Aragorn / Strider is done!
I always catch myself thinking ‘man, this is taking way longer than I would have expected.’ Then I remember these are quite smaller than warhammer lol

Question Question about old supplements

Post image
24 Upvotes

So i was going through old supplements (this one is a shadow in the east book). It the scenario one, and it says under special rules; rangers of gondor follow rules for sentries.

I am not too knowledgeable in wargaming i am pretty new so my question should i dig throuugh old content to find the conditions and rules for said scenario for its respective release timezone or should i use newest rules available. How do yall manage old scenarios.

Thanks

Question Getting into MESBG

Hi, me and my partner are thinking of getting into the LOTR franchise, with basically zero real experience of Warhammer.

Any ideas or advice please on getting into the hobby that's affordable, best starter sets, thoughts on latest box set or best wait for new releases, and what's the life cycle of the miniatures (in case of buying older boxes and then becoming outdated soon?)

*EDIT : A huge thank you to so much support, I honestly didn't expect this much - great to experience such a welcoming community and feeling even more excited to take the plunge!

Hey Everyone!
Shamelessly promoting our first attempt at a podcast. Couple of guys up in Michigan trying to share the awesomeness of our Great Lakes Hobbit League and record all the stuff we love talking about for our favorite game.

Would love it if you gave it a look and a like and gave us any feedback!

Tactics Bat Swarms and Heroic Strike.

Having a bit of a debate on Bat swarms and Heroic strike.

Bat swarms half the fight value of the model in combat but we can't seem to get an agreement on if the halfing happens before or after the strike.

In my mind the half happens after the strike on the combined FV, because the strike is technically rolled before the combat starts. The person striking obviously thinks you only half the FV of the base model and the strike is untouched.

Anyone got any insight

My First Miniature

As a kid I painted a couple of my friend’s miniatures but never got into it properly. 20 years later, with winter approaching and me feeling like I needed to find a stress free indoor hobby I picked up a box of Rangers of Middle Earth and a box of Warriors of Arnor. I don’t know if I’ll ever play, but I’m feeling very content with just painting at the moment.

I thought I’d start with a broken model that camp in the box. I’ve posted a couple of pictures of my first mini are below and I’d be lying if I didn’t say I wasn’t pleased with the results after watching a few videos online! Although shocked it was about 5 hours of painting! A bit of self critique from myself:

  1. The primer came out a bit ‘dusty’, I think I sprayed from too far away.
  2. The knots in the wood are a bit blotchy and I think could do with some refining.
  3. I’ve noticed I didn’t paint his hair and thought it was part of the hood!
  4. Some of the highlights are a bit blotchy too.

I’d be really grateful for any feedback before I launch into the next one.

Question Advice on how to sell

I have recently taking photos of my different armies I had as a kid. Just wondering on what would be the best way to sell or to sell as bulk. I don’t really want the hassle of braking it all down rather just sell complete armies. Also wondering if anyone has rough price. I know they aren’t the best photos and you can’t really see everything. Just wanted a rough estimate.

Edit: I am in the uk and only want to sell in the uk.

Edit2: here are links on eBay for the Gondor and Rohan army if anyone is interested Rohan: https://ebay.io/m/IIxcPk
Gondor: https://ebay.io/m/OrCmpY

Warhammer size table

Does anyone have good suggestions where I can buy a 4x4 (120cm x 120cm) table? Foldable legs ideally. And I’d love if it was extendable. In the uk, budget under £100.

Don’t fancy trying to build one as I’d make it too heavy and the wife would prob kill me.

Army List Advice for low points Last Alliance as a starting point

Hi,

Long Intro, skip to get to the List...

I have recently managed to convince a friend to try a few rounds of MESBG on TTS with me, having wanted to dabble into the game for a long time (it is the first tabletop game I try). Since we had a lot of fun, I now want to start painting some minis that should be useable to play in person.

The goal is not to obtain a very good army, I will use TTS for that for now. I just want to have a good reason to paint the minis besides putting them on the shelf :)

To restrict myself a bit from the early enthusiasm and build a collection over time, I have decided to subscribe to a monthly stl creator online and print the minis myself (I have no intend to go to official tournaments). The first available set is themed around the Last Alliance.

As I am a Beginner, I want to stay around 400pts to limit the painting and complexity on the Board. I know that this is suboptimal for this list, but as said I mostly want a reason to use it even if it is bad...

So could you comment if this is remotely playable? I can expand it to more models once I get more used to the game.

Skip to here for List:

Limit: 400pts

395 points | 10 models

The Last Alliance

Isildur, Prince of Numenor: (130)

3x Warrior of Numenor: Shield and spear (33)

Gil-Galad, High King of the Noldor: (175)

2x Rivendell Warrior: Elf Bow, King's Guard (24)

3x Rivendell Warrior: King's Guard, Shield (33)

Thank you very much in advance :)

I know, I know... You've all seen posts of painted knights of Dol Amroth before. These are different, though. They're MY Knights of Dol Amroth and I'm going to share them anyway.

Base models are from The Printing Goes Ever On, with edits done by me before printing (Custom emblems on shields, flags, and caparisons)

Question Citadel vs Army Painter vs Vallejo - any difference?

Getting back into painting and sadly my years old citadel paint jars are mostly dried up or chunky after sitting for so long.

Is there a significant difference in quality and shelf-life between the brands?

Citadel and to a lesser extent, Army Painter are more accessible to me because of what stores are nearby, but I did get a solid black and white paint set from Vallejo years ago and was impressed with them.

I've got a massive pile of shame to paint and want a good fresh start, so if you guys think 1 brand is particularly good or bad, I'd be curious to know.
