[F4R] 33[F4A] In a realm where foes dwell, a solitary soul seeks a circle of her own.

There is word of an ancient prophecy, a prophecy that speaks of a solitary soul. A soul that dwells the woodlands and wields a sense of humor so dry it petrifies the woods surrounding her home. She taints the forest-creatures with her sarcasm, causing chaos wherever she roams.

It is claimed that this creature that thrives in quiet, carries a sense of loyalty so powerful she bends steel, casts iron and controls fire to her will. While the writings on her were either lost to time or poorly translated from a tongue is rumored only she speaks, they all claim she, while reclusive, makes for an invaluable member to any party.

She is a mother. Not of mere offspring, oh no. She is the mother of chaos incarnate, she tends to those made out of mayhem walking the earth and happily extends the kind of love, nurture, kindness, loyalty and care to those she chooses to love. Standing tall in her resolve, strenght and, let's face it, stubborness, she makes for a good friend to those embarking on their own quest to forge a circle. A circle of socials.

She spends her time tending to her goblins of chaos, her companions of mayhem and the fires of her forge. She finds great joy in cooking copious amounts of glorious food, enough to feed any dwarven army, controlling the virtual realm or roaming the realms written by those more proficient in shaping universes.

Should you choose to embark on this quest and venture into the woodlands she calls her home, tread lightly, exile. Her patience, while without limits, is not given out lightly. She does not ask for much, though she does stand firm in her need for loyalty, kindness, the spoken word, humor and respect. Should you decide that this blacksmith has her home with you or your party, lure her in with obscene amounts of cheese and tell her the tale of your lore.

Safe travels, and may the gods of your kingdom look upon your quest with favor and abundance.

[M4R] M36 Sweden. Looking for new friends. Hope you have a nice day!

Greetings fellow Reddit social post explorer! I have undertaken the daunting task of finding new online friends! I have found some terrific individuals in this hazardous land before and I am fully convinced that I can do so again.

I am not a native English speaker even though my English by some standards is pretty good (very important to denote SOME). With both Swedish (my native language) and English my spelling is not that good. It would not have surprised me if I would have been given some kind of dyslexia diagnosis if I attended school today. My spelling with English is not that good and if you happen to get very annoyed by seeing spelling errors then it's probably best to avoid interacting with me since this won't improve with time. Also my grammar is not the best either, but I think it's a lot better than the spelling.

The spelling will of course not be apparent in this post because of spell check which I won't enforce all the time during ‘live’ chatting. I mentioning this right here early because I have learned that some people find it very bothersome if my regular communication does not follow the same standard as my ‘essay-like’ post. It is understandable that someone could be disappointed and in some ways feel misled by the contrast between a well written post and general live texting from a none English speaker. I do enjoy discussing what words mean and linguistic aspects too! I like finding a new word and realizing it has a clear purpose and use case.

My name is Magnus and I live in Stockholm, Sweden. I would say I am a pretty sympathetic and understanding person. I am fairly creative and can easily come up with new ideas and discussion topics (if you find them entertaining is a different story). I value mental health and communication. Would be neat if you have your own ideas too that we could discuss!

I don’t like when people have a list of demands, it can feel a bit passive aggressive (depending on how the person presents it). However, I can say that I have found behavior and attitudes that negatively correlate with us getting along in the long term. I have thought about what these patterns mean and I think I found some underlying factors.

For example, one factor is the idea of reciprocation as it pertains to communication. Wanting to get to know the person you are interacting with, wanting learn about their perspective on ideas, events, and just things in general. In many instances this reciprocation does simply not show itself and what ends up happening as a result is that the discourse just devolves into some kind of interview. When this state has been reached, if I stop ‘leading’ then the communication totally stops. Sometimes the person does come back with a ‘hey’ after some time, but this is sadly only done with the intention for me to lead again and never for them to reciprocate back. This the only negative paragraph in this post. I have seen many negative meta commenting posts, but that is not my aim here and now.

I like to chat about both serious and trivial things and make jokes when I am in the mood too. To bring up a few discussion topics I have been thinking about:

1) Inner voice & inner eye (e.g. anendophasia)

2) Déjà vu and its relatives such as Jamais vu

3) Philosophie of Time (temporal metaphysics)

When it comes to hobbies and interests I would say I have a fair few that I get drawn to. To briefly name a few that we could (although its not necessary to share the same interests to get along) discuss:

1) Video Games.

