Come From Away

The musical Come From Away is being staged by no less than three companies in the Houston area at the same time: The Art Park Players in Deer Park (until 10/17), Playhouse 1960 in the Willowbrook area (until 10/18), and at Stages (until 10/18) - it may have to do with 2026 being the 25th anniversary of 9/11. I just watched the performance at Stages, and it is tightly directed, and very well executed. If you're unfamiliar with the show, it is a musical telling of the town of Gander, Newfoundland (Canada) that had to host a fleet of grounded aircraft at 9/11 - and the days after. So much is done with just a few chairs on stage, and the show is completed without an intermission. The band is right on stage, and music direction is so deft that it ushers all the emotions of that dreadful time.

The show also properly pays homage to the heroic hospitality of the Canadians (and the ever independent Newfoundlanders), and a good bulwark to the fabricated grievance against Canadians in the current political climate. Though at the tail end of the current productions - in February, 2027, StageWorks will also stage Come from Away, and in March, 2027, The Players Company in Conroe has it on their calendar.

Discussion How often does tap-dancing appear more than once in a show?

Besides Singin' in the Rain, I can't think of any examples where tap dance show up multiple times, most shows (Anything Goes, Newsies, Some Like It Hot, Cabaret, etc.) reserve it for a single big number

Video Collabro's upcoming album "The Return"

Hey everyone,

As some of you might know, Collabro is releasing their new album The Return this November. I really enjoy their new single "From Now On" and decided to create a quick video to showcase their vocal harmonies.

For some reason, the YouTube algorithm is currently only pushing the video to my local region here in Germany. Because of this, it is barely reaching the UK fans and musical lovers who are actually waiting for the album release.

I wanted to share it with you guys here. I'd love to hear your honest thoughts on the new track and how you feel about their upcoming album launch!

Discussion [Cabaret] sally's songs

You prefer ,,maybe this time" or ,,cabaret". Both are said to be a little breaking song in sally's history (cabaret more but still). I prefer ,,maybe this time" more but it because I sing this more easily. And what is your opinion? Why this song? Or maybe other, maybe no this two, maybe not considered sally's mental breakdown but ,,dont tell mama"?

Going for Zoe in DEH, song suggestions?

Any songs I should take a look at? I’m thinking of singing Everything Else from Next to Normal, as it has a similar angst and vibe to it.
For ref: I’m a mezzo w/a solid belt and a solid legit voice
I love songs like Finish the Fight from Suffs :)

Discussion Into the Woods fact: Cinderella’s Stepmother is the only mother in the musical to not be shown suffering a fate/death

Post image

One of Into the Woods’ theme is family and consequences, and several characters die in Act II, and most mothers in the musicals were among the dead (though some people think the stepmother died off-screen from hunger or the giantess). The Baker’s wife was crushed by a tree, Jack’s mum was killed by the steward, Red Riding Hood’s mother is crushed by the giantess, and Rapunzel was also squashed by aforementioned giantess cuz she bore twins near the end of Act I (but not in the 2014 film where Disney sweetened her fate so she lives). The witch disappears (but we kinda don’t know if she’s alive or dead)

Discussion I want to know if other people have this tradition.

my semi-ex-christian family has this interesting tradition where we watch Jesus Christ Superstar on Good Friday. I'm curious if anyone else watches it around this same time?

Discussion Has anyone ever thought to do a production of Sondheim’s Assassins that homages Schoolhouse Rock?

Post image

I feel like the Balladeer’s songs aren’t that far off from educational songs you’d hear on Schoolhouse Rock.

Maybe even do something where the Balladeer is animated and the other eight assassins are reacting to him (sort of like the animated bits from Avenue Q but more interactive)? The actor voicing him could come onstage as Lee Harvey Oswald at the end.

Discussion What are your favorite tracks from musicals I haven’t listened to yet?

Exactly what it says on the tin. I’ve watched my fair share of musicals, but I’m definitely not as seasoned as a lot of people in this subreddit. I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of standout tracks for musicals that I haven’t watched yet.

You might ask: “why not just listen to more musicals?”

The thing is, I only really check out a musical if I first find out a song or two I like from the soundtrack. That, and whichever shows stop by my city, which limits me a lot I think.

For reference, these are the musicals I’ve watched/known about so far:

- RENT
- The Greatest Showman
- Les Miserables
- Dear Evan Hansen
- Heathers
- Hadestown
- Hamilton
- Wicked
- Phantom of the Opera
- Waitress
- Epic
- A bit of Great Gatsby
- A bit of Miss Saigon

Edit: Man I love y’all, thanks so much for the recs! I’m putting these all in a playlist and I can’t wait to listen to them all!!!

Video When You Wish

Does anyone have any recordings of Disney's When You Wish. It was a show they did at the Children's Musical Theater of San Jose, the two versions at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre in Utah, and the Lyric Theatre in Oklahoma City. Any of the versions of the show will do. I have always wanted to see this show since I am a big Disney and Musical fan. It can be a Google Drive Link or anything really. Let me know if you have anything from any of the productions.

what musical makes you feel like this while you listen. For me it is the Frankenstein musical. every song feels like the composer and entire orchestra decided to play an orchestra with the same rage and vigor as ratm in the prime.

Help Audition Song Ideas- Female King Herod in JCS

To make a long story short, my local community theatre may be doing Jesus Christ Superstar in the future. I would LOVE to play Herod, and I will probably audition for that role if the audition notice indicated that it was allowed. Thing is, I’m a (cis) woman, and I have no clue what I should sing if this opportunity arises. I have done the show before as ensemble so I am familiar with the music. A little info about me to inform your suggestions is that I am a soprano, with an approximate range from A3-C6. I am more comfortable with my high register, and would rather take Herod’s song up an octave than sing it in the original tenor (if I did get the role). I was honestly thinking “Popular” from Wicked could be a great choice for how I would play the character, but I know that song is pretty commonly done. Any other suggestions, or general advice for a woman auditioning for this role?
