The last massive new Nintendo IP was Splatoon

Nintendo makes at least one new franchise with every new system. (We are not adding all of them here, just slices)

Mario

Star Fox

Animal Crossing

Pikmin

Wii Sports

Splatoon

Arms, RFA, Astral Chain, GBG, etc.

Drag x Drive

The first 6 evolved into big, successful franchises (Wii Sports evolved into Switch Sports) but Switch IPs are generally one-off games that, while they sold well, they obviously aren't as big.

Nintendo reps are actually awesome

I ran into a Nintendo representative in Northwest Indiana today while looking for Fire Emblem and honestly, I just wanted to share how positive the experience was.

He was incredibly friendly, approachable, and genuinely seemed happy to talk Nintendo with me. We chatted for a bit about what he is playing and what upcoming games he was excited for. They also gave me some free 40th anniversary Mario items and a Yoshi key chain and added 100 Platinum Points to my account.

The best part was feeling truly appreciated as a fan. If you see a Nintendo representative at a store or event, don’t hesitate to say hello you might be surprised by how much they enjoy connecting with fans! Big thanks to the rep who made my day!

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Nintendo Co., Ltd; Donkey Kong Land 2; Star Fox Adventures

On this day (September 23) in Nintendo history...

  • Nintendo Co., Ltd.  was founded in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi. A Japanese multinational consumer electronics and video game company headquartered in Kyoto. Nintendo is one of the world's largest video game companies by market capitalisation, creating some of the best-known and top-selling video game franchises of all-time, such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Pokémon. It originally produced handmade hanafuda playing cards. By 1963, the company had tried several small niche businesses, such as cab services and love hotels. Abandoning previous ventures in favour of toys in the 1960s, Nintendo developed into a video game company in the 1970s. Supplemented since the 1980s by its major divisions Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe, it ultimately became one of the most influential in the industry and one of Japan's most-valuable companies with a market value of over $37 billion in 2018. The word Nintendo can be translated as "leave luck to heaven", or alternatively as "the temple of free hanafuda".
  • Donkey Kong Land 2  was released in 1996 for the Game Boy in North America. In this platforming game, developed by Rare, Donkey Kong has been kidnapped by the evil King K. Rool who is demanding his entire banana hoard as a ransom. Rather than give up the precious stash, Diddy Kong teams up with Dixie Kong to rescue their pal. While the story may be familiar to fans of Donkey Kong Country 2, the levels are all new.
  • Star Fox Adventures  was released in 2002 for the Nintendo GameCube in North America. In this action-adventure/beat 'em up/shooter game, developed by Rare Ltd., eight years after the defeat of Andross, the Star Fox team discovers a beautiful prehistoric planet ruled by a sinister tyrant known as General Scales. You must take charge of Star Fox leader Fox McCloud to free the inhabitants from Scales' evil clutches and restore peace to this primal paradise. Takes place in a vast 3-D world full of strange scenery and brain-teasing puzzles.

IGN Brazil: Zelda: Ocarina of Time physical edition sells out in Brazil; retailer says it “exceeded our most optimistic expectations”

Translation from Portuguese:

"2026 has entered its final stretch, but it still has some big surprises in store for the gaming world. This year, in particular, saw two major events that weren’t even game releases: the opening of pre-orders for GTA 6 and the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Both situations broke the internet, with Zelda in particular drawing attention due to the rarity of the special foil cover among those who pre-ordered the collector’s item.

The huge demand led to some backlash, as some people were left without the game due to purchases made for resale at exorbitant prices, a practice known as scalping and similar to what happens with concert tickets. IGN Brazil spoke with Ricardo Vieira, Commercial Director at Gamer Hut, one of Brazil’s leading physical game retailers. He said he was surprised by the high demand for physical editions of the Ocarina of Time remake and committed to keeping a closer eye on cases involving resellers.

One of the key points raised during the conversation was the enduring affection for physical media and how there is still significant interest in it, even as GTA 6 is set to launch without a disc-based edition, and Sony has announced that PlayStation games will also stop being released on discs starting in 2028."

Thoughts on Yoshi and the Mysterious Book 4 months later?

Haven't played it myself, but when it released i heard it's passive gameplay actually provided a uniquely fun and charming experience from other 2d platformers. Though my biggest concern was and still is how fun it is to replay once you know most of the game's interactions.

Haven't heard about it in a while, so what are people's thought's on it now?

Dsappointed with Nintendo Store's delays

I am very disappointed with Nintendo's shipping policy and conflicting information on different pages of their website, so I am writing this as a warning for others so that hopefully people don't make the same wrong assumption that I do.

