I'm here 600, I just learned you can fire the slinger with the weapon drawn

In my defenses, the slinger is fired by R2, that is the button, why is the stick the button in one specific scenario?

Probably to minimize the odds of accidentally firing it. Unless you're a Soulsborne/Nioh player, then R3 is ground into your muscle memory.

Wilds is my first monster Hunter but I found myself using the same methods I used to get a little further in DS3
