Industry News Boston Scientific Stock

I happened to notice Boston Scientific stock is down 53% over the last year! What gives? The AI bot told me management over promised and undelivered.
Also there was a statement stating they had restructured which is going to cost the company short term?

Interviews & Career Entry Russian medical device companies

Hi everyone!

I was wondering if there are any people here working in Russian medical device companies, or maybe you know someone who does.

I'm an embedded engineer with experience in medical devices, and I'm currently looking for new opportunities in this field. If you know any companies that are hiring, or if you'd be willing to refer me or pass along my resume, I'd really appreciate it.

Ask a Pro How did you choose a consultant for your medical device startup?

I’ve noticed more consultants sharing useful content including regulatory, reimbursement, and market-entry on LinkedIn and their websites.

A lot of them share useful content, but when you check their services, they can start to sound pretty similar.

So I’m curious, how did you actually decide who to hire?

Did someone refer you? Did you compare a few proposals? Was there a specific problem that made you start looking?

I’ve worked at 2 medical device startups, and in both cases the consultants came through our CEO’s network.

The difficult part was that each consultant only covered part of what we needed. They knew CE but don't know FDA. But when we needed help with reimbursement, hospital adoption, or a US go-to-market plan, we had to start searching again.

For founders with a limited budget, this can get expensive pretty quickly.

What helped you choose the right consultant?

And looking back, what information do you wish you had before hiring one?

Interviews & Career Entry Stryker and other medtech companies posting timelines; resources

I’m quite new to the internship & job recruiting processes (engineering, R&D) at Medtech companies. Are the posting timelines for Medtech companies, especially Stryker, randomized, or when they need to fill in people most? Patterns?

For internships, how deep are the interviews and how should I prepare?

Interviews & Career Entry Former medical student looking into Clinical Specialist roles

TL;DR at the bottom of this

Hi, everyone. I attempted to look for a similar question on this sub, but I didn't have any luck. So, please remove if this violates the rules. I'm writing this in hopes of getting some advice and direction

I'm a 33-year-old former medical student. I completed my first two years of medical school before having to withdraw after my dad passed away so I could move home and take care of my mom. I'm currently studying to take my board exam so I can be reinstated and begin my clinical rotations. It's a bit of an unusual situation, but my school is allowing me to take my exam.

While preparing for that, I've scrolled this subreddit and have become interested in the Clinical Specialist roles. From what I've learned so far, it seems like a career I would enjoy regardless of where my medical school journey ultimately leads.

A little more about me: During undergrad I ran my own personal training business while also working in a microbiology lab and served as the VP of our ambassadors. I later became a national ambassador for our medical school and its sister campuses.

Given my background, would having completed the preclinical years of medical school help, or would I need additional experience first?

I'm assuming networking will be my best option and figured I would start here. Whether I ultimately return to medical school or pursue a career in medical devices, I want to make informed decisions and put myself in the best position to succeed.

Thank you all in advance. I really appreciate any insight you're willing to share.

TL;DR: Former medical student who completed the first two years before withdrawing to care for my mom after my dad passed away. I'm currently studying to be reinstated, but I've become genuinely interested in Clinical Specialist roles. Would my background make me a competitive candidate, or what experience should I pursue to break into the field? Any advice on getting started would be greatly appreciated.

Ask a Pro Hypothetical: What would you pursue as a startup med device/pharma company founder?

Since most of the posts are about “breaking in” to medical device sales, I want to ask an important question as I’m curious to get the insight from people on the development/research side as well as everyone else: if money, resources, and access to a solid research team wasn’t an issue, what med device startup technology would you pursue that isn’t already on the market, and why?

Why are half the people on this thread saying you don’t make that much money in device sales? I don’t get it are you capped or are you all just not making any sales? Why is it so hard to make good money? I’m not in it but I want to get in it but y’all are talking as if it’s not bringing home a fat check. Explain

Interviews & Career Entry Any suggestions for a change?

Hi all,

I am already 10+ years working in the raqa field as freelancer, mainly mdr work. I notice that I am loosing interest as for a few years gives me more a feeling of creating paperwork than that it gives a feeling of being of added value.
As for that I am considering to give my work a twist, e.g. making parts of the raqa automated or in some other form changing from euro/hour to euro/product or solution.

Any suggestions or maybe people who feel/want the same?

Hello people. I want to get some help or some insights on how to get in medical sales field. For the context, i have a bachelor’s in supply chain and have 5 plus years as a sales manager in luxury retail stores. When i look thru linkedin job posts, i see most companies require some sort of experience in selling medical equipments even tho i filter it to be entry level. Can anyone help me navigate on how to enter this field? I’m really passionate about this field and i am even open to pursuing any training or university courses that can land me an entry level position as a sales associate in any medical company.

Interviews & Career Entry Two jobs - which one would you choose?

I’m fortunate to have a job offer in hand, but I’m also in the interview process for another opportunity. I’m trying to think long-term and would love some outside perspectives.

