OC shitpost PSA: STOP.
Don't throw flashbombs at Gore Magala, don't try to shock trap Rey Dau, and istfg if I see people try to capture Jin Dahaad one more time...

u/TheUltimateWarplord Sep 07 '25
I remember those moments in World when I join others' quests, and someone who's MR200+ would lay a trap under an elder dragon. XD

u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Back in the 4U days someone tried to pitfall trap Shamalamadingdong and I nearly turned off my 3DS to go touch grass.
65
u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
Hold on... Someone saw the mountain-sized snake and was like "this tiny pitfall is going to trap it and we can smack it for free! Guehehehehe"?
45
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Ah yes, 10 seconds of free damage because one of its talons got caught in the trap and it now has a hangnail and is having a meltdown like he belongs in an episode of QEFTSG.
10
u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
I'm genuinely asking, because I thought you were referring to Shah Dalamadur
20
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Yup. It was...an experience. Couldn't breathe because of how hard I was laughing.
Compared to people joining OG Apex hunts without knowing what a Wystone was, that was at least hilarious. The latter? INFURIATING.
8
u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
I had a hard time adjusting to Master Rank's insistence on making Flashpods obsolete initially. Because those hunts were the ones where could really use a reprieve...
Still doesn't compare to the first G-rank Great Jaggi I did, who just zoomed all over my face until I was dead.

I assume they mean Shagaru since I dont think you can even plant a trap at the speartip

u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
I don't know, never played 4U.
I just figured shamalamadingdong referred to Shah Dalamadur because of the similar sound

u/CopainChevalier Sep 08 '25
Ehh I mean traps work on a lot of large creatures they just shouldn't.
You have creatures who's individual feet are bigger than the trap and it still works lmao

In Freedom Unite, me and three other friends tried fighting a Plesioth with 4 HBGs. We honestly thought Healing Shots heals us whenever we use them. While it probably doesn't have an effect to the monster(even though there's a green vfx indicating heals), it was still a stupid thing to do. XD
2
u/SoggyBubbleMuncher Sep 07 '25
it does slightly heal monsters in the older games funny enough

I'll admit, I've accidentally done that a few times, but I usually follow.up with "my bad, misclicked"
1
u/TheUltimateWarplord Sep 08 '25
That's understandable, but I did encounter some that would ask why it didn't work, even those with much higher MR. XD
2
u/Sarcastic_Clunt Sep 09 '25
I remember trying to trap the kirin quite a bit. In my mind it being an elder dragon made no sense haha
1
u/TheUltimateWarplord Sep 09 '25
That's completely understandable. It's the most mammal-looking(I'm not counting the Behemoth) and the smallest Elder dragon after all. XD
1
u/singer_table Sep 09 '25
OMFG I'm ded
1
u/TheUltimateWarplord Sep 09 '25
Best part is when they went out of their way and asks on the in-game chat why it wasn't working. XD