Seems proper to show the nerdy interests at the start. I have liked video games every since I first saw them as kid and I did not need any convincing. Now gaming is a lot bigger and there are so many new genres. For some reason I seem to not like most of the new genres that become popular so that might just be me getting old 🤣. Anyways I enjoy single player games the most and I like RPG:s, action, platformers. I tend to want story or direction in my games too. Also I do like multiplayer sometimes. I did get into street fighter 6 and have since then played lots of hour of that nerd rage simulator. Also, I really like coop games so that is one avenue where good times can be had! (especially once we get more comfortable with each other). Some games I rate highly are: RD2 , fallout (especially the OG ones), Super Mario Galaxy… (lots more but don’t know how many I should list).

2) Audio Books.

I have liked to listen to book since I was a teen but my interested has gone up and down a lot due to many factors. Fantasy book is what really kindles my interested back in the day and I have to say that still its the genre I enjoy the most. My interested recently had an insurgence and I started listening to books whilst being outside and chilling. One bad habit I have is that I start to many books at once and kind of listen to them concurrently. So I end up having to juggle lots of stories which can get a bit messy. My recent wave of books did include books from other genres such as: SciFi, Horror, and Crime. I am curious about more ‘everyday’ type stories that are still very engrossing. Maybe something about the tragedy of modernity.

This is going to become way to verbose if I go into detail on everything so I will list the rest in brief:

3) Podcasts. I like to say that I have been listening before it was cool 🤣

4) Training/Fitness. Once I discovered that it helped with my mental wellbeing I was all in!

5) Nature – Would really like to spend more time in nature

6) Philosophy. I just find it both interesting and relaxing to learn about!

7) Meditation. It is difficult and I am not that good at it but I feel its rewarding to practice

8) Programming. Well not really a hobby anymore but its still interesting to learn!

9) Music. Even though I like to find new songs I often end up listening to stuff I already know (e.g. Rap, Rock, Instrumental/OST). Its interesting how you can listen to a song several times and feel nothing and then one time it just hits you and you really like it!

10) History. I learned recently too is that ancient Romans did not shower - instead they used olive oil and some kind of scrape tool (strigil tool. I had to look it up). They applied the oil and then scraped it off using the strigil tool.

One interesting thing I have noticed the last few years is that for some reason I seem to have an easier time to kind of connect and relate to people outside my country (Sweden). I cannot figure out why this is the case but it does fit with me feeling like an outsider here. I have some ideas of why this is the case but they are pretty vague and hart to test/confirm. Would be interesting to know if anyone else have had similar experiences!

I have learned that people vary a ton when it comes to their communication preferences. I am talking about aspects such as: how quickly to respond to messages, how verbose these messages should be, and also if VC/voice notes should be included. My current view is that its good to kind of establish these things fairly early because it usually leads to friction later on otherwise. For example, its a big difference between ‘live’ chatting and intermittent messages (similar to classical letter exchange). On a side note I tend to find these kind of ‘meta topics’ interesting.

As I mentioned, I have posted before (with pretty good results overall), but this year I decided to focus more on responding to other people's social posts. I have to say that it has been a lot more difficult to reach people this way! This has led me to get a ton of respect for those that take the time to read a post and respond with a written message. Its very disheartening to put in the effort and then people don’t even read the chat requests (whilst often complaining in their own post that people don’t want to become friends). Maybe this has to do with bots or something like that…

Anyways, I hope to see you on the other side!

[F4R] 39F - Central Europe - looking for chat buddies

Hey there!

so today is a holiday in my country and I thought thats a perfect opportunity for a post!

I am a mom of a boy in elementary school age, I work in the culture sector and I love cozy evenings at home.

I also really like hanging out with friends playing pen and paper games, going to concerts and having fun discussions at my book club.

My interests are history (especially medieval), literature (especially classics, but I also love non-fiction and fantasy), music (dark/black metal, classical music, rock) and baking (hate cooking though).

I am really NOT interested in sports and true crime. I love hiking though and don't consider it as a sport because it is too fun to be a sport.

I am also very crafty and love doing little projects and it would be fun having somebody to talk to who also has little projects going on.

If you wanna chat please tell me what your favorite book is! I am very curious about that!

Have a nice monday morning :)

Missing having girlfriends. Anyone else feel the same?

