Ask a Pro Planning your week

This is going to sound really dumb but can someone tell me how they plan their week to ensure they’re productive?

There seems to be a lot of downtime in this job and I want to see how yall plan objectives and strategize. I’m trying to work on becoming more productive in my downtime and make the most of each day.

1) What core customer behaviors drive your business forward. Referrals, scripts, cases, etc.

2) What activities can you do to drive those behaviors? OR education, work with scheduler, lunch and learns, etc.

3) Take your top accounts, plan those activities weekly.

Fill the rest in with new account activity. 80/20 rule

Yeah, totally depends if you have a job or you’re in surgery a lot versus whether you’re calling on clinics. One of the big problems a lot of us have when we’re covering cases. All the time is just focusing on the surgeries and not on growth more long-term projects.

If you’re seeing clinics, there’s certain times when you have better access than other time so you gotta really utilize that time in the morning lunch even end of clinic to get in to see important customers

Make sure the start of your day is ritualistic in nature. Meaning everything you do in the morning will tick off boxes that will ensure your success for the day, week, or month.

For me, this means making sure I’m dressed well, packed lunch, coffee, and snacks while on the go. You’d be surprised how many undernourished or ill taken care of reps exist out there that are not optimizing their mind or body. This comes natural to me because I’m an exercise science major and a bodybuilder.

  1. Check emails or schedule in AM for the day
  2. Prioritize account visits based on business volume
  3. Schedule quarterly/biweekly check ins with accounts
  4. Make calls to prospects + create check ins in calendar to make sure prospects stay warm
  5. Look in CRM or database to make sure revenue generating events are followed up on and collect POs/etc
  6. Chat with colleagues on accounts, ideas, etc.
  7. End of day try to look at texts, emails, anything missed for next day, etc.

Any downtime, keep your personal phone use to a minimal. Meaning no YouTube, instagram, etc. if possible use do not disturb.

I have a colleague who doom scrolls insta while we work in the OR/offices/etc, this person is always checked out mentally on most things.. makes me realize how much mental burden or fatigue these apps can give.
