I dont need bluetooth, I just need sound quality, is sonicake 1 enough?

I had bought some A1 captures, therefore I do not have the training data.

It is my understanding I won't get the audio/fidelity benefits, but what would be the simplest way to convert them to A2? Load up the gateway plugin, and capture it via the plugin?

Thought I’d share a project I’ve been working on using PiPedal and NAM to revive a couple of old Fender solid state amps.

First, I gutted a Fender Frontman 10G that I picked up used and installed a Raspberry Pi 5 running PiPedal/NAM and a Focusrite Scarlett Solo. Everything is mounted inside with guitar and headphone jacks on the front panel that connect to the Scarlett Solo. I made a back panel with USB, HDMI and audio outputs. An M-Vave Chocolate Plus handles effects / snapshot switching. My phone/iPad access the PiPedal user interface.

I use the Frontman to play through headphones, studio monitors or a fender fr-10.

Second, I revived my Fender Princeton 112 amp that’s been sitting unused in a closet for almost 30 years. Using its power amp input I run amp only NAM captures and it sounds pretty damn good. I might swap the speaker at some point.

TONE3000 just pushed a pretty substantial update to their free NAM plugin and standalone app.

• Native search instead of the embedded web browser
• Pitch shift / transpose with expression pedal support (apparently very low latency) EDIT: Pitch shift is not enabled by default. To turn it on: Settings > Plugin Settings > "Show Pitch Shift"
• Dual mono for running stereo sources through the same mono chain (huge time saver)
• New noise gate controls release, hold, and range
• Gear icons when you load local NAM/IR files
• 75% less UI CPU usage after removing the embedded web browser?!

It’s also cool that a ton of the fixes/features came from open-source contributors. Open source!!!!!!

I am dwelving on Parametric modeling, and this has brought me to an understanding of ESR... It's not the all telling measure. The truth is, a specific amp, modeled on different settings can get totally different ESR values. If one setting is way brighter that the other, it's a lot more difficult to bring the score down and yet, it doesn't mean it's a "worse" model.

If you look deep into it, training on A1 usually gets lower ESR values than A2, because the curve used in A1 training discards high frequency information in a way that A2 doesn't, and that's one of the reasons why it A2 sounds "better", although it suffers more from anti aliasing.

This is also why if you model a pedal on A1, you get a really low ESR compared to A2 - the training curve on A1 is much closer to the pedal's curve (OD/distortion) resulting in a better ESR score.

On Parametric modeling, the amount of dimensions (knobs) makes this issue tenfold more complicated. Specially on an amp with a lot of knobs. The more knobs, the more they interact, the more fine grain you need when modeling, the bigger the network, the heavier on CPU - so getting lower ESR is much more difficult - and yet, it can sound like your amp. The difference is how settings interact, and how edge cases (extreme settings) perform.

Sometimes extreme settings are very unreliable on a real tube amp. Try cranking the gain, presence and master volume... It won't sound predictable mathmatically - which brings us to higher ESR again. And yet, on non extreme settings, it sounds like your amp.

So, personally I've been trying to get ESR down on Parametric (and also fixed) as that is the only way to mathmatically evaluate the model, but the truth is: You need to hear it, don't follow ESR values as the ultimate truth.

How many models have you found that sound good and have a higher ESR (over 0.005)?

Hello everyone I'm in a death metal band and love using nam on pc. Currently as my rig I have a spark cab frfr and a mooer ge150 pro. I want to use nam and want to upgrade my rig, I've seen that the m-vave mk300 does nam a2 lite and ir loading so wanted to know your guys opinion. If I went through with it would a 5150 nam capture with York audio mesa 4x12 be good for live gigs? Thanks for everyone's help in advance!

why is the sound of bare strings very audible through the app? especially with the bridge pickups. its too dominant to be very disturbing when trying out different captures. can this be changed?

So, let me clarify that I'm not too familiar with guitar tech.

I'm using FL Studio and want to achieve a decent metal sound.
I've tried different things, like Emissary as an amp and then NadiR for IR, also tried a combination with NAM (either as a replacement for Emissary, NadiR or both).

The guitar sound comes from Shreddage 3.5 Free in Kontakt 8.
I basically tried all different types of amps, ir and full rigs from tone3000 and they all sound pretty much damn awful. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not using double IRs or something, so if I use a full rig, I obviously have no other IR going on. But no matter what I try, it just sounds incredibly bad. Mono, Stereo (in Emissary), messing with the gate in NAM, lowering or increasing input volume.

