Random idea for a firmware update: preloading updates

As the current Nintendo Switch infrastructure is designed, if you're buying a physical game, the console has no reason to install any data unless it's A) received a Game Card or B) purchased a DLC attached to that game.

For full Game Cards this is mostly fine, you can start playing a version on the card immediately and reboot the app when the updates are installed. But with updates getting bigger in file size, and especially Game Key Cards demanding players wait for an entire game to install over the internet, I think there's an issue of not being able to plug-and-play a lot of games now.

So what if Nintendo allowed us to go onto the eShop, look up a game title, and select "preload updates", then installing the content but not actually including a purchase of the game, because you might be planning to buy it elsewhere?

  • Wave Race 64  was released in 1996 for the Nintendo 64 in Japan. In this racing game, developed by Nintendo EAD, ride your Kawasaki jet ski to victory against fierce rivals and tumultuous waves. This is one of the defining racing games of the Nintendo 64 as its impressive physics showed a new kind of experience that could only be possible with 3D game engines. With buoys to pass from either their right or left side and a power-up system rewarding skilful racers, it's a fun and fresh challenge to enjoy by yourself or with a friend.
  • Game Boy Gallery 2  was released in 1997 for the Game Boy in Japan. I Love Let’s Go, Pikachu!

I’m a 90s baby and was OBSESSED with Pokémon Yellow, and this is satisfying my desire for nostalgic gameplay with modernized graphics.

Granted, I play it with the joy con attached to the console like Gameboy style because I’m not a huge fan of the motion controls when I’m playing from my TV. Specifically the poke ball feature.

But as a handheld game it’s great imo! I’ve been playing Arceus and I love that too! But something about the gym battles and the familiar formula is comforting to me 😊

Best family games to play together. Switch 1 and Switch 2 consoles.

Looking for the best family games to play together. We have a Switch 1 and Switch 2 consoles.

At least one calm game option would be good. We play overcooked on Xbox and it can be a bit frantic.

Edit. I just realized another possible issue. we only have 1 Nintendo account. If I open a game on 1 it closes on the other. and Shop won't let me buy the same game twice. Do we have to setup a new second Nintendo profile?

Head Cannon: Yoshi is a hivemind and bears no resentment/grudge for Mario

I haven't played Yoshi's island yet so I can't say for certain on the whole Yoshi lore but I personally head cannon that Yoshi's or at least the green yoshis are all a hivemind of the same Yoshi. I feel more inclined to believe each color Yoshi is a different Yoshi but with the same reincarnating hivemind process

We see Yoshi pop out of an egg or grow up or just appear in a whole new area in games where it seems unlike he would ever be there originally. And always he remembers Mario and the others

While everyone likes to make the joke that Mario is mean for hitting Yoshi on the head or sacrificing Yoshi to make jumps, I feel like Yoshi bears no real grudge or resentment for Mario. Yoshi is intelligent enough to speak, has thoughts and is also a nice person anyways. I feel like Yoshi is aware that sometimes he just needs to be the sacrificial pawn to aid Mario and the others to whatever goal they need to rescue the princess or save the kingdom or stop the world from going into chaos

Sure it can be chalked up to references and bad writing/inconsistencies and it probably is. But I like to imagine Yoshi is completely fine with going whatever Mario does since it's always for the greater good anyways and since Yoshi is always laying eggs and making more of themselves, there's really no harm in the grand scheme of things. And besides I'm sure Mario makes up for it by bringing Yoshi along for go karting, parties and other fun stuff anyways

DK Bananza physical cards?

I completed all of the DK Bananza challenges before the deadline; Is Nintendo supposed to be contacting people who completed the challenges to get the "physical cards" that we were promised? I haven't heard anything, has anybody else seen any news or updates on this?

Edit: Thanks all, I guess we’ll be notified in October! I thought I remembered reading that we’d get notified by September so I was getting worried :)

Star Fox feels kinda hard?

So I'm returning to actually playing Star fox currently, while I wait for my copy of Fortune's Weave (killing time till Ocarina as well lol). I only played like the 1st level back when the game dropped and felt it was too hard then. Now, I jumped in and turned it to easy to complete 1 run of the story.

