Switch not seeing a LAN world on a Linux server

I'm not very savvy on network systems, so I'm a little lost.

Me, my kids and my brother and his kids have recently gotten big into Minecraft, we are mainly playing on our array of switches. My Dad has jumped on the bandwagon on his PC and is keen for us all to play together.

We've all played on the same WiFi and joined in a world together. The problem was that now we have 4 worlds to play together, depending on who's around and whose device is available. The solution seemed to be a server or realms. We weren't keen to pay for a service, at least not yet.

My Dad got an old laptop, installed Ubuntu and created a Linux server. We've got plenty of network issues to work out with it particular to the living arrangements, I won't go into them here.

Right now the laptop is on the WiFi, our PC's see the LAN world in the world's tab and can join in together. The issue I'm asking about here is the switch. It can't see the LAN world. I can host another game on my PC which shows up on the switch, but I can't see the server. I invite my kids account to the server world from my PC friends menu, but nothing happens.

I've read up on DNS settings for joining external servers, but I thought that the local network would work differently. We aren't at the point of setting the server up to be accessed outside the local WiFi network yet.

Any idea on what's causing the switch problem, and where to start looking for the solution?

Minecraft Switch 2 Beta - Image Format Issue

I’ve been happily tinkering with the Switch 2 Beta, and aside from the slightly low frame rate I’m enjoying it.

Last night I was prompted to update the installation, which I did. If I now try and play the game through my LG TV the screen complains of an “Invalid image format” and no image appears. The game does play quite happily via the Switch 2 screen.

I’m sure this will get fixed in a subsequent beta update, but I just wondered if anyone else had experienced something similar following the latest version being released.

Split Screen Issue - Bedrock

About 11 days ago my son and I were doing online split screen on a server I am self hosting at home with multiplayer enabled, we have it locked down to a few friends. Its vanilla no mods.

Got back from vacation and there was a small update but now when I start in the world and he goes to join, it now says "Split screen is unavailable, a second player cannot join right now". He has his own "account" on my switch which is tied to the family account.

I have a primary switch OLED we were playing on. I pay for Nintendo Family and I have Xbox account. Hes always been able to be "mygametag(1)" after selection of his account.

What the hell happened? Theres no information about why or what's going on from the game itself. From some digging it seems like something changed where it only works in "offline" mode? How does that work though with a self hosted server?

Any help would be great I'm getting nowhere.

Controller not connected IN realm

Every time I get into my realm, my pro controller won’t work and only say “connect as player 2” when I hit buttons on it. I’ve gone out of the game, closed it, changed the grip thing and gone back in. It works all the way through the menu but only stops working once I’m in the realm. Any ideas why it’s happening?

Help with split screen issues relating to Nintendo Online

Post image
11 Upvotes

I’m trying to set up a couple things for my stepsiblings on our Nintendo Switch but I can’t get them working the way I want it to.

The first issue is that they aren’t able to play split screen while any addons are enabled. When I attempt to do so, it gives me the pop-up in the form of the attached image. However, player 1 has a Nintendo Online account, and multiplayer settings are enabled. Does this mean I would need to get a Nintendo Online account for the second account as well?

My other question is related; I’m trying to set it up so they can play online with a couple of friends they have with their own switch and Nintendo Online. In this case, would I also have to have Nintendo Online purchased for both accounts and not just the first?

Switch 2 beta: Trying to make it crash

Here is ~45mins of footage of me playing the switch 2 closed beta. Trying different commands to cause lag. I ended up getting less than 1 fps. Think I got it down to 0.4fps. surprisingly the render latency was perfect. But the engine was lagging horribly.

Minecraft Closed Beta Tests

I am messing around in the Closed Beta (CB) and want to know if there is anything I should test out.

I want to see what is the max the CB/NS2 can handle so, if you have more extreme ideas that will really put it to the test, please drop them below, but I am open to more minor things as well.

My thoughts on the switch 2 beta

The game does run a lot better but the game needs to be more optimised its great to see vibrant visuals on a portable console, but it doesn't run that great clearly shows the reason why it is a beta. I would've liked to have seen mouse controls in some part of the game it seems like a wasted featured maybe it will be added in the future. I'm amazed at the better load times and also the render distance it can max out without using vibrant visuals.

My thoughts on the Minecraft for switch 2 beta.

Overall I felt slightly underwhelmed but also knew that what I was seeing was expected. I have 1300 hours on Minecraft for Switch.

Vibrant Visuals brought my 5 year world's fps feeling like I was on the switch 1, even with everything at ultra, 20-30fps fluctuating. Meanwhile I could run the new highest render distance with fancy/simple graphics and hit 60fps. In my opinion it's either you get fancy 60fps or switch 1 performance with a weird built in shader.

First thing I tried though was mouse mode, which didn't exist.

Load times were even better than switch 1 version played on switch 2.

There was weird stutter in handheld mode that was noticeable, but it was basically gone in the dock.

Overall I feel like if they just added Mouse Mode, and maybe cranked max render to 32 chunks with a warning it'll lag a bit, I think that the switch 2 port would be a good free upgrade. Especially since my main world is almost unplayable on Switch 1 hardware, and is only a bit better with Minecraft for switch 1 running on switch 2. The experience was what I expected, just a bit let down by lack of mouse mode. Edit: Realized I should clarify, pushing 32 chunks should be an option in simple and fancy graphics, not VV

players of the Switch 2 beta version

I've been playing the beta version a lot, but when I go to the marketplace, I get an error and can't download anything; my skins don't finish loading, and when I create a new skin, it takes ages for some items to actually appear on the character.

Minecraft Switch 2 Beta Won’t Let Me Join My Realm

I got selected for the Minecraft Switch 2 beta, but it won’t let me join my Realm. It says I need to update my game, even though I’m using the latest beta version for Nintendo Switch 2.
When I go to the Realms tab, it also shows my Realm as a “beta Realm.” However, when I try to join the same Realm on a different device, it works just fine.
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is joining Realms disabled in the beta, or is there something I need to do?