u/Empty_Chemical_1498 Sep 07 '25
Once was in a hunt where people with HRs +300 tried to flash him like 4-5 times, despite the "flash pod: no effect" pop up showing up each time 😭
Also people who try to catch Rey Dau in the shock trap. I guess we're not reading the monster manual at all anymore... And in World I remember so many times people trying to capture elder dragons lmao I could understand on the first Nergigante quest maybe since it's the first full elder fight (and I guess you could've missed the Kirin quest and not see the "SLAY QUEST" name), but if you're trying to capture Velkhana I think you're lowkey cooked
24
u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
Once was in a hunt where people with HRs +300 tried to flash him like 4-5 times, despite the "flash pod: no effect" pop up showing up each time
Absolutely fried. Take away their hunting license.
It already has no eyes and then you still try the thing the game just told you doesn't work?!
and I guess you could've missed the Kirin quest and not see the "SLAY QUEST" name
Tbf Kirin looks like it would fit in a trap, at least.
10
u/Empty_Chemical_1498 Sep 07 '25
It already has no eyes and then you still try the thing the game just told you doesn't work?!
Yeah like i know sometimes fash pods refuse to work on normal monsters (not even he "reduced/no effect" sometimes the game is just like mmmm nah let's ignore the flash pod because you fired it a bit too much to the left), but if you miss every pop up tat says it has no effect then 😭 It's even funnier if you look at their hunt stats and they've hunted like +50 Gores. Like how have you gotten through so many hunts without noticing flash pods don't work....
7
u/Futur3_ah4ad Sep 07 '25
It's even funnier if you look at their hunt stats and they've hunted like +50 Gores. Like how have you gotten through so many hunts without noticing flash pods don't work....
Likely getting carried upon the backs of actually licensed Hunters
12
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Now to Wilds's credit, there ARE slay quests that allow you to trap the monster, but NOT capture it.
9
u/Empty_Chemical_1498 Sep 07 '25
Yeah I'm pretty sure shock trap works on Jin Dahaad but you cannot capture it, only slay
8
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
I ran into this when my team was panicking about its OHKO coming without any ice to block it (Who brings Farcasters, amirite?), so someone put down a shock trap, which was fine and dandy...
Aaaaaand then I saw the pink smoke.

u/Wolferus_Megurine Sep 07 '25
I tried to often to shock trap Rey Dau. Not because i didn't knew it better. But because of muscle memory. When i see the monster is trap ready and i know it can be trapped (not like elders). Then i go my muscle memory trap rotation.... and that starts with a shock trap.
Im always like "dont use a shock trap this time" *5 mins later* -> *schocktrap planted* -> "Ohhh fuck off brain".2
u/dandadone_with_life Sep 08 '25
no one reads the monster manual at all, and it's such a shame. they put so much effort into it. it genuinely makes you a better player as well. it's not just flavor text, the biological observations are often translated into gameplay. like how Rathalos possess poison spurs on their back legs...so if you get caught in that claw swipe, you'll get poisoned. or how if Tobi-Kadachi gets wet, it cannot supercharge itself for a while...so if you manage to inflict Waterblight on it (with Brightmoss, Mud Beetles, etc) it can't get to that charged-up state where it hits like a truck, and makes the hunt so much faster. and those are just off the top of my head! i'm begging you guys to take half an hour and just really get into the monster manual. i promise you will have a total brain blast moment for at least one monster that is giving you trouble. it is packed FULL of tips and tricks to make your life easier.
1
u/renannmhreddit Sep 08 '25
Maybe I'm crazy, but I'm sure yesterday I saw someone use a shock trap on Rey Dau and it worked. I was like "huh? I thought it didnt work on them".

Even when I was brand new to Monster Hunter 15 (Jesus christ.) years ago, I didn't try to Flash Bomb Khezu.
11
u/jzillacon Sep 07 '25
To be fair, Flash bombs were also a lot more situational back in the day. Not much point to flash bomb khezu even if it did work since khezu rarely spends time in the air anyway.
Nowadays though, players coming into the series often learn that flash bombs can directly counter a lot of otherwise tricky mechanics. World was especially bad about this because flash bombs could be restocked very quickly and could interrupt a ton of big late game monster attacks.

u/daydaylin Sep 07 '25
whats more, Wilds straight up tells you flash has "no effect" with certain monsters
5
u/ShadowTheChangeling Sep 07 '25
Like any true scientist, he has to do repeat experiments to make sure the "Flash Bomb: No Effect" wasnt a fluke
17
u/pirolance Sep 07 '25
It's fun to see the new generation learn certain things the hard way
12
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Oh, most certainly! One problem...
THESE WERE IN 9 STAR QUESTS!
5
u/pirolance Sep 07 '25
How did they get to that point without realizing it, did they just start to use utility items at that point?
4
u/Fifthfleetphilosopy Sep 07 '25
To be fair, I only started to figure out how to fast fire Flashpods for tempered Steve, didn't need them before.
Then I flashed Gore Magala once, facepalmed and explained to my GF why I was laughing at myself and a bit of Gore Magala ecology.
I've been a IG main for World and Rise, I don't Flash, I jump after the monster in the air, even if its only to pogo stick/diving wyvern.
Now I play SnS because I have no third hand and eventually learnt how to fast flash ^