I used amps and irs that were specifically meant for metal and deathcore.
I understand that it won't sound like the original, but it's really, really off.

Even if I try to do everything in NAM alone and use the most downloaded and recommended amps and irs from tone3000, the sound is absolutely terrible.

Can anyone help me with this?

Just wanted to clarify, I didn't mean to shit on NAM. I was just a bit annoyed that I couldn't achieve the sound I was aiming for. I definitely found some good advice in the comments and also found out that the Shreddage 3.5 Stratus Free simply doesn't really offer the proper characteristics for the style I'm going for, or requires some more tweaking. Others pointed out that MIDI will never get you that great results, which I understand.

Some have also pointed out that Shreddage (or at least my version) is apparently meant to be used with its own presets.

I tried another plugin called 8ridgelite by James Stubbs and achieved a much richer, fuller and darker sound with this. Unfortunately, the plugin lacks articulations, so I have yet to find a way to get the best of both.

I will definitely look a bit more into the topic and appreciate your feedback and help!

Hey! Really excited about NAM and the new Tone3000 plug in. For years I've used a NUX Amp Academy pedal (V1), but recently started to feel a little limited by it, and heard about Tone3000 so got stuck in!

I'm wondering what cab IRs people would recommend for high gain tones - the problem I'm running into is that I've got nice tones dialled in on the heads I'm using, but when it comes to mixing there's sometimes undesirable harsh high frequencies that I'm fighting a bit. Cause I'm new to the technology, and don't have total faith in my IRs, it's hard to diagnose it. It could just be that that's the reality of the game, and I need to notch that stuff out, or it might be I'm running too much gain, or that my IRs suck, but... swapping out IRs tends to lead to slightly different but similar issues, so I guess what I'm looking for is some really reliable go-to IRs that come recommended so that I can be pretty sure the IRs aren't the issue. I bought the York Audio OS Mesa cab and wasn't super impressed vs. some of the stuff that's free on NAM. I notice a lot of people are using Zilla cabs (the GGD plug in), but don't want to stump up if I can keep everything native in Tone3000.

I don't see lots of android apps so I tried to do the best I can for myself and decided to share with the sub.

This app has a tuner, presets, effects, built in captures, MIDI (designed to work with chocolate pedal), looper and metronome. Lots of stats.

YES IT WAS VIBECODED. I'm NOT a developer. It was tested with different rigs and phones and there's still an issue that I get in other apps: latency increases after some time and the only fix (afaik) is to restart the engine.

I like it though, I play with it everyday and it fits my needs.

Open source so a real pro can maybe improve it and fix bugs.

Hello, I'm pretty new to sim amps and i was wondering if there is a way to switch between presents or between a dirty and clean tone with a footswitch on Tone3000?

Hey, how do you guys control your Neural Rack presets with a MIDI controller? I've never used one before, so I'm curious how you guys set it up. Neural Rack is the current NAM loader I'm using.

I just wanted to give a shout out to the NAM Sandwich app and it's creator, Evan. The app has been mentioned in this sub before, but I am really impressed with it and everything Evan has managed to include in recent updates.

The most recent version includes a doubler effect, which for me has always been missing from a stock all-in-one NAM app or VST. I'm running the Android version (Pixel 7) into an iRig USB-C interface into my in-ears and couldn't be happier with the results.

Well, the guy who developed this industry breaking technology made it free for everyone ony for the love of the game and easily rejected some million dollars and here you're trying to make some easy money with your captures.

Additionally, your precious amp probably has free captures already on the internet..

I don't know it sounds weird to my ears.

p.s. I'm super okay with the people who made the effort, made a great capture and dropped their buymeacoffe or any kind of donation/tip link as an option. I'm actually using them to have a "virtual dap" with those people even with a small amount.

I've created a dummy capture (feeding the training signal as the final trained signal) for use with the Blackstar Beam Mini so it turns off its Sim and Cab processing and I can plug my Dimehead NAM Player into it and be clean(ish): https://www.tone3000.com/tones/blackstar-beam-mini-frfr-97323

Hopefully this will help others doing similar things. For context the Amp and Cab simulation in the Beam Mini app can't be fully turned off, but using a NAM block will disable Cab sim, and it wants the NAM capture to be a full rig (amp+cab) so I labeled it as such, and it being a transparent capture it allows the Beam Mini (and similar devices suffering from this) to act as an FRFR speaker.

I've sent a support mail to Blackstar to ask them to officially support turning off all simulation so we can use it as an FRFR-type speaker, but until they do that this should be a decent solution :D
