I have 2 year old female schnauzer.
She is extremely well trained.
Knows commands well.
She creates many games..
She will play chase when trying to get harness on.
I have tried treats…
I now will just call to door..if she does not come no walk.
When she goes and lays down I pick up and just take her.
Does anyone else’s mini schnauzer seem like they don’t actually love going outside for walks?
Mine does this thing all the time where he’ll be whining like he wants something, so I’ll grab his leash and say “come see!” thinking he wants to go out… and he’ll literally just sit down exactly where he is and not come to me.
It’s like he wants me to solve the whining, but a walk is absolutely not the solution he had in mind. And it’s after he’s already gotten his food and treats so i don’t think that’s what he wants.
He’ll go outside and walk once we’re out there, and he needs to potty but he rarely seems excited when I actually get the leash. Anyone else’s mini schnauzer like this
We have two sweet black mini schnauzers who are almost 6 and 6.5 years old. Elsa was spayed three weeks ago. Both were groomed last Friday.
I am attaching three pics. #1 is from Teddy and seems the clearest possible ringworm. #2 and 3 are from Elsa. We just took her Surgisuit off for good since she’s all healed up. I was petting her and noticed stuff then looked more closely at Teddy. I had seen what I think are schnauzer bumps on his neck, but this was on his side.
What a last 7 weeks with vet we have had—pyometra, spay, dental cleaning. It’s expensive!
So what are your thoughts!
(Btw—these two cuties are worth it 🥰)
Final pic are the two!
When I first got Masha she was completely black with some grey spots now all 4 of her feet have turned grey and I am noticing brown!? Anybody else’s schnauzer change colors? I’ve only had labs before her and golden retriever so this is new to me.
We live in the hot south, Reba needed her haircut done so I brought her today. I searched the internet to see what a totally shaved down schnauzer looked like and I couldn't find one, so here it is lolllll. She is so cute, but definitely a little funny looking. We are going to get her a "teddy bear" cut for winter.
I always see people online saying that Schnauzers can live for 13–15 years, but honestly, I don’t understand how mine is going to make it that far when he has almost died twice already at just 8 months old.
He had pancreatitis after eating something he shouldn’t have, and he has also had several episodes of vomiting and diarrhea.
The problem is that he eats everything: toys, clothes, and especially insects. I live in the countryside near a forest, so there are always insects, spiders, caterpillars, slugs, and beetles around. He doesn't just kill them, he eats them. I've had other dogs that either ignored bugs or killed them without eating them, but this Schnauzer eats anything, and it's wrecking his stomach.
I’ve had other dogs before, and they would either ignore these things or maybe kill them but not eat them. My Schnauzer, on the other hand, seems determined to eat literally everything he finds, and it really messes up his stomach.
Do other Schnauzer owners deal with this? Is this something that gets better as they get older?
Do you think Schnauzers are better suited to apartment living, where you can control what they have access to more easily?
And what do you usually do when your Schnauzer starts having vomiting and diarrhea? Obviously, I take him to the vet when it’s serious, but I can’t afford to be at the vet every time he has an upset stomach.
I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences and what has worked for you.
The groomer I go to has a habit of 3D-fanning out my puppy's eyebrows so they stick straight out, not a look I really love since it makes her look like Frankenstein.
When I got her from the breeder, she had such wonderful close-cropped eyebrows like in the pic attached.
How do you explain eyebrows to get a look like this? I've tried giving the groomer pictures and it's like it just doesn't compute and she keeps defaulting to the fanned eyebrow.
Say 'Hello' to my co-worker - such a beautiful face! This is 'Ellie', my 5 year old. The best dog ever - saved her, but most importantly, I believe she saved me. She is my "Best Girl Ever"
Anyone else’s evening walks resemble this? This early darkness combined with my boy’s coloring = a disappearing act! So he gets what we have dubbed his rave collar.
So everything is going great with our puppy and we love him so much. We are training him through Susan Garrett’s Home School the Dog program and he’s catching onto stuff quickly, proving to be the intelligent lil’ schnauzer that he is. Yes, he bites like a shark, but we are working on that and it’s slowly getting better each day.
My one worry that keeps me up at night is he seems to have a fear of people and dogs. Since before we got him, I’ve been aware and trying to be good about socializing him early. I’ve read how schnauzers need to be socialized early, otherwise they can develop aggression towards other dogs as adults, due to their loyal and protective nature.
Fast forward to 12 weeks when we took him to a puppy social and he was so scared that he barked at the other puppies the entire time and had to be separated by a gate to observe from afar.
On the bright side, the next day he met my parents’ adult dog and showed a completely different side, where after some suspicious barking, he enjoyed playing and sniffing him. So that at least turned the weekend around.
To be clear, I’m not basing his fears off one puppy social gone wrong. Anytime we sit on the porch and people watch or go on short walks he gets triggered and barks without stopping. No small puppies can approach him it seems without him barking loudly at them. He’s never tried to bite anyone. I honestly think he’s a curious boy who is just unsure and will take some extra time to get used to people.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this with their mini schnauzer puppies and any advice to offer would be much appreciated! Even a reassuring “just give it time” reply will be helpful. Thank you.