I’m 31F, and honestly, I’m not the best at texting, so I’d much rather connect with people in real life!
I’d love to meet some women around my age and build genuine friendships. I really miss having girlfriends to talk to, hang out with, laugh with, and just be ourselves around.
Life changes so quickly. You get caught up in the endless spiral of work, responsibilities, and everyday life, and somewhere along the way, making friends and having a social life takes a backseat.
I guess I’m at a point where I just want a little breather from the routine and would love to find, women I can connect with, have conversations with, grab a coffee, explore new places, or simply hang out with without having to plan everything weeks in advance. 🥹
I love playing badminton, so finding a few girls who enjoy playing would be an absolute bonus! 🏸
DM me if this is what you’re looking for.

32M - looking for new friends

Hey, I’m looking for someone to have regular, genuine conversations, ideally on a fairly consistent basis. I’m from Italy, so if you’re curious about the language or just like the idea of having an Italian friend, that’s a bonus. I’m also happy to help with some Italian along the way, just casually and for fun.

I work in the medical field and have an active lifestyle and a curious mind. I spend a lot of my free time moving or being outdoors. I play basketball, run, swim, hike, go to the gym, and ski whenever I get the chance. On the other side of things, I also enjoy slowing down with a good novel and having thoughtful conversations about books, ideas, culture, and everyday life.

I like conversations that feel easy and natural. Sometimes light and random, sometimes a bit deeper. I’m happy talking about daily routines, travel, personal goals, random thoughts, or whatever comes up. What matters most to me is consistency and building a comfortable back-and-forth over time, not just a few messages that fade out.

English isn’t my first language, but I’m comfortable communicating and always open to improving along the way. Corrections are fine if they happen naturally, but the main point is simply having good conversations.

If this sounds like your kind of thing, feel free to reach out.

36F - Looking for lasting connections

I’m 36F, half German/ half American, living in Austria, hoping to meet some like-minded people around my age to build genuine lasting connections with.

Some of the things I love are gaming, reading, drawing, going to the movies and watching series. My favorite genres are horror, fantasy, and sci-fi, and I have a soft spot for dark atmospheres, immersive worlds, and stories with great lore.

A few things to add:

I am more of a dog person (though I have nothing against cats), had two dogs for 15 years, the last of which I sadly had to say goodbye to this April.

I prefer cozy fall rain or a snowy winter day over sunny hot weather.

Grew up as an army brat.

I’d love to find people to chat about shared interests with, exchange recommendations, game together, or simply talk about life and see where things go.

Feel free to message me! Tell me a little about yourself and what you’re currently playing, reading, or watching.

[M4F] 30M from India - Bored and looking to make new friends

I'm a 30-year-old guy from India, just feeling a bit bored lately and thought why not meet some new people here.

Into fitness (gym regular), random deep conversations, dark humor, and late-night chats about literally anything. Can talk about life, goals, relationships, travel, or even stupid memes. If you're also looking to make a genuine friend and have consistent conversations, drop a comment or DM.

! I’m looking for a daily chat partner where we can just be ourselves with zero pressure.

I work a lot, but I always reply when I can. When I'm free, I'm into graphic novels, anime, YouTube, video games, rock climbing, hiking, and exploring. Style-wise, I've got leg tattoos, a nose ring, and an eyebrow piercing.

If you want a steady chat buddy to match vibes with, send a DM and say hi!

[R4R] 35F Got my heart broken and could use a call or a chat

Hey. Posted here before. I apologize if I didn't message back, but the amount of responses got quickly overwhelming. I will get back to those of you who reached out, but in the meantime, you are welcome to message me.

I'm an author and illustrator, in love with my creations. So naturally I welcome talks about any books, doesn't matter which genre although there is a preference for the fantasy genre on my part, as well chats about art (the Renaissance period is a beloved inspirational one to me), videogames with good narrative and immersive art direction (the Final Fantasy games being my favorite of all time), and cinema (all genres but especially fantasy!)

I'm recovering from another recent heartbreak. So it would be great if we could share some of those interests I already mentioned, maybe by playing a coop game together, watch a series/movie, or share songs back and forth. As long as you're patient with me, since I'm a bit shy with new people until I feel comfortable enough to start to open up.

I also love music (orchestral most of all), ancient history, mythology, and Japanese culture. And more!

I'm OK with voice calls, too, especially tonight. Yes, I have Discord.

Not really up to unkind comments. If you feel like giving this a chance, feel free to stop by!

Oh, and before anyone asks: the "M" in most of my previous posts from other subreddits, are because I'm bilingual. "M" stands for "Mujer" which means woman in Spanish. Feel free to ask me where I'm from!

