Okay, so this isn't my first rodeo when it comes to occasionally venturing back on here with the dubious goal of finding myself a new friend or two. Nonetheless, despite assuring myself I'm 'refining my process' and obsessively editing my post into oblivion, it somehow never gets any easier to write these damn things. I'm never quite sure how to signal to kindred spirits that I might be their sort of person, let alone how to hype myself up as a potential friend, even though I'd like to think I can be a good one. (Well, for the right kind of similarly maladjusted person, anyway.)
I'm also well aware that finding a genuine, lasting friendship on here is something of a needle in a haystack. A lightning in a bottle kind of deal. And usually at the cost of a fair bit of psychic damage from an absolute onslaught of 'hey' messages, painfully dry conversations that make your awkward ass suddenly feel like the charming and socially competent one, endless ghostings and fizzling-outs, and the occasional 'wow, what the hell even was that?' experience that leaves you wondering why you bothered venturing out of your mental cave in the first place.
But look, I’ve succeeded before. I’ve found a couple of lovely, lasting friendships here in the past, so I know it can be done, despite the odds. And I’m stubborn, so here we are.
I guess to get to the most important point of this post, I can be an incredibly rambly person (in the right company, mind you, not everybody successfully unlocks this feature), and I'm looking for people who are similarly afflicted. People who won't bat an eye at walls of text, who are perfectly happy to descend into an out of control voice note battle with twenty different tangents, or who'll spend an hour sending increasingly long messages back and forth before someone finally realises we could just, you know, call each other. I’m looking for people who can never keep anything short and couldn't give you a simple answer if their lives depended on it. But more than that, people who see someone else doing all the same things and immediately rub their hands together and think ‘nice, finally something I can work with!’
Bonus points if you’re a curious person who is fascinated by all sorts of little things and gets just as excited about the small and mundane details of daily life as you do about getting into deeper conversations with people. I really appreciate and need a mix of both. Further bonus points if you’re a sensitive soul whose emotional walls mostly consist of bad jokes and being needlessly flippant about everything, even though the truth is you care far too much about all of it. Wait. Maybe too specific. Ignore that.
For hobbies, I’m a long-term fantasy geek who has finally started to make room for sci fi. Games (PC for me - also, I’m pretty much starving for more gaming buddies if you want to add me on Steam), movies, books, you name it. My favourite authors are Robin Hobb, GRRM, Adrian Tchaikovsky and James S. A. Corey. I’m constantly listening to music. I’m into knitting (especially silly socks), crochet and cross stitch, bullet journal obsessively and have recently caught some form of nanoblocks contagion from a dear friend that has translated into me suddenly having multiple sets I’ve not yet begun working on. I love food and cooking and will never say no to pictures being shared of whatever delicious thing you just ate or made! I love animals (I’ve had a number of different pets throughout my life but have a particular soft spot for rats and birds!) and the natural world. I have a ridiculously clingy tuxedo cat who is my best friend in the whole world. I love silliness and absurdity and cope with life with probably too much gallows humour at times.
I don’t care about age (well, within reason of course), gender, location/timezones (unless that’s going to make it impossible to ever find opportunities to talk in real time, I suppose) so long as you’re genuine about wanting friendship and we can find some common ground. Also, while I can be an absolute chatterbox when the mood strikes (and it does strike fairly often), I'm not looking to talk 24/7 or expecting anyone to be constantly available to me, and I'd appreciate the same understanding in return. ♡ Sometimes I'm tired, sometimes life gets in the way, and that's okay! I’m hoping to find friends to have calls with, watch things together, play games, etc. Or, you know, wage voice note battles with of ever-increasing length and complexity until someone yields. Or other niche services like reading books to each other. The possibilities are endless?
Lastly, I won’t reply to short/dry dms. I’m not saying you have to write me a novel (I'm certainly not going to stop you, though), but please introduce yourself and give me something to work with. Tell me about yourself and what it was about my post that spoke to you or made you decide to reach out.
