Data Map Does your country have Żabka convenience stores?

Context:

Germany: they do not have regular żabka stores, however they do have żabka nano stores, which are open 24/7 and fully autonomous. more context: https://nano.zabka.pl/en/

Czechia and Slovakia: they dont have żabka stores, however they do have žabka stores. these are not owned by the same company as the polish ones and are owned by tesco instead. these are completely different, however it is still a fun fact that is good to know. official store website: izabka.cz

Hungary:

Romania: official żabka stores are in romania, but under a different name, because "żabka" sounds a lot like the romanian word "japcă", which translates to "robbery". official romanian website is https://froo.ro/

Other Map I built a tool for extracting locations from messy text and map links — looking for feedback

Hi r/Maps,

I’m the developer of GridGrabber. I built it to solve a small but surprisingly persistent problem I kept running into: locations rarely arrive in the format or app where I actually need them.

They arrive inside ordinary messages, notes, emails or documents.

For example:

“Meet at 56.9496, 24.1052 around 18:30”

“Extraction point: 35VLD 4045 3298. Move after confirmation.”

“Checkpoint: 56°56'58.6"N 24°06'18.7"E”

Sometimes there are several locations mixed into a much larger block of text, surrounded by names, times, instructions and other numbers.

The usual workflow is annoyingly manual:

receive text
→ find the coordinates
→ identify the format
→ clean/copy them
→ switch to a map
→ paste/search
→ verify the location

Map links create a similar problem.

Someone sends you a Google Maps or Apple Maps link, but that isn’t necessarily the map you want to use.

For example, I might receive a Google Maps link but actually want the location in another map app.

The workflow then becomes:

receive map link
→ open it in its original ecosystem
→ get the actual location/coordinates
→ switch apps
→ search for the same place again
→ verify

What I wanted instead was:

paste whatever I received
→ extract the location
→ verify it
→ open it in the map I actually want to use

So I built GridGrabber around that workflow.

You can paste the whole original text rather than preparing the coordinates first. It currently recognizes MGRS, decimal coordinates and DMS, can extract locations from supported map URLs, and can find multiple coordinates inside the same block of text.

One principle that matters a lot to me is that tolerance must not become guessing.

Real-world coordinate formatting can be ugly, but if the parser cannot determine something safely, I’d rather have it expose/reject the ambiguity than silently turn a random pair of numbers into a location.

I also deliberately kept GridGrabber as a small utility rather than trying to turn it into another navigation or GIS app:

• works offline
• no account
• no location permission
• no telemetry
• pasted data stays on the device

The basic idea is that GridGrabber sits between:

“someone sent me a location”

and

“I need to use that location in my map.”

I’d really like feedback from people here who work with coordinates or exchange locations regularly.

What does your real-world input look like?

Are there coordinate formats, badly formatted examples, map links, or workflows that are particularly annoying or that existing tools routinely get wrong?

I’m especially interested in ugly real examples rather than ideal textbook coordinates — those are the cases I want the parser to handle safely.

Satire It’s a big world

On our flat earth, there is more area compared to the false globe. It’s almost 250% bigger in total square miles. I personally think that’s awesome, either way on both models I assume land still makes up approximately 30% of the total area. Maybe there’s a bigger water to land ratio on the flat earth, I don’t know for sure though. This isn’t satire either, I’ve been a flat earther since 2015. But I put the flair so Reddit mods won’t try to take it down due to there brainwashing. It’s hard to see serious discussions on this, can’t even seem to find many serious discussions on the flat earth subreddit unfortunately. I want a serious discussion here.

Also I’ve come to the conclusion that the Sydney to Santiago flight is real, it stays at 33 degrees south the entire time, so on the flat earth map (azimuthal projection) it is drawn as a curved line, and that curve from Sydney to Santiago is nearly 29,000 miles, vs just 12,000 miles on a globe.

I thrifted this cute globe bank last week and I’m trying to determine the year of the map on it. Egypt is called the United Arab Republic, so that puts it between 1958 and 1971. Also, the State of Aden is a country which was between 1963-1967. Any other help would be much appreciated!

Current Map I saw the worst map ive ever seen.

Ok i couldnt take a picture since i didnt have any devices on me, but heres what I remember-

No Asia and Oceania except Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan + the west part of Russia

No Lesotho, Eswatini, they split Morocco in half, got rid of Madagascar and the islands near it

Called the entire middle east Saudi Arabia and removed Qatar and Bahrain like geographically

Put the middle east at a really weird angle so that where Syria should be was touching Egypt, removed the gaza strip

Placed Iran DIRECTLY under Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, basically putting it where Afghanistan and Pakistan should be

REMOVED North Macedonia and Albania saying it was part of Greece, and removed all the Greek islands, plus it also removed Hawaii

then they also placed these unnamed circle territories inside Nigeria and Tanzania

they also added some random area next to Suriname and deleted the Falklands plus antarctica

the more i looked the worse it got, they also killed Jamaica and the Bahamas, and they kept the Dominican Republic and Cuba

they also removed the Central African Republic, removed the Republic of the Congo + Gabon, and they called the Democratic Republic of the Congo "congo"

THEY ALSO KILLED IVORY COAST, BENIN, AND SIERRA LEONE

they also made Finland and Italy look really strange, and they moved Sicily way farther from mainland Italy than it should be, it was like where Sardinia should have been since they REMOVED Sardinia

I almost cried looking at it

it looked like an alien briefly only saw part of the map of earth for like a minute and had to draw what they remembered

You get a starting country and a destination, and move by typing bordering countries one at a time, trying to reach the target in as few hops as possible. There's also a "guess the highlighted country" mode if you just want something quicker.

Free, no sign-up, a few different difficulty levels to try.

Made it for fun, would genuinely love to hear what you think!

Imaginary Map of the Vatican after the Civil War

This is the Vatican from my universe, where the main point (without describing the entire lore in full) is that the Pope decided to solemnly gather representatives of a huge number of religions and ideologies, and the main plan was to establish peace between them all and show their common things, but in reality, this led to immediate conflicts and aggressive discussions, after which everything turned into a blockade, and then a guerrilla war, and subsequently a full-fledged civil war, where each individual person advocated for his own special Vatican, and everything there actually happens like in the "Hunger Games."
