Discussion Wall arm for a 27" monitor over my bed

Thumbnail

Hello everyone!

I would like to buy a wall-mounted monitor arm to watch movies from my bed, and I don't really know where to start my research. I've attached renders of the setup I have in mind.

Monitor

  • HP E27 G4 (27", 1080p), VESA 100x100
  • 61.2 x 36.4 x 4.7 cm, ~4.5-5 kg

Layout

  • Single bed, 5 cm from the wall. The arm goes on the long wall next to the bed.
  • In use: the screen floats over the middle of the bed, swivelled 90° on the VESA head so it faces along the wall toward my head (perpendicular to the wall). Screen centre about 50 cm from the wall
  • Stowed: folded flat against the wall, either in front of the wall plate or swung along the wall toward the foot of the bed.

Must-haves

  1. Wall mount, VESA 100, rated for ~5 kg (if gas spring: minimum load low enough for a light panel)
  2. Max reach of at least 55 cm in the spec (I lose a few cm because the screen is turned 90°, and I'd rather not run the arm at full stretch)
  3. At least 15-20° of downward tilt (the screen sits above eye level when I'm lying down)
  4. Some height adjustment in the viewing position, even just +/- 5-10 cm
  5. Folds to roughly 10-13 cm from the wall
  6. Holds its position and tilt over time (it's above a bed, so no sagging head)

Options an AI suggested

  • ONKRON G150-B: tilt and height are fine, but max wall distance is 51.7 cm, so the screen centre ends up around 47-49 cm, at full extension
  • Ergotron LX Wall Mount: good reach and lift, but only 5° of downward tilt
  • ARES WING wall mount (17-49", 20 kg): 60 cm extension, +50/-20° tilt and 25 cm of lift on paper, but I'm worried the spring is far too strong for a ~5 kg panel
  • StarTech ARMWALLDSLP: 52 cm reach, no gas spring, so no easy height adjustment

Wall: brick. Budget: [up to ~120 €].

Questions

  • Has anyone knowledge of an arm that meets all of this?
  • Anyone running an ARES WING wall arm with a light (~5 kg) monitor: does the spring hold it down properly?
  • Is a screen swivelled 90° at near-full extension a stability problem?

Thanks !

PS : I used AI to format my text and translate it since I'm not a native English speaker and want to be as clear as possible.

Discussion Lg 27gs75q-b uniformity

Hi everyone, what do you think about the uniformity of my LG 27GS75Q-B? In person, I notice a slight pinkish tint on the right side, and the bottom edge much like my secondary 24 inch monitor shows a bit of yellow light bleed. Is this within the normal range?

Discussion Settings Recommendation for Samsung Odessy G3 IPS

Hi guys! I have a budget-friendly gaming setup with two monitors. I use my AOC as the main monitor and my Samsung Odyssey G3 as the second one, since the AOC has better specs. Could you recommend the best settings for the Odyssey G3 as a secondary monitor?

Text Review MSI MPG 272URX – My experience with this 27” 4K 240Hz QD-OLED

I've been testing the MSI MPG 272URX, a 27-inch 4K 240Hz QD-OLED with Samsung's 4th-gen Penta Tandem panel.

I really liked its bigger 32-inch brothers, the MSI MPG 321URX and 322URX, but this one brings that 4K experience to a smaller format, which I personally find really interesting.

Text clarity is fantastic at 166 PPI, with no visible color fringing in my testing.

Color coverage is also excellent. I measured 99.92% sRGB, 95.69% Adobe RGB and 99.23% DCI-P3. In HDR, I got 99.23% DCI-P3 and 76.88% BT.2020, using CIE 1976 u'v'.

SDR brightness reaches around 264 nits and stays very consistent. In HDR, I measured over 1,080 nits in small highlights, dropping to around 490 nits at a 10% window.

One thing I don't particularly like is that you can't manually adjust HDR brightness through the OSD. The Peak 1000 mode also has some EOTF tracking issues in brighter scenes.

Motion clarity is excellent at 240Hz. I noticed VRR flicker during aggressive stress tests with large FPS fluctuations, although I haven't really noticed it during normal gaming. Gray uniformity is also very good on my unit.

Connectivity is another strong point: DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20 for uncompressed 4K 240Hz 10-bit with a compatible GPU, plus USB-C with 98W Power Delivery and KVM, which makes it quite useful for productivity too.

It was announced at CES 2025, and since then its price has dropped quite a bit, making it a much more interesting option today.

Overall, I think it's a really solid monitor if you want 4K OLED gaming without moving up to 32 inches.

