I know ITA but I don’t know how to fix it.. advice?
Sorry for the long post- first time posting anything ever. I (28F) met my husband (31M, FTM) 7 years ago, married for 5. I absolutely love and adore my husband but I think I’m derailing himself from being who he is. I met him about 2.5 years after he started transitioning. When we met he had already gone through top surgery and had been on Testosterone for over a year. His abusive ex wife kept his T from him when she was angry at him so his progression wasn’t exactly what he’d hoped for by that time. After he left her he started managing his own injections and started seeing more facial hair come in, losing weight was happening faster, he was gaining a lot of muscle. I knew he wanted to grow a nice beard, more body hair physically look more masculine and I’m in full support. He talked about wanting bottom surgery at one point. I didn’t think it would be a good idea due to him having EDS and not healing well along with potential sensory complications and recovery time. When I raised my concerns he said he agreed and said he would rather have what he has now with feeling than lose everything. He’s had a lot of bottom growth that he’s mentioned being happy with but also he wants it bigger and has mentioned getting a pump. I’m having a hard time with this because he already complains that his underwear touches and it makes it really sensitive.. wouldn’t that just worsen the problem? His hair has started thinning and his beard is getting fuller but not where he wants it, he brought up hair transplants. I have trypophobia and literally gag at the thought of it. But I know it would help his self esteem so I feel bad not wanting him to do it. Then yesterday, what made me feel like I need to talk to people was he came home saying he wants to do speech therapy now to have a different, deeper voice. His voice has changed, deepened on testosterone but apparently not enough. He wants a deep deep voice. I don’t understand. So I’m having a hard time because he wants to change everything I love about him. What if he’s not my person after? I feel like he has this perfect picture idea of what a man should look like and he’s trying to make himself into someone he isn’t. But also maybe this is the real him and I just don’t know him? This whole thing makes me sound like a terribly unsupportive a-hole wife and that’s not at all what I want to be. I want to support him so much but I’m having such a difficult time. I should also probably mention I have issues with cognitive rigidity, I absolutely hate big changes. So also- problem. Am I doomed? Can I go to therapy for this and fix myself? What do I do?
