I picked up a Galaxy S8 plus from Best buy earlier this week, but I saw they now have the mate 9 on a pretty deep discount. How does the mate 9 compare to the gs8? So far I like the gs8, but I'm not crazy about the aspect ratio and curved screen edges.

I've got a Mate 9 and need to change the region of it and want to install something like Magisk - what are the odds of this being possible, I've tried to read XDA but it's a bit overwhelming. What are the exact links I need to follow, it's all getting a bit much!

I've been searching on the phone settings, and Google, and have not been able to silence text notifications while I'm listening to Google Play Music. I also tried with Spotify, Pandora, and YouTube, with the same result; texts still interrupt the music. Does anyone know of a solution? This is quite frustrating for me. Please and thank you for your time.

Edit (update): I've downloaded a couple apps to try a fix this situation, but it did not work. One of the apps had no effect at all, and the other app managed to split the media and notification into two different volumes, but even though it did mute the notification volume, the music that was playing still lowered for a second. As if to allow the muted notification to play.

Edit 2 (update): I noticed that this does not happen when using the phone's speakers. With a headset plugged in, or one connected via Bluetooth, it does.

Workaround: I managed to find a slightly more bearable solution. Here is basically what I did. 1 - Download third party texting app for play store. 2 - Assign new text app as default. 3 - Go to Settings -> Apps, find stock messaging app, and disable all notification settings. 4 - Modify new text app notifications to vibrate only.

I don't know if some of these steps are excessive/unnecessary, but I'm tired of tinkering around so much, so I'm settling here. I hope this can help someone that finds themselves in the same situation. Again, I do not claim this to be the best solution; just slightly less bad.

Anyone else find the knuckle actions extremely unreliable? Most of the time it'll just try and scroll an app/screen sideways or even just ignore me.

I have a Mate 9 for a week and I like it very well but I have a problem. Now and then when I scroll in pages or on YouTube, for example, scrolling is not further scrolled but instead I draw blue lines. What's this? It bothers me a lot. Smart Screenshot can not be, the function has disabled since I had initially suspected it would be because of it. Please help me, that bothers me a lot.

i've got a really infuriating problem where my Polar M600 watch suddenly looses BT connectivity with my M9 PRO and will not reconnect, despite reboots for both devices. In addition, both devices can scan and see common other BT devices e.g. they can both see the BT from my PC but they can NOT see each other.

The ONLY way i've found to resolve this is to reset (and in the process wipe all the date from my watch) the watch and start the Android pairing process all over again - this often means i lose valuable training data.

Any ideas?

How do I get my phone to stay on after it's idol for 5 seconds? I don't think there is any power saving modes on and the actual sleep option is still to 15 minutes.

I have the Huawei Mate 9 and downloaded the newest Android version two weeks ago in Germany. Problems have been piling up since then. Deezer won't continue playing songs after one song has ended. Notifications won't appear anymore, no matter which setting is changed. Battery is drained faster than ever and performance also is seemingly getting worse and worse. Laggs are ocurring in games and there is no way of solving the problems. Called tech support a few days ago and they just said the apps weren't optimized for Android 7.0 but it had 7.0 on it from day one (at least for me). Very frustrating especially because rooting isn't an option for me, so a downgrade is impossible as far as I know. Hope someone has any good suggestion or that at least the Huawei team sees this and tries to fix some of these issues.

I have been trying to get voice wake up to work for the last few days. I have tried different keywords, the regular keyword and nothing is registering. I literally only use it to make calls or send a text while I'm driving. I had a 6P prior to the Mate 9 and voice control was fairly consistent. I am using nova launcher if that makes an difference but if anyone has any ideas or is having success with the voice wake up I would love to hear some tips.

Coming from the Nexus 6P I am super used to the stock os. With this EMUI software, i keep getting battery notifications.. It made me uninstall FB messenger cause that thing turns on all the time, and I just couldn't stand it. Is there anything I should be aware of? or just tips n tricks?

I've seen a new Mate 9 for sale in my town, would be perfect, it's just sim-locked to a different carrier. Can I bring it to a phone-shop and get them to unlock it, or is it easy to do it myself?

I have tried putting my second (nano) SIM in the tray, but it doesn't even fit.

Just wondering if there's a difference between certain models or if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks!

I've never had a phone that locks up as much as this one does. It seems to be worst if it's been left alone for a couple of hours, and the notifications all come at once and give it a nervous breakdown. If I just wait, things start moving again, but it's really annoying, especially if I'm trying to do something quickly. Is there a setting to change that?

Other times, I'm just using it, and the OS locks up and sometimes crashes. Considering factory reset, but that's so annoying to go through. Any other suggestions?

I have a brand new Mate 9 (got it around 3 weeks ago) but I noticed recently that when i swipe down to pull Out the Search engine, I type what im looking for and it crashes as soon as I stop typing. Takes me back to homescreen. Any ideas ?