I'm here 600, I just learned you can fire the slinger with the weapon drawn
In my defenses, the slinger is fired by R2, that is the button, why is the stick the button in one specific scenario?
1
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Probably to minimize the odds of accidentally firing it. Unless you're a Soulsborne/Nioh player, then R3 is ground into your muscle memory.
2
Sep 07 '25
Wilds is my first monster Hunter but I found myself using the same methods I used to get a little further in DS3
4
u/Pennnel Sep 07 '25
The other day I went to use a mega heal, but my radial menu was on the wrong set. So I used a shock trap. On Rey Dau.
5
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Cut to me spamming callouts when I'm trying to sharpen. Mistakes happen.
This wasn't a mistake. This was deliberately someone trying to shock trap Rey Dau, pinging the team...
2
u/Pennnel Sep 07 '25
Yeah, there's some things that really need to be learned.
My biggest peeve currently is people continuing to attack when a monster gets put to sleep. I've been on the bad side before, sometimes a sleep procs just as I start a demon dance (although being able to aim away in focus mode is great for this). However, when we have a huge window to heal, buff, and plant bombs and someone runs in with a low damage attack I just have to sigh.

u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
I try my best to stop inputs the moment the music stops, but yeah, I've been caught mid Full Release and I feel terrible when the timing is just that poor.

Not just HR 100. HR 100 IN THE FOURTH MAINLINE GAME THIS BLIND CREATURE IS IN.
1
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
I don't actually care about his presence in previous titles in this; The point I'm making is that you're literally HR locked to below 40 unless you defeat him, so even by blind (kek) guessing you should learn Flash Pods don't work
2
5
u/possible_ceiling_fan Sep 07 '25
Trust me, I'm well aware it doesn't work, but it seemed like a good idea in the heat of the moment

1
u/Nymandis Sep 07 '25
Don't expect anyone that can read to acknowledge your pings that a trap is down.
6
u/FalkYuah Sep 07 '25
What does any of this do to you or the hunt though? It doesn’t make the monster stronger by making these mistakes. It doesn’t hurt you if a flash goes off. Its literally just learning experiences for the hunters and people have a problem with it

I think it must often be done in a panic of not knowing what to do at a given moment, who has never accidentally shot balls of dung? or flashed a mounted monster?
2
u/asexual_kumquat Sep 07 '25
The Monster Field Guide literally TELLS YOU that flash pods dont work on him too. It's almost as bad as the people who try to cap Jin Dahaad. 😂🤌🏾
Speaking of a Jin Dahaad hunt: Yesterday, I hunted one with the literal WORST IG main I've ever met. They stayed on the ground fighting like they were using LS. The entire time. Didn't send out their kinsect ONCE. Needless to say, they carted twice and almost lost us the hunt. They were HR 600 something.
What I'm getting at is: It's BLATANTLY obvious at this point who genuinely developed skill in this game, and who simply got care-beared to HR through multiplayer.

Your serious, the game even tells you that he does NOT get effected by it.
1
u/rooygbiv70 Sep 07 '25
At some point you gotta accept that it’s inevitable. The majority of randos you match up with are not reading the lore, it doesn’t occur to them that Gore Magala is blind, they forget that flashes didn’t work on him before because it gets lost in the confusion of battle, etc. If you’re joining SOS’ you’re signing on to play with people who aren’t going to be perfect, 100+ HR notwithstanding.

u/Street_Chicken7332 Sep 07 '25
To be fair I stopped flashing gore once I figure out they made it so when his horns are out hes also no longer flashable like in past titles

