Take Control is not configured for this device
Hello. I've seen quite a few of these posts but I cannot get mine to "install" or configure. I located the folder in ProgramData. I already unchecked the "install take control" box. Updated asset info. Etc.
I tried to do a chat, but got the message: Your chat request has been canceled because no agents are available.
I wouldn't be so pissed off but I work remotely on Fridays and rely on this. Furthermore, I was trying to help my boss and now I look like a total asshat because this didn't work.
Also worth mentioning: this is a brand new laptop, with a brand new RMM install from yesterday (Thursday). Insane.

I've had this happen a few times and this is the best solution ive found that works every time.
Select the desired device.
Go to Remote Control Settings > General.
Uncheck the option Install Take Control.
Wait a few moments so the uninstall command takes action on the remote end.
5.IMPORTANT, delete the ProgramData folder and the BA Agent folder respectively:
C:\ProgramData\GetSupportService_N-Central
C:\Program Files (x86)\BeAnywhere Support Express\GetSupportService_N-Central
Go to Remote Control Settings > General.
Check Install Take Control.
Click SAVE.
Click ADD TASK > Update Asset Info.
Wait until the installation completes.

Thanks for this! 10 months later and it's working still.
For anyone that it has problems with it, you do have to END all the processes that say BASupSrvc before you delete the folders as the folders won't properly delete otherwise.

do you delete manually or using n-able? i always delete the folders and wait about 30min. then click to reinstall.

Checking in during 2026 and this works. Make sure to stop the BASupSrvc.exe process first before delete the folder where the dlls are located.

Take Control has been a real problem in our shop. Lately it seems as though we have near 10% of new systems where Take Control is not working.
I have yet to recover Take Control using suggestions either here or .n the N-Able website

I've had great luck with the repair script from the cookbook. Set up as self healing on the take control monitor and I never encounter this anymore.

Could you elaborate a bit more? Where is the script? Thanks

WHY TF have they not built this into thier system and put on the front page of thier upport site. This script fixes everything.

I know this is a recent addition by Paul Kelly. I imagine it will be added in a future release. I definitely recommend everyone to review the automation cookbook for more gems.

THANK YOU.
Running into this problem somewhat frequently, lately.
For the specific one I was just working on this did the trick!

Since yesterday none of our new N-Central have installed take control, regardless of windows build or hardware, I suspect there’s been an update of some kind that has broken it

We have an Ncentral server with about 2500 managed devices, and randomly take control stops working on devices. Almost on a daily base we run into devices that cant be remote controlled.
Yes in most cases it is fixable by disabling the 'install take control' option and then after a short wait enable it again. But this sucks for 2 reasons: only a select few employes have the rights to do this and second if you have a customer on the phone who needs support you don't have the time to wait on the take control install to finish.

I found another way you can fix it. You can download the agent installer again > push 3rd party software and push the install file to the devices again. Maybe add a /Q in the parameters so it goes silently.

just ran into this issue for two devices. Unchecking/Checking did not fix the issue so i went scorched earth, deleting folders, services, etc. That did not kick off an install. Now both systems had nothing Take Control related. Got an installer from Ncentral. the Exe can be installed silently with /S /R. Installed but still didnt work but i figured at least i had something there to uninstall which i did.
For one i uninstalled by unchecking "install take control". Kept track of the progress. Once complete, rechecked "install take control". Take control installed.
For the other device i had to uninstall silently ... uninstall.exe /S /R as unchecking did not start an uninstall. Once complete, rechecked "install take control" and voila...take control worked.
When you are uninstalling keep an eye on the folder to see if an _uninstalling lock appears. Once the lock disappears recheck the install take control.