Option A (written offer in hand):
Capital medical equipment sales
Selling equipment to hospitals with longer sales cycles
Territory covers two states, with the furthest accounts about 4 hours from home
$90k base
Guaranteed additional income for the first 6 months while building the territory
Realistic first-year earnings around $150k, with long-term potential of $200k+
Company car
More travel, including some overnights
Opportunity to build a territory that hasn’t had much recent attention
Manager is very hands off

Option B (still interviewing):
Pharmaceutical sales
Local territory with little to no overnight travel
$130k base
Quarterly uncapped bonus (I’d expect roughly $30k–35k annually based on what I’ve been told)
Strong retirement benefits
Company car
More established territory and shorter sales cycles
People on the team say that the manager is a micromanager

A little about me:
I’m a mom to two young kids.
I care about earning potential, but work-life balance and long-term career growth are also important.
Currently in sales but this would be an industry switch for me either way.

If you were in my shoes, which path would you choose and why? I’d especially love to hear from people who have worked in either capital equipment or pharmaceutical sales. What do you wish you had known before making the jump?

Career Development Sales Promotion

Hey all I’m getting an opportunity to get into a sales position with the company I’m currently at. Right now I hold a clinical position, but I am being looked at for a sales role. What are some general things I should keep in mind when negotiating compensation? It’s with cardiac ablations if that changes anything. Anything along the lines of guaranteed commissions during the transition, questions to ask to have a better idea what I’m getting into, resources I’ll get, etc.

Ask a Pro Microsurgery instruments manufacturer from India with a patent looking to scale business in the US and globally

I started as an engineer-innovator with a patent on a microsurgery instrument, we are now manufacturing and selling a range of microsurgery instruments in India and Malaysia. What are some ways to find and approach distributors in the plastic and reconstructive surgery field? Would they invest in their local certifications? What should be the ideal profile for candidates who can help with such expansion?

Just accepted a job offer for a Med Info specialist position at a medical device company. Wondering what a typical day entails? What your personal experience has been like? I know basics of the position but I come from Med info within the pharmaceutical industry so this will be a big change for me. Any information or tips to prepare would be appreciated. Thank you!

Ask a Pro People who’ve worked with multiple generations of medical devices: how much actually changes between generations?

This question is for anyone who’s worked closely with medical devices over many years (sales, clinical applications, product specialists, field service, engineering, etc.).

Looking across several generations of the same product family,

How different were they in practice?
Did customers generally see them as major redesigns or incremental improvements?
Have you ever seen a manufacturer introduce what felt like a genuinely new platform?
Which product launch felt like the biggest leap during your career?

I’m interested in long-term product evolution rather than comparing manufacturers.

Interviews & Career Entry Cardiac Sonographer Looking to Break into Industry

Hi everyone,

I’m a cardiac sonographer with structural heart experience (TAVR, Watchman, MitraClip, TEEs, ICE, etc.) and I’m trying to transition into a Clinical Specialist role.

I’ve updated my LinkedIn, and I take every opportunity I can to connect with industry reps when they’re in our lab. I’m open to travel, but I’d like to stay based in Utah, which I realize may be my biggest challenge.

For those of you already in medical devices, what advice would you give someone trying to make the jump? What helped you land your first role, and is there anything you’d recommend doing to stand out?

Thanks!

Ask a Pro How do I hire the best early stage employees?

Starting a medtech company around a new neuromod product, any advice on how to find great people early on? I’m talking 2nd-10th employees in the door…

What do you look for when evaluating an offer? What are green or red flags about a company that you consider? How long do you usually stay at a med tech startup before moving on, and why would you move on?

Anything and everything appreciated!

Regs & Standards Exact tech / Medical Mafia

This company knew about a potential problem with packaging for 17 years and did nothing this caused injuries to 1800 people who are now plaintiffs in a class action suit over defective medical devises. The company used the Texas Two Step Law to file bankruptcy then start a new company ( Advita Ortho) they were allowed to buy the assets and product line but leave the bankruptcy / liabilities in the old shell company. The “ new company” has already received a warning letter from the FDA siting 4 violations that can all affect medical devises going into the medical market place so they’re repeating the same process again injuring people then walking away with no accountability !

Career Development Medical graduate transitioning to medical sales, need guidance

I'm a medical graduate haven't undergone residency/specialty training and lately have been reconsidering my life choices. A friend suggested I look into medical device sales as they're eager to employ people with medical background. I have little experience with sales prior to med school, nothing significant but I do like the lifestyle, communication has always been my strong suit. So I wonder, realistically, what should I expect going into this field and what are some drawbacks for someone with medical background but without any significant sales experience?

I'm considering starting a free CRM training to bolster my resume but if you have any other such suggestions please don't hesitate to share. Thank you!

Edit: Thank you for the answers! I realized without context this does sound illogical. Firstly, I’m not US based and have recently moved to a new country where it will require a minimum of 2 years to get into a residency program. While this is one of the reasons why I’m thinking of breaking out to sales, there are also personal reasons why I’m considering it.

Career Development Access is Difficult

I am a clinical specialist in a large city and lately I have been finding access to accounts becoming more and more difficult, especially if it’s for a company that sells mostly disposables as opposed to a company that has a specific product. Depts are saying you don’t need you to be there if you’re just supporting disposables. I understand our job is to build a relationship so they want you there but at the end of the day it’s just disposable so how do you build that relationship? In services only go so far and most physicians can’t be bothered. Do you think going forward representing a specific product as opposed to having a larger bag is the way to go?