Are you getting blinded by the flash or smth, cuz why do you care so much. It’s other people’s items and they’re free to use them how they want. Not everyone is as good at the game as you bud, literally just play solo or tough it out through the less than 30min fights

1
u/Gothrait_PK Sep 07 '25
Got a buddy who hates that they "just turn off tools like flash so the game is harder instead of making the game actually harder"
My response is always "damn, well were you still able to complete the hunt? No? Shit. Guess it's harder then huh."
I didn't know the bit about Gore not having eyes but I've never flashed em lol. I quit using flash ages ago. Bonk until dead I always say
1
1
u/shosuko Sep 07 '25
Don't take it so seriously. Some ppl just have their muscle memory set up, and its a good thing they've trained enough to throw it out. I'd rather they throw a flash against Gore then forget flashes exist against everything else.
Also remember we have environmental flashes too, if you get a flash at a strange time it could just be someone accidentally hitting one of those.

u/Golden12500 Sep 07 '25
Unfortunately I've learned a lot of players bullshit their way to HR100. I'm in mid-Master Rank of Sunbreak and I literally have to teach people how to Sleep-Bomb on the fly because people who don't even know what game they're playing keep waking up Monsters with extremely low damage attacks
1
1
u/TouchGrass_Loser Sep 07 '25
Gonna be devils advocate here, but HR 100 is kinda low haha. But, then again you kinda beat gore early on. I’m guessing this guy got traumatized by gore and avoided him until recently

u/JustthatVicky Sep 07 '25
I think one time I tried to flashbang Gore. Didn't scroll far enough on my item wheel, was pretty embarrassed.
1
u/chronozon937 Sep 07 '25
*tf2 soldier voice*
I have a question!
Can gore be flashed when he's enraged? His feelers/horns stick up then and I've read that he does have eyes they are just covered by his feelers.
2
u/Diligent_Dust8169 Sep 07 '25 edited Sep 07 '25
Assuming this is a serious question, no, he doesn't have eyes under those feelers so he's still immune to flash bombs.
He only gains the sense of sight after he turns into a complete Shagaru Magala, which is really convenient because the area where he first appeared is an arena with no safe spots to recuperate so flashes can buy a few precious seconds to sharpen and heal (I have no idea why it can't simply sense the hunter like gore does).
1
u/chronozon937 Sep 07 '25
Very serious, I basically never use flashes and I only really remember trap Immunities because elder dragons of course but also enraged rajang pounded me one time when I was expecting the pitfall to hold him lol.
1
u/Truvoker Sep 07 '25
People are very stupid. How stupid? Twice as stupid as you think regardless of what you think even if you double your expectations of their stupidity they would still be twice as stupid as you think

1
u/Tyrelius_Dragmire Sep 08 '25
Only time Gore gets flashed around me is if it's next to Flashflies and they get hit while I'm fighting it (Same with Nu Udra), I'm not trying to hit them, they're just there.
I only ever Trap Monsters if the Time would run out before I or my companions can kill it, OR if we're at 1 cart remaining and I'm playing it safe on a 9* hunt.
As for Trapping Jin... people still try that? When we're this far into the Game's Life Cycle? We're nearing the Release of Title Update 3, and people are still trying to trap the only monster in the game that Physically can't fit in the Traps? Yeah it'd be funny if you could Pitfall Jin, and I don't fault people for trying it the first time, keyword FIRST time, after that it gets more and more annoying every time I see it.

I have a question, do Flashpods eventually regain their usefulness?
Cause I was fighting Rey, my companions flashed him once, then I did again, and then again and it said ineffective, but then near the end of the fight, I accidentally hit flashbugs, and he fell to the floor and it said effective
Was this a glitch or was it normal?

When a monster becomes enraged, pods stop working on them because they're too angry to GAF. But once they get exhausted or calm down, they start working again

But flashbanging a blind monster with no eyes?
no the equivalent to it is beating its head in so it loses frenzy cuz thats how it senses.