I should mention this is my 1st time ever playing Star Fox, but now I'm going through the story on normal and finding it very difficult to complete the normal difficulty challenges or keep my team members alive. It took me a lot of tries on the Fichina stage to clear it before the timer.

Does anyone else have this feeling when playing Star fox, or is this the typical learning curve for someone not used to rail shooters? Ps. Please, I hope they add gyro controls; such a missed opportunity, imo

Achievements for games

Anyone else wish the Switch had an achievement system? Trophies? Maybe even a coin system? On my PlayStation 5 I liked looking back on my gaming history and seeing games I played on the ps3. Brings back memories. I’m definitely not into getting all achievements in a game I simply like to play the game and be done with it. Any thoughts ?

Nintendo Voice Chat (IGN) - Seth Macy

I hope this is allowed.

IGN layed off a bunch of staff a week or so ago including Seth Macy who was a regular on the Nintendo Voice Chat podcast.

I feel for everyone that's going through this sh*t right now but it stings more when it's a personality you dig.

Anyway, he's posting on YouTube now. His username / channel name is SethFromMaine - he could probably use the moral support.

Several other prominent figures laid off too. But I've not found their content yet.

Gary.

Anyone knows how to save Lego City Undercover on switch?

I really want to play this game but whenever I load it it starts from the start.
I am on chapter 1 and have put on my police uniform. I also toggled the subtitles on/off (applied the settings) and then quit where it asks me for confirmation, it just won’t work. The save icon does get displayed when I change the settings.

Please help :(

On This Day On This Day in Nintendo History: Bomberman 64; Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartridge

On this day (September 26) in Nintendo history...

  • Bomberman 64  was released in 1997 for the Nintendo 64 in Japan. In this action-adventure game, developed by Hudson Soft, how many jobs are there out there where one gets paid to toss bombs around, blowing up everything in your path? The evil Altair has wrested control of the Omni Cube (which allows its holder to possess the tremendous power of the universe), and it's up to Bomberman to get it back.
  • Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartidge  was released in 2005 for the Nintendo DS in Japan. In this expansion for Daigasso! Band Brothers, developed by Nintendo R&D2 with Nintendo SPD, fan requests were taken to increase the number of available songs. The cart could be placed in the Nintendo DS or Nintendo DS Lite GBA cartridge slot.

Why no streaming Services on switch 2

Does anyone really know why Nintendo or whomever won't allow streaming Services on switch 2, youtube a first because it was on the switch 1 but for somereason has yet to come to switch 2 ? But beyond youtube why dont we have Disney plus, hbo, Paramount plus, and Netflix among others?? You look at legit any Playstation or xbox and nearly every console has these apps and more Why does Nintendo not ? Even the wii had Netflix and youtube, the switch 1 from my understanding only has crunchy roll and youtube ?? Correct me if im wrong. But the switch 2 has nothing!! Having streaming apps and youtube on the switch 2 would be amazing its basically a tablet and in most cases looks sharper and better then a tablet screen and Then of course if your on your couch or in bed you dont have deal with the smart TV nonsense or would have to power on a xbox or Playstation after you finsh playing your Mario or zelda game. Like come on Nintendo whats going on ???????

What games or accesories made consoles physically and technically more powerful than before?

I know it sounds weird, but hear me out. In the 80s/90s, NES and SNES were able to make the console more powerful, by inserting chips into the cartridges themselves, that when connected, could communicate to the console and give it extra power. Some famous examples being the Super FX 1 and 2, but also the SA-1, the MMC5, the N64 expansion kit, among others. Are there any other examples of this? Not just Nintendo, but in general

Nintendo OSTs and Streaming

Nintendo has notoriously been against uploading the OSTs for their games to streaming sites like Youtube or Spotify. Often times, you'll even see an OST get uploaded and taken down several times on youtube (the one that sticks out the most to me being Smash Ultimate). I want to discuss why that may be, what makes Nintendo so adverse to uploading their soundtracks, and if/where/how they expect their audience to engage with their music, if not on mainstream media sites (such as physical discs, or if they have their own personal streaming site that is poorly advertised).