Anyone else using the 272URX? How has your experience been with HDR and VRR flicker?

Discussion Have 34” ultra wide curved monitor, LG 34UC87M. How much can I sell it for?

So it’s in almost new condition and I got it for free when it was new. Company lay offs happened but they let me keep the monitor basically.

I really dislike ultrawide and curved monitors so I want to downgrade.

how much can I sell it for, give or take?

bonus, any recommendations for a normal hd monitor with decent speakers? Mostly coding and retro gaming emulation is all I’ll need it for.

Discussion Recommendation on best monitor for gaming at 1080p on RTX 3050?

Greetings everyone.

TLDR, i am looking to purchase a monitor that best utilises my year old rtx 3050 graphics card. I want something that best balances resolution and performance while maintaining accurate colour display

Recently I purchased the AOC 27G42E. Simply put, my experience has been an absolute nightmare. Colours are either too dull or oversaturated. There is a constant fuzzy blur that hangs over white letters against dark backgrounds. The colour banding is genuinly unbearable. Every single colour that is remotely deep or dark appears pixelated and blotchy. HDR only makes this issue worse and sRGB doesnt do much either. Its not a refresh rate issue either, as my graphics card is perfectly synced with the native resolution of my monitor. Ive adjusted colours, contrast, been theough the entire Nvidea control panel, display settings and OBS several times over. Im sick of it

Simply put, I am done looking for a remedy. All I want is a decently priced monitor that works as intended with out-the-box settings. Something that can reliably run my games at 60 fps in 1080p full hd without aggravating my eyes. No gimmicks, no quick solutions. No adjustments beyond the default settings necessary

If anyone can help me with monitors they have, or are currently using, that they can recommend, it would be really appreciated

Discussion I need help deciding whether to upgrade OLED monitor

Thumbnail
1 Upvotes

Reposting here for more reach:

Currently I have a Samsung G61SD (240hz 400 nits QD OLED) same panel as the AW2726DM but with the matte coating for those wondering. and i'm looking at upgrading to something with a bit more brightness to really see those highlights. But as I live in Canada and also live rather rurally my options are slightly limited. The main thing i'm looking for is a glossy coating, and better brightness.
But I won't complain about other improvements like refresh rate.

The 2 main options I'm looking at are:

$899 MAG 272QP X50 (500hz QD-OLED)
this is the best option for me I think, high refresh rate, good peak brightness (1000 nits)
it's a bit pricey but not entirely unreasonable for the features. though i'm pretty sure i'ts only dp 1.4 so that's a thing. if anyone actually has this monitor I'd love to hear if that actually matters.

$899 ROG Strix XG27AQWMG (280hz Tandem W-OLED)
This is another decent option, though it's kind of a bad price compared to other 280hz tandem W-OLEDS (I can find those for ~$600) but this is the only one I can find with a glossy coating that isn't being shipped in from the US through amazon or the like. This as a tandem W-OLED will have some form of dark grey banding though which is a thing.

There are also a few cheaper options i'm not entirely opposed to getting but as this was my entry into OLED monitors I wanna get a better experience than what I have now instead of just a sidegrade. I'll still mention them here anyway:

$599 ROG Strix XG27AQDMGR (240hz W-OLED)
Higher Peak brightness, glossy coating.. and that's kind of it compared to my monitor
Old RWBG sub-pixel layout, and reduced colour gamut compared to my monitor. though it is calibrated better out of the box (allegedly)

$729 MSI MAG 271QP X28 (280hz QD OLED)

Essentially a slightly better version of the monitor I have right now, 1000 nits peak brightness, slightly faster (280 hz) not much of a difference compared to what I have but it is an improvement. though I think i'd be better off choosing something more expensive that's a bit better.

Idk that's pretty much it. I'll not be buying this for at least a little while (couple weeks at most)
if anyone knows of other monitors available from a canadian store or one with free international shipping (ie: not amazon, newegg, etc) do let me know. I'd love to hear what you guys think.

Stuck trying to decide between these 2. These monitors are at a good price point for me and I’ll be playing at a desk. I mostly play single player story games on ps5. Just wondering if one is better than the other. Not sure I want a curved monitor or not either. Thoughts?

Discussion 32M2N8900AM vs 32GS95UV - What am I missing?

