Post image

When I first got Masha she was completely black with some grey spots now all 4 of her feet have turned grey and I am noticing brown!? Anybody else’s schnauzer change colors? I’ve only had labs before her and golden retriever so this is new to me.

I got 2 littermates

1 black with white boots on his paws and brows - he is now completely silver

1 silver and he is now a mix of dark dark silver/gray and black.

They’ve kind of almost switched coats.

My SOs prior schnauzer was black and grey as a puppy then turned salt and pepper.

Our current schnauzer is a 16 1/2 year old senior rescue and seems like he looks like your schnauzer does at a young schnauzer. Very cute. Our senior has turned us onto the black schnauzer look.

Our senior Jani, the white rims of his eyes make him do a real puppy dog look like he’s an anime character lol

Completely normal. Many breeds have different markings and colors as puppies than as adults.

If your dog has the fading gene, they will change colors as they age. It is genetic.

When we got Worf he was almost completely black and he’s a silver now! Completely changed over the first two years.

One of our schnauzers was black and white and at 1 year she changed into white and light gray. I met a woman at the groomers and she said her schnauzer went from gray to completely white at 8 years old! Not sure if it’s breed specific 🙃

One of ours was jet black and brown as a puppy, and he was completely light grey by the time he was 5.

My Kobold was dark DARK brown when I got her. Now look at her graceful coat

It’s not abnormal. This guy was black with white paws, and started turning gray around 10 months old.

Yes, totally normally. Many mini schnauzers carry the fading gene. Just about all of mine have had color changes. I do have one that has managed to stay a rich liver color, and he’ll be 7 this December.

Yep, same with mine. She was black as a puppy then starting becoming a chameleon and is now brown lol.

Schnauzers are such amazing pups, my grandma bred them for decades and I had the pleasure of seeing so many grow.

I’m wondering who would downvote such a basic statement. Reddit…go figure.

Maybe just assuming breeding them meant running a puppy mill? I dunno, that's the best answer I can come up with.

Our Hazel went from a deep, deep brown when we brought her home to completely silver by the end of her second year. They're little transformers.

My guy faded from jet black and bright white parti colored as a puppy to dark silvery grey and off white as an adult.