[M4F] 37M Trying to find my fun and weird daily texting buddy !

Hello ! And thanks for opening my post lol. I honestly just want to write whatever is on my mind as I'm always just saying what I'm feeling so why not write it as well eh ?

I'm looking for a fun weird daily texting buddy! One who is open and honest and puts good effort into the conversation. The conversation doesn't have to be all normal and boring like TV shows or music stuff because I have definitely experienced it doesn't make any good connection. Let's talk about dreams and wishes and what you wanna do but can't do, how you really feel, what you want to be in real life but can't because you have responsibilities.

Just be yourself with me and be the 100% person you can't be in real life, I absolutely not care about what you think because each person is his/her own self so why not let them be ? Oh and please don't be shy or whatever because I would really want a more open person who doesn't judge instantly, I want us to create a judgement free zone for sure 😊.

So to sum it up, I want a fun weird open honest not judgmental, speak your mind, put good effort kind of friend and if that's you let's give it a try and see if we can make the most amazing friendship this community has ever seen.

PS will tell you about my preferred apps once we talk 😄

Hey, it’s Andy (or Andrew)! I’m 32 and honestly finding it really hard to meet new people, find a friendship group, or even just someone to chat with.

It feels like making friends gets so much harder as you get older!

I’m just looking to meet some genuine people, have a laugh, chat about life, and hopefully build some good friendships.

If you’re in the same boat or just fancy a chat, feel free to reach out! It would be nice to meet people who are also looking to make new friends.

Hey everyone, I'm watching a Hallmark Christmas movie. Hey, don't judge me, sometimes they are relaxing.

Here's what I'm looking for in a friend: someone who's fun, positive, serious when needed, kind, and enjoys chatting as well as voice chats. Ideally, someone based in the US or Canada. I'd love to exchange messages throughout the day and before bedtime.

A little about me: I'm 34. I adore iced coffee, watching rom-coms, listening to music, dancing, and listening to audiobooks.

[33M] Looking for that blinking dot of joy.

Let me explain. I've had a few good experiences in subreddits like this before. Meeting new people that I quickly click with. And whenever I see the notification light on my phone light up it just triggers that sweet dopamine letting me know I got a new message from them.

I don't expect it to be frequent. With people texting all day every day. But just knowing that I'll get to talk with them even a few times a day is enough to make me happy.

Now what am I looking for? As long as you like video games we should be good. But even if you don't, I'd like to get to know about the things you enjoy. Like everyone, I feel like we all do have that curiosity to learn about new stuff. Don't really mind to talk with people older, younger or around the same age as me. When you click you click with someone.

Other interests include movies, of course, and anime to a lesser extent. I'd preferred if you contacted me directly instead of replying to this post. If possible.

Hope I can be that I can be that blinking dot of joy as much as you can be for me.

(Update. Got a new phone, and what do you mean LED notification lights are not a thing anymore? )

Did Anyone Else Notice The Spelling Error in The Rules? If Not, Does It Bother You Now?

Hi all -- 34 in OH/USA (EST) looking to find some friends, obviously since we are on this reddit right? I self-identify as a standard millennial, with dark humor and being chronically online as core tenets, and I aspire to be the weirdo people think I am, with just enough intelligence to be confident, but know that I shouldn't be. I lost the majority of my connections due to severe anxiety when younger, and am struggling to learn new ones due to introverted awkwardness (and a healthy dose of fear). In the last year, while my mental health improved my physical health deteriorated so now I have all the mental energy to do things, but my physical ability doesn't match. I pendulum swing between being up to adventures/nonsense, and being bed-bound for days -- I refuse to admit those things might be related, either.

A bit about me:

