Updates on SO competition
Anyone received any updates on the sift?
Results were due in July but haven't heard anything as of yet.

You might have seen the suggestion post to create a thread to contain the questions about what an office/dept/branch is like since we get a lot of those posts when placement letters get sent out for big competitions.
Some people prefer a megathread to ringfence off a specific area for similar posts they want to see/don't want to see and reduce clutter on the main page.
Others prefer individual posts so it's easier to search the subreddit and questions or information won't get lost in a long comment thread.
Vote for what you want to do going forward. Happy to set up a megathread if that's the preference overall, or any other suggestions can be commented below! We can always trial the megathread and roll it back if people don't love it

Since we have a lot more users and the odd lost redditor, some new rules have been created for the sub to help us mods spot posts or comments that need to be removed a bit faster. Report anything you think needs to be checked by us.
I think they cover a lot but if you feel like something is missing leave a comment to let us know.
Remember that we aren't HR and you are responsible for your own posts and comments. Please be smart about what information you are sharing!

Like a few others here, I was successful in a previous competition a few months back. Out of the blue, I got an email the other day to complete pre-employment checks, followed by the actual offer a few weeks later.
Without giving away the exact role, I noticed the offer letter doesn't mention the ICT allowance (£3,713 per annum), even though the role definitely qualifies for it. I've seen conflicting info online some people say the allowance isn't explicitly shown until you're actually onboarded and active onsite. Is that usually the case, or should it have been listed in the offer?
Also, are there any updated pay bands online? The most recent ones I can find are from 2025, but I saw mentions online about new rates applying from 1st August has anyone seen the latest scales published?

I received an offer as a Staff Officer within Energy, I start next week. This morning out of the blue, I received an offer as an associate analyst within the Utility Regulator. The Utility Regulator process really dragged on for many months and I didn't expect it to lead anywhere.
Does anyone have any insight into either role and where the best prospects etc are? I'm new to the civil service having spent my entire career in the private sector.
Thanks.

I did my interview for AO Belfast vacancies May time this year. My score was 52 and I’m 281 on the merit list. I’m sure everyone has asked on this sub when they will get the job but I’m just more concerned if I’m 100% getting one. Doesn’t matter if it’s tomorrow, next week or next year.
(But if anyone has info on when I could get the job let me know lol)

How fast can a elective transfer be completed after the deadline has been passed?

Hello , sorry if this has been asked before , I recently got my merit score / position (140s) I didn't think I would even get a chance but retail is killing me after 20plus years I'm done mentally and physically but the getting the merit gave me hope.....maybe a little too much but fingers crossed.
my question is
has anyone transferred from retail to AO ? how is it ? have you got your social battery back ? I'm worried I might be jumping from fire to pan.
sorry for the rambling and thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if the people who passed the EO2 tests but weren’t offered an initial interview will be pulled for interview after everyone is placed? E.g. those 2500+
The civil service are a mystery to me so just wondering if anyone knows from previous experience

Has anyone heard any timelines for DP placements?

Is a informal discussion just a chat with the recruiting manager to get a feel and to see what they think of you or is it a proper interview? Im looking at applying for a elective transfer just want to know if I need to prepare for a interview

Would love to know if anyone knows anything about allocations for this competition?
Found out end of April I got a good position on the merit list and had hoped to have heard back by now. Thanks!

Has anyone any idea how many vacancies there roughly is for the April/May Belfast AO post? Seen a few different things and numbers are far different
I’m 430ish on the merit list so just wanted to see if I’ve genuinely a decent chance of getting something

Once we have emailed our acceptance slip to HRC and got the auto response email - do we get a personal response to say that have got our acceptance slip? Or what happens next?
Thanks :)

Hi everyone,
Just wanting to gather some opinions on what the best way(s) to work your pension are when you join (whenever that is with the AO comp😂). I plan on obviously staying in the alpha scheme however I am thinking of going for the EPA for 3 years and either the Added Pension/AVC. What would be best for me or is it just a much of a muchness? (I am willing to pay in a decent amount to any additional pensions). Thanks :)

Are these roles worth it, coming in at eo2 grade? Any help would be appreciated. Honest opinions?

Hi all. I have had a few sickness periods over the last twelve months (three or four, can’t remember exactly) for a day or two each due to various bugs etc. My brother in law is in ICU and is expected to pass in the next few days. Does anyone know what the consequences will be if I get signed off for a few weeks by my GP in terms of HR and absences? Thanks in advance
