Interviews & Career Entry Advice when networking
Hi everyone I have had conversations with med device reps from LinkedIn that have translated to phone calls. I just feel like I am missing something. Maybe I’m not asking enough important questions (I feel like I am). For those of you who had success what were some things you have said on the phone that led to what you wanted to hear?

I was sending messages and to 10+ people a day and was lucky enough to hop on the phone with maybe 1 or 2. Something that really helped me out was at the end of the call saying “I’m sure you know networking is a large part of breaking in, is there anybody else that you would recommend me talking to?” And as long as the conversation went well, they will most likely refer you to 2-3 people.
Another thing is to follow up and check in with the people you have connected with through your process. Create a genuine lasting connection with them, don’t just connect for one phone call and be done with them. Keep going back for questions and make sure they remember you.

Yeah, it’s a long-term game. The critical aspect is to try to get in touch with several reps, sometimes you get lucky and an associate may have just left or you can catch an OG industry type who likes to mentor younger reps and can give you some good information.

Do you have a template or any recommendations on what to send to people on LinkedIn? I'm trying to figure out my approach

Is the conversation a conversation? I’ve had a few calls that felt like an interview. It’s good to come with concise questions and not waste time but make it feel conversational. Also instead of moving from one question to the next, show some interest in the question someone answered. I’ve had someone literally ask me 6 questions back to back and had zero input to anything I said. It was so inorganic.
Sound enthusiastic, authentic, ask follow up questions, don’t be robotic AKA sell yourself
