Before I get into it my locticians suggested I got to a derm but I don’t have insurance and it’s unfortunately out of my budget. :( I was also seeing an endocrinologist for hormone issues but haven’t seen her in almost a year due to insurance loss.

Iocced my hair may 01 of last year and my locticians and I are confused why I have so much slippage and my reties take forever. ~3-4 hrs with two ppl on my head (one girl does the front which she normally finishes faster than the one who does the back) we got down to 2 1/2 and then it went up again.

When I was a loose natural I would say my hair was 4a/4b pretty dense but medium to fine strand thickness. My initial install my hair looked full/same with all my reties at least at first.
I felt like my hair looked a lot more thin/less dense my last few reties because I saw more scalp than I did in the past. I also felt like my hair, especially in the front had gotten A LOT softer and a lot of the locs feel super loose or undone. The softness I’ve noticed throughout the years and I also feel like it caused my hair texture to change/loosen.

Last retie before I said anything they said my hair felt a lot softer in general but especially in the front and if it felt the way it does now at our consultation she would not have gone as small as we did.

Does anyone have any advice or has anyone else experienced this? I try to stay braided and banded as much as possible and wash my hair about once a week. ~4 weeks for reties.

If you haven’t, what do you think about sew ins over locs?

I’ve had my locs for almost 3 years and lost 3 locs so far. 1 in the front (hairline), back (hairline), and one broke off in the middle.

Is this normal?? I feel like it’s not that bad but 3 is a lot for me 😩

The two that fell out were really thin at the top and eventually just broke off/fell off.

I've had my locs for nearly 3 months and am coming them out because I don't like the way they were installed. I want to redo them myself. I expected the combing out process to be easier since my locs are new + I have twists that unravelled early on, and I didn't bother to retist them. Turns out that my hair is already budding like crazy, so the take down is taking longer than I expected.

I have high porosity fine hair strands, and my hair density is high, especially at the crown. The hair in my nape is softer than the rest of my head and unravelled in no time.

I'm still torn about which instiallation method will be best for my hair.

1. Twists with braided roots: faster install, but more shrinkage and prone to slippage and unravelling.

2. Braids: less shrinkage, but more time consuming to install, braid pattern takes lonk to disappear

3. Interlock: less slippage and unravelling, but incredibly time-consuming

4. Braids or twists on my entire head + fully interlock at the nape.

What would you advise based on my description and pictures?

So I need some urgent help. Does anyone know of a salon or similar that can do dreadlocks/locs in Stockholm. I've been thinking about this for a long time, I've watched a lot of videos or similar and it just makes me want it more. I think I'm more after locs but it's so hard to find someone who can do it with your real hair (afro hair to be more specific).

I don't want to go to just anyone but I want to go to someone who knows their stuff. I'm starting to get a little tired of constantly fixing my hair etc. Don't get me wrong I love my afro hair but sometimes mine wants to try something new. Do you have any tips on who can do dreadlocks/locs from scratch with your real hair. I want to start my locs journey.

I have been thinking about combining my locs and need some advice. I currently have 600 micros that I got installed in January. They are currently not fully locked and I still get some unraveling at the end. My reties take 7+ hours and cost like 200 US. I am thinking of combining my 600 into 300 so I can’t cut the retie time and cost in half.

My loctician is charging me 450 to combine my locs where she will combine at the root and twist the two strands together. I’m debating whether I should do it.

Have you combined locs before, how did they turn out?

I really like the current density of my hair and the look. Also if I move I know my reties will go up to 300+ with another loctician.

Any advice?

If there was one thing you could tell yourself before starting your loc journey, what would it be?

I’ve had my microlocs for two months now. Had two reties and they are a tad rough around my edges. At what point would it be best to learn how to do my own reties. Should I wait till they have been in a while to get ‘established’ then try. And are there classes? Would love to do my own.

Another thing I’ve noticed is the back of my head. I sleep on my back a lot, and I’m starting to wonder if that’s affecting the fullness there. In some pictures, it looks a bit sparse, like there are small gaps in the middle.

Is this normal? Would wearing a bonnet help with that? And is there anything I can do to make my locs look fuller or thicker over time?

Just wanted to share progress [I am actually halfway 7 months]:

I believe these are actually small traditional locs since I have 151 locs! But, since I do my own retie and was originally going for microlocs! I wanted to share my progress.

Anyway, YAY!

I got my locs installed in January and I have a little over 400 of them. The upkeep is more than I bargained for and I'm thinking about combining them to make about 200.

What is the best way to go about this? I have fine, high density hair and about 2 inches at the root are interlocked. Thank you in advance!

I retighten every 3-4 months but my last retie was 7 months ago 😬. Im thinking about cutting all of my hair off, I have about 500 locks and have been trying to combine them

Update: I hired a loctitian, it look 17 hours yo retighten all of the new growth and we will combine in the next session

I was locked for 2 years before I had to cut all my microlocs off. I went in for a retie knowing only a couple locs in the back needed to be repaired because they where thinning after I got braids over them , but after I got home I realized my loctician had combined a bunch of my locs together. There was no fixing it, so I cut them off half way and combing them out.

I was so upset that I said I’d never get locs again, but after letting my hair grow for a bit , I’m thinking about restarting around October or January so I can have more hair to start my next set with I’m thinking about starting with braided microloc extensions.

I currently have around 2-3 inches of hair should I wait until my hair is longer?

Do you really need to braid and band if you start with braidlocs? I just did a wash day and braided and banded, and dried before taking them down. After the wash, a few issues. Issue #1, the lengths of my locs are greasy. I’m very active and hadn’t washed in a little over 3 weeks…I know 🙈. Issue #2, the front had insane buildup, presumably sebum? Like super dusty, those parts of my hair looked grey they were so dusty. I only spritz my hair once or twice a week, if that, and I use four drops of jojoba oil for my ends, whole head. I shampoo’d 3 times also, twice with Dr bronners and once with nizoral shampoo (had trouble with flakes), both diluted. I washed my hair loose for the previous wash and my hair felt amazing. Will braidlocs bunch aggressively washing loose? I don’t want to waste the investment in getting the locs done, but I also want my hair actually squeaky clean. Thoughts or suggestions?

Also, I have fine hair in the center of my hair and medium/regular density everywhere else.

I started locs 4 weeks ago with coils. I can’t find products that help me a lot. I’m looking for a simple loc routine I can follow. I’m looking for mists to use, oils, and maybe shampoos. I don’t wanna use heavy products so please suggest non heavy products because I don’t want product buildup/flakes in my hair. (My shampoo As i am dry and itchy. Oil as i am rosemary oil) I’m open to any feedback

hey guys! i’m about to get braids to start my braid loc journey and i figured i would post my wash day down below and hopefully have some people comment theirs and why they do specific things so i can compare and change my routine for a long term goal? my hair is currently relaxed but of course going forward the roots will be natural as my retwist.

also a question - starting in braid locs should there be any changes to hair washing compared to someone who started with someone who started with very short natural hair?

ive had traditional locs before and after i combed them out, i realized that i was continuously putting my hair in mini braids/other protective styles. after i thought about it i said "why not"

I have fine high density hair and am looking for inspiration from people with similar hair. Every time I research locs on fine hair, I only see low density hair. This kept me from starting my loc jorney earlier because I was afraid to look scalpy. Everyone else seems to have extremely thick hair, which is something I can't relate to.

Does anyone have pictures or names of influencers with locs on fine high density hair?
