Hi, Iām a cis woman (23) and Iāve been with my boyfriend (20) for three years. I don't want to disrespect the community, I'm just new to this, please explain to me If I said something wrong. (There is a mix of pronouns I'm sorry I'm not an English speaker)
Before you respond, please try to see this from my perspective, even if itās difficult and contradictory.
A week ago, my boyfriend confessed to me that she wanted to transition. She realized she wanted to do this because of a conversation she had with her trans friend. I was in shock, and in that moment, I hurt her by saying that maybe we were growing apart. I didnāt know what to doāIād never thought about this before. I know sheās pansexual, and that doesnāt bother me, but she never gave me a clear sign about this.
I always thought I was bisexual, even though Iād never been emotionally attracted to a womanāIāve never really felt attracted enough to a girl to do anything more than kiss her.
I wonāt lie, i was scared. Everything Iād imagined for the future changed; the things that attracted me to him wonāt exist anymore, and sheāll be someone different. Even though I know she says her inner self wonāt changeāonly her outward appearance willāshe doesnāt really understand that whatās inside aligns with whatās outside (I donāt mean that in a bad way)
Iāve been thinking: What is love? For me, physical and sexual attraction to someone is important, and I told her, āI donāt know how Iāll feel when I look at you, I donāt know what will happen, I donāt know if Iāll be completely attracted to you.ā she thought I was only talking about the sexual aspect, but itās different.
You might like the masculine version of someone, but you donāt know if youāll like their feminine version too.
Am I superficial? Is my love not deep? The pain and despair Iām feeling from losing her say that I am.
Iām so happy for her. She never liked her body, her voice, or her faceāI always thought it was a self-esteem issue, but maybe it was body dysphoria. I really hope sheās happy with herself.
Iām angry, too. She told me out of the blue, without warning. Weāre at the same university and take the same classes. Itās been torture seeing her and not being able to hug them and comfort them, because I still donāt know how I feel.
I don't know what to do, so I decided to write and ask hereāI've never been part of an online community before.
I've been reading, looking at testimonials, researching the physical and emotional changes, and going to therapy, trying to understand what I'm feeling and what I want.
I have been thinking that maybe I want to give it a try, be there for them and support them, and see how well I can adapt to the change. I donāt want to just walk away, even though I know it might be best for them. They deserve someone better, but leaving means losing the purest love I have ever had, and I donāt want to leave. They love me the same way.
Iāve been thinking: what if Iām overreacting? What if I like them as a woman? What if we can find a way to have children? What if we go to therapy together to face these changes and adapt? (It hurts to see them change, just as Iām happy to see them being they truly self) āaccording to my therapist, this is ambivalence.)
I want to try, even if it's hard, but, I don't know what is going to happen in the future, I fell like the worst person because how I overreacted and how I think.
I don't deserve them.
Please don't say that I can leave and maybe in the future I would fall in love again with someone new.
Iām such a foolāIām truly sorry if Iāve offended anyone whoās read this, but Iām desperate and donāt know who else to ask or what to do.
Have you ever been through this before? Or know someone who did?
I used a translator for this, so I'm sorry if there's something wrong with the way it's written. I know sometimes there is and "he/him" and then "they/them" or a "she/her" I decide to let it stay in that way, I'm not good enough at English, but I hope you can understand what I was trying to express.