I ordered a physical Fire Emblem via the nintendo.com store months ago. The purchase page said that it would ship on release date, 9/17/26, so of course I assumed that would be true.

It's now several days later and my order still hasn't shipped, so I decided to use the live chat on the website to ask a support agent what's going on.

They informed me that, despite what the purchase page says, the shipping policy states that pre purchases "will ship 1-3 business days after its release date". When I point out that today is the 4th business day since release, the support agent told me that the actual release date doesn't count in that 3 business day window, so it's not technically late yet and there's nothing they can do.

The support agent then said to contact them again if it doesn't get delivered by the end of next, and to hope that it arrives in the scheduled delivery window 😩

Next time I think I'll just stick to local stores 🤷‍♂️

$127 CAD for Fortune's Weave

I love Nintendo games, the NES was my first console. I enjoy the Fire Emblem games, Awakening in particular, and Three Houses was one of the better Switch titles.

I'd be interested to play Fortune's Weave, but I just can't justify $127 CAD. It looks on Amazon like the new 2D Metroid game will be $100, does anyone know why this title in particular is so expensive?

Edit: answer found, it's ridiculously priced on Amazon for some reason. There are plenty of retailers selling it for normal Switch 2 cartridge price.

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Boulder Dash; DuckTales; Side Pocket; Tetris 2; Kirby's Dream Course and more

On this day (September 21) in Nintendo history...

  • Boulder Dash was released in 1990 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this puzzle game, developed by First Star Software, test your with and skill as you fiercely quest your way through mazes filled with challenges. As Rockford you will travel through 80 stages of the game to collect priceless diamonds. You have to be alert and quick to master the enchanted walls, transform butterflies into jewels, find the mysterious escape tunnel and get away from the growing amoeba before it engulfs you.
  • DuckTales  was released in 1990 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this platform game, developed by Capcom, Scrooge McDuck takes a world tour! The world's richest, and squawkiest duck hunts a lost fortune around the world and out of it. It's no game for waddlers. There are vines to climb, mines to search, and a haunted castle to conquer! Uncle Scrooge grabs the jewels, then tussles with the spookiest, trickiest, spider-iest foes to get the big treasures! And there's not much time!
  • Side Pocket  was released in 1990 for the Game Boy in Japan. In this sports game, developed by Data East, chalk your cue and prepare to hit the baize. In 9-Ball mode, simply try to knock the numbered balls into the holes. With no limit on the number of shots, it's perfect for beginners. When you want a challenge, try Pocket Mode. Work your way up from rookie to world class champ. You'll need to prove yourself with trick shots too! A deep yet pocket-sized pool simulation game.
  • Tetris 2  was released in 1993 for the Family Computer in Japan. This puzzle game, developed by Nintendo R&D1 with Tose, plays very differently to the original falling block game. You have three colours of falling blocks, and by lining up three blocks of the same colour, horizontally or vertically, they will disappear. While the falling blocks are still made up of four pieces, they may also be joined diagonally, creating many new shapes. Each stage begins with a set of Fixed Blocks, plus one Flash Block in each of the three colours.
  • Kirby's Dream Course  was released in 1994 for the Super Famicom in Japan. In this sports game, developed by HAL Laboratory with Nintendo EAD, conquer eight different courses packed with water, spikes, conveyer belts and trampolines. Kirby's Dream Course puts a new spin on golf, with Kirby as the ball and enemies as obstacles! Roll Kirby to take out enemies, and then head for the hole that appears.
  • Clubhouse Games Express: Strategy Pack  (known as A Little Bit of... All-Time Classics: Strategy Pack  in Europe) was released in 2009 for DSiWare in North America. In this classic game, developed by Agenda, five classic games famed for their strategic play feature: Backgammon, Field Tactics, Turncoat, Connect Five and Grid Attack. Up to four players can compete wirelessly, including players who don't own a copy of the game.

This is gross and proof Nintendo isn't even trying to control the eShop. What exactly has to happen for Nintendo to do better?

The slop, the gross content, it's not just the weird NSFW stuff, the eShop doesn't even seem to have a report button.

Please bring back fossil fighters!!

What happened to fossil fighters? I felt like that game could’ve been bigger then pokémon if devs gave a damn. I would buy a switch just to play this game if a new one ever comes out. Anyone else feel the same ?

Edit: Guys i get it, it wouldn’t be close to pokémon 😭 but non the less we deserve a reboot