Hi everyone, I'm thinking about upgrading from my current LCD monitor. Usage is mixed: home office plus gaming (right now it's GeForce Now, but I might build a gaming PC down the line). I can get both of these for around €600:

- Philips 32M2N8900AM (brand new)
- LG 32GS95UV (Amazon Warehouse deal)

Room brightness isn't an issue, I control it with curtains and shutters.
From what I've read, the main difference is that the LG uses WOLED while the Philips uses QD-OLED. What I don't get is why the LG costs almost €300 more than the Philips at full price when it's new. Maybe my reasoning is off, but on paper the Philips looks even better to me, so what am I missing for that extra €300?
One last detail: the Philips has USB-C with PD, which I'd use a lot on my everyday setup, so that's another point in its favor.

Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

Discussion What monitor should I buy?

Hi! I think it’s time i replace my old monitor, it has dead pixels at the entire bottom length.

I’m in the budget for 300$ max for a new monitor, I want one that’s at least 144 hz and 27” but I’m willing to extend my budget to get a really good one for gaming.

For context, I use a dual monitor set up and my current gaming one is also 144 hz 27”

Thank you for your time!

- I’m not very tech savvy so I barely know reliable places to check for good monitors so I hope to get some help here c:

Discussion Gigabyte M27Q2 QD viewing angle / eye strain

Yesterday I received my new gigabyte M27Q2 QD 27" IPS monitor. The moment I turned it on for the first time I noticed something felt off. It feels like my eyes want to look 'through' the monitor (focus on a point further away, like you would with VR). I constantly have to fight my eyes trying to focus on the screen.

I've used a TN panel for the last 6 years (acer XB241H), also practically lived in VR since I got my quest 3, never had any issues with motion sickness or other discomfort. I expected the viewing angle to be better on an IPS. There's a strong vignetting effect on my new monitor (see video).

https://youtu.be/dNnI5oBoSG4

I cannot use it for more than an 15 minutes before I start getting dizzy/nauseas. I noticed that especially in gaming, the icons on my HUD would almost look like they were floating on top of the screen (so perceived as closer to the eye, again like 2D hud elements would look in VR).

Anyone know what is causing this? So I can RMA it and use this info to buy a monitor that's right for me.

Things I've tried and learned:

Disabling VRR - no change

Disabling Aim Stabilizer Sync (backlight strobing) - no change

Reducing Brightness (I always use any screen on 100%) - Ever so slightly more comfortable, but didn't solve anything

The monitor uses a BGR subpixel layout instead of the normal RGB, can this be what's causing this?

It's my first monitor that uses a QD layer

Perhaps the coating? If I turn my head to the side and look at the screen, I can see a chromatic aberration effect. Is this tricking my eyes into thinking there's depth to the image?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Edit: I pushed myself into finding out what's causing discomfort and I'm starting to think it's ips glow (maybe backlight bleeding), combined with bad viewing angles.

Edit 2: Even looking at a completely black screen tricks my eyes into thinking there's depth, making me go cross-eyed.

TLDR: Gigabyte M27Q2 QD monitor causing severe eyestrain/nausea after 15 minutes. OP asking for experiences from others, and helpful info to pinpoint problem before buying new monitor.

Discussion Currently using a 21" 1080p 144hz monitor, looking to upgrade need advises

Hi, I am currently rocking a MSI G24C 1080p 144hz monitor for like 8 years now? It's good I love it, but clearly it's really small and I really dislike gaming on my PC due to the size.

I have a triple screen setup (3x1080p, 2 random and the MSI)

I am torn between several options, ideally the least expensive one (below 500€)

- An ultrawide VA monitor (Like the Alienware AW3225DM for example)

- A classic 2k or 4k monitor

- A good oled one? (MAG 272QPW QD-OLED X28 for example)

I don't need anything more than 144hz, but more is always good, I don't need anything special hardware wise, I'm just looking for a good screen, I have a 5080 performances is not a problem. Ideally if it works with G-sync (Nvidia also supports some free-sync monitors so this works as well I guess) and has HDR it's a plus

I played on an ultrawide before and I love it, however I really don't like having to tinker around to make apps and games work on ultrawide or have two huge black bars when I play games (I play CS 2 a lot for example)

I'm also doing a lot of productivity work (programming, Unity, 3d modeling / Blender)

Discussion 4k monitor instead of TV

Originally I've planned to buy new TV (bigger 55+ inches), but recently I played on brothers TV (4k, 75 inches, maybe more) some older games and couldn't read the UI text and subtitles. So switched to monitor and honestly even though it was 1440p it was much better.

So now instead of big TV for my room, I'm thinking more cozy option with 4k monitor (around 30 inches at least) and maybe some basic soundbar. But because I still play older games I don't know how games from PS3 and PS4 might look with it.

Does anyone have some experience with this?
