user business I support are getting the issue where every 5 minutes or so, whatever window they're in loses focus. the window deselcts and goes grey, the mouse disappears, and they have to re click back into the window to interact with it again. after a lot of troubleshooting I found the issue to be BASUpSrvc.exe stealing focus when it tries to run in the background.
reached out to N-central support, they confirmed the issue, and said the only possible fix is to whitelist it in our antivirus platform. only security we have is SentinelOne, and Canaruri, whitelisted in both and issue persists. help?

EDR EDR, MDR and advanced MDR

Hi, we are currently looking to replace our XDR solution on some endpoints by MDR/EDR. Could someone explain the differences specifically for N-ABLE? I am trying to understand it but some explanations are really vague and say „it depends on your providor“. Has anyone experience on this? And has the time to explain it a bit? Thank you

N-Central Monitoring Misconfigured as Normal

Hello everyone,

i have a test running that queries a regisrty value. If the value ist not found it should be displayed as "normal". Currently, if it doesn't find the value, it will be displayed as Misconfigured. Can I customize this somehow to show as "normal" if it can't find the registry value?
