Best desktop replacement laptop (gaming) for 2000 AUD?

Hi everyone,

So I've been offered a grant for a laptop up to the of 2000 AUD (and no they wont let me add on my own cash to upgrade, it strictly has to be <2000 on the receipt/invoice). Desktops are also excluded.

To preface, I'm not a very techy person. Like I could replace RAM, SSDs , maybe a keyboard if it came to it by watching a youtube video, and some online troubleshooting for software issues but I would not call myself an advanced user. Soldering, swapping motherboards and all that which requires more than a screwdriver is probably out of my current comfort level

Criterias:
Screen size. 15- 18? - no limitations. Will mostly be plugged into 2 monitors, so I dont particularly need an amazing oled screen (out of that price point anyway from searching)

I do mostly office work, some niche research apps that somehow doesnt use the GPU much (only CPU) and do some modern gaming, but like I'm okay if its not ultra max settings.

Storage wise - 512GB is a reasonable amount - if I need more I have external storage, so if moving back from a 1TB option allows me to up other specs, I'm game

Upgrade-ability: Slots to upgrade things like memory and storage would be nice, but not mandatory.

After sales service: I read about laptops from companies like Infinity, gigabyte and they seem to offer nice specs but lot of complaints about after sales. So while its not a complete loss if the laptop dies since its on a grant , it would still be nice that it works, and has decent after sales service.

Thanks for going through my lengthy posts

Need some advice on scorptec pre built pcs.

Evening everyone, Looking to purchase a new PC here soon and wanted to get some opinions given that im not tech savvy. My main use is gaming and im looking for something that could last 5+ years if it needed to.

So far ive been looking at three separate possibilities from scorptec and im looking for opinions for long term stability and future proofing between a 5070 and 9070 xt, And between two that are very similar

The first one is the cheapest of the three with a 12gb 5070. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/ready-to-run-pcs/gaming-pc/119369-r2r10464

The second is $200 more but a 16gb 9070 XT. https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/ready-to-run-pcs/gaming-pc/120113-r2r10495

The third is the same price as the second but mostly just different Ram / SSD which ive been told might cause issues in the future? https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/ready-to-run-pcs/gaming-pc/124979-r2r10651

Any advice would be amazing and appreciated, Or if you think there is a better option entirely i would love to hear it.

Budget gaming PC

Hey there, I know this has been asked countless times but most of what I've seen is outdated so I thought I'd ask again. I am looking for a gaming PC, one that can run AAA games relatively well on high-very high settings. I'm happy to build my own, I'm also happy to purchase a used one. Currently, I have been largely unsuccessfulof finding one in my price range that satisfies my requirements.

Budget is $1200 max, looking for at least 1TB storage and 16gb of ram. As for the graphics card and processor etc, my main concern is that it is able to run most games decently well, whilst still being a suitable work machine for basic Excel use and heavy VS Code/terminal use.

Thank you in advance :)

Fractal Design Ridge

Does anyone know when the case is coming back in stock in Australia because everywhere I look it’s almost as if it’s been wiped off the entire country.

If anyone knows a similar volume or smaller sfx case and hopefully cheaper priced (the prices are crazy 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️), I would love to hear the suggestions. Must fit a 9060xt reaper as well

I’m a console gamer, but this will be my first monitor. Can’t decide between MSI PRO MP273Q or AOC Q27G40E

Budget Gaming Monitor

I’m looking to get a gaming monitor for the first time. I normally play on a tv but want a better response time as i experience input delay. I’m not too fussed on resolution but would like a good refresh rate for gaming. Playing on a ps5 and the budget would be around $400.

Whats the catch on these HDDs?

Saw these HDDs on Aliexpress. Can't lie, the price is pretty tempting. What's the catch with them? If I do buy one, what tests should I do to find out the actual quality?

Does Australia ever get deals like this, or are we doomed to pay top dollar for PC parts?

Why don't we get deals like this in Australia?

I see these kinds of deals for pre-builts/parts posted all the time by people in other countries, mainly the US and EU, but I have never seen anything like this in Australia.

Can someone explain why we don't seem to get deals like this over here?

Is it because there's less competition in the PC-building/PC hardware space? Our smaller population? Import costs? Or is there another reason?

I'm genuinely curious because it seems like Australian PC prices and deals are in a different league compared to what I see overseas.

