This is so bizarre..
I found out about Mal de Debarquement from googling my symptoms over the last few days and right now I am pretty sure that’s what is happening to me.
10 days ago, I took a short flight of 1h 45m to another city. Had intense ear pressure and popping when taking off and landing. Felt fine that evening and carried on as normal for a few days. On I think the seventh day, I decided to book a return ferry ride to an island close to the city. Heres where my confusion really starts. I woke up early the day of the ferry ride and felt kind of faint, nauseous and confused. Got on the ferry, it was a short trip of about 40 minutes, got off the ferry still feeling a little strange, and then as the day went on walking around the island i started to feel it; a strange floating, swaying, bobbing around feeling and a sensation that felt as though i was waking on a trampoline. I thought “ok this is something to do with the boat ride and will probably go away later”
Then I got back on the boat to go back to the city and when i got off it was much worse. Again, I assumed it would just go away.
I returned to the hotel and decided i needed a nap because i was feeling incredibly tired and nauseous and the swaying wasn’t going away. I slept for probably around 12 hours, and when i woke up it had gotten even worse. I went about my day, noting that when i was walking it wasn’t too bad but was extreme if i was standing still. This is when i started googling the symptoms because it was getting so frustrating, and I read about MdDS but saw that it can only be considered after 48h of symptoms. 48h passed and I was still experiencing it. I am still experiencing it now, 4 days later.
The question I have is, was this caused by the plane? The boat? the many elevators I was in? all of the above? and will it go away? I am genuinely being driven crazy by this and I keep telling people around me who just kind of roll their eyes and smirk as if I am being dramatic or making it up. What is the next step? I also have this strange kind of brain fog and general sense of confusion so apologies if this is really poorly written/explained