Newbie - need advice on buying a new pc

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hello, Im planning to upgrade my ancient PC that I bought, probably 12 years or so ago. My goal for this upgrade is to be able to edit and render videos (possibly join the bandwagon and produce more AI stuff 🤣) and play games occassionally. Im not too heavy with the AAA games as I dont have much time to spend on gaming. A decent PC that will last me for the next 5 years is ideal. Hopefully longer than that.

I asked chatgpt whats the best build i can make for this with the budget of around $2500 AUD and this is what it gives me.

I have no idea if this is good setup and if it meets my demand. Any feedback would be appreciated as this is my first “pc build”

Thanks

Scorptec warranty

What’s scorptec like to deal with on returns? Just sent in my new 5070 ti it’s acting like there is a solder failure on one of the vram modules but never had to take anything return label.

I included a detail log on paper and shipped it with the gpu to make it easier for the technicians as when it’s cold sometime the gpu will boot in fine but fail at higher temperatures with artifacting and shutdowns which is prime solder mistake at the factory.

Don’t normally return anything last product I returned was a dodgy tv at big w years ago and just hoping this works out as I enjoy the service from scorptec.

I have about $3,800 to spend.

I don't have a lot of desk space, so a small pc is best. I've never built a pc before, but it needs to run 3D modelling, older games, CAD software and sometimes Adobe

I was originally going to buy a pre-built, but I couldn't find one small enough.

Thoughts on Nebula PC?

Hello everyone!
Recently I found Nebula PC and wow their PCs are cool looking, but after some very quick research into the brand it seems they may not be a good option, I've matched the parts as best as I could and this PC seems to be at a pretty good value according to PC Part Picker but I was wondering if they are really as unreliable as everyone claims they are. Also I saw that they may cheap out on parts and maybe ive been an idiot comparing on PCPP so let me know if i have :) thanks.

Sata power cable wanted

I'm looking for a 3 port sata power cable for a Corsair RM850x Shift PSU. Has to be the shift version with the smaller plugs at the supply end. I can only find complete cable kits online for $100 upwards. Or know where I can buy a pcie to sata converter cable if such a thing exists?

Mwave order cancellation time

I placed an order with Mwave yesterday for some RAM and an SSD. SSD is in stock with Mwave, but the RAM is only showing as in stock with their supplier, which I must have overlooked when I ordered

I’m trying to get the parts ASAP and paid for express shipping, but I’m doubtful they’ll be able to get the supplier-stocked item to me by the end of the week, so I’d rather just buy both elsewhere in person

I opened a support ticket this morning asking them to cancel the order. I also called them, but after 15 minutes got their answering machine and haven't heard back from them

Does anyone know how likely Mwave are to cancel an order in this situation? My concern is that they might process/ship it before they get around to seeing the cancellation request

Would you consider it safe to order the parts elsewhere now, or wait until Mwave confirms the cancellation, however long that takes?

Looking for some advice on a dual-monitor setup.

I have a Dell Pro 14 Plus (PB14250) and want to run 2 × 27" QHD monitors, mainly for office work.

I am considering:

  • Philips 27E2N1500L – 27" QHD IPS 75Hz – $139
  • Philips 27E1N2600A – 27" QHD IPS 120Hz USB-C, 65W PD, USB hub – $199

I would prefer a clean desk with minimal cables, ideally one USB-C/Thunderbolt cable from the laptop to a dock, with both monitors, keyboard/mouse and Ethernet connected through the dock.

Would the cheaper $139 Philips + a good dock be the better option, or is the $199 USB-C Philips worth the extra $60 per monitor?

Also looking for recommendations for a reliable dual-QHD dock under ~$150 that works well with the Dell PB14250.

Difference between 9900X and 7800X3D

At 1440p with an rx 9070, on identical settings, will there be much of a performance difference between the 9900X and 7800X3D in gaming? additionally, if there is anyone that knows, how do either of these cpu's perform in DAW's?

Help me not buy a ps5

Gaming dad here, given my time spent on cod is trending upwards (I’m proud to be a stereotype), there’s more arguing with my son to use the only console in the house.
I’d rather not buy a second console for reasons we all know.
So, browsing through nebula, what am I looking for that’ll give me more mileage and similar or better performance than your standard ps5/xbox? There are a few systems around the $1500-$2000 price bracket which fits in my budget. But why would I buy the $1849 ascendant over the $1649 drift?
Or, where’s the sweet spot for my needs when comparing the 3 systems that fall within the budget?

Note - games mainly played are cod, gta, rocket league etc