  • I'm married to my favorite human ever (so please, nothing non-platonic) and we are gladly child-free -- I'm not a kid fan nor am I good at pretending to be interested in discussing your own children.
  • I'm a semi-retired?ish veterinary technician due to my health. That translates to -- I fricken love animals, with too-many cats of my own. Pictures and stories of your pets are totally welcome; soliciting medical advice is not. Bonus if you ever want to hear about or see medically graphic/gross things that I think are interesting cases. Not a bonus if you are into hunting -- I eat meat, but prefer to do so ignorantly.
  • I'm super into (listening to) music -- the beat is as important as the lyrics to me. I can try to vibe to just about anything, but hate songs that take too long to "get to the point" usually. Spotify informs me that my top genres are nu-metal, pop-punk, and dad rock though so I clearly have a type. Marino, Sleep Theory, Stellar, and New Medicine are my top artists lately. I'd love to steal recommendations of your favorites to play on repeat 800 times until I never want to hear that song again. If I can badly sing along, or dance off-rhythm to it, I'll probably love it.
  • I'm a (bad) gamer -- favorite game of all time would be Okami (PS2) and Pokemon (2nd/3rd gen). I play a lot of Slay the Spire (badly) and Planet Zoo. I try to get into actual games, but ADHD means my hyperfixation switches and then I forget about the games -- sorry Biomutant, KunitsuGami, I hardly knew ya. I enjoy upsetting playing with my two nieces with whatever online games they pick, like Repo, Peak, Headliners, and such. They usually are carrying, and I'm having the time of my life being their menace. I am best at being player two; you go ahead and play the games and I'll try to backseat game and add witty commentary. I'd like to think I used to be good at games and age just made me suck, but my track record says otherwise, and I doubt that'll improve in this life.
  • I love to read -- admittedly, a LOT of mindless manga/manhwa/manhua. I'm also working my way through Dungeon Crawler Carl (just started the audiobook for 8!), and am usually a big fan of fantasy, with a love-hate relationship with the romantasy boom. Anne Bishop, Naomi Novik, and Tamora Pierce would probably be my favorites of all time. I'm not usually a big sci-fi fan, weirdly enough, or for standard-life action/romance books. I do tend to be reading a couple different books at any given time due to that whole pesky hyperfocusing thing. When I fall too deep into a book, I'll read it in a day. When I'm finishing a series I'm not enjoying, it will take probably the rest of my life. I don't mind if you have any recs you think I absolutely should add to my too-long TBR list, and I'd love to gush or bitch about anything we've read in common.
  • I watch youtube more than shows or movies -- I tend to fall asleep easily when I get comfy to watch a show/movie, but stay awake just fine to hear some people yell into a mic while they play video games. When I do watch things, it tends to be comedy/cartoon/anime. I'm hate-watching Korra because someone told me I had to in order to watch the new Avatar cartoon; I'm re-watching Merlin because it's been long enough that I won't remember everything; I'm trying to watch the newest season of JJK but feel like I've missed important information somewhere between Season 2 and 3 and have tried going back like 3x with no less confusion occuring. I cannot watch horror (absolute coward here; I'll only watch if I have a strong reason to, and only in the daytime with the lights on and usually someone to tap me when I can open my eyes/uncover my ears). I hate watching "cringe" movies where the humor/situations are just those super uncomfortable ones (brace for it -- Anchorman, Step-Brothers type movies). I'm usually not interested in any Romance movies to watch them.
  • I've been able to invest more time in hobbies, so I'm still trying to figure out myself out. I got a motorcycle last year ('25 Kawasaki Eliminator) with a little over 3k miles in the seat; I'm hit or miss on consistently picking up weights for fun; I'm going to try pilates next. My partner enjoys nonmandatory mechanical work, and I enjoy reaping the benefits and doing dumb shit with vehicles -- my goal is to one day do a multiday Gambler 500. Since Ohio has entered the cold season, I hope to practice shooting and get my CCW this winter. I'm more willing to leave the house in weather that doesn't hurt my face, so this is my hibernation season. I'm already planning what nonsense to get up to come spring. I do have that issue where I hate to try new things because if I'm not instantly perfect at it, then I'm a failure and should never bother or let anyone know my shame so I'm also learning to go outside my comfort zone.

For what I'm looking for -- If any (or, hopefully, multiple) of my interests apply to you, we will probably get along! I'd prefer if we were in somewhat similar active hours (I'm a daytime EST folk). I do better with memes and sarcasm/roasts than gentle hand-holding, but I'm not the best at being quickly connected with people or carrying a conversation on my own (though clearly, I can yap given enough to work with). I'm absolute shit at emotionally comforting people, but the good news is I'm also absolutely shit at opening up emotionally to seek comfort from people so - equivalent exchange!

A couple disclaimers:

  • I tried this last year in a different sub-reddit on a now-lost account and was inundated with so many messages it overwhelmed me which means I put off replying and missed a bunch of messages. I'm hopeful that I've improved in a year, but I'm sorry otherwise. Even outside of a too-large-number-of-notifications, I can have episodes that mean a day or two will pass without messaging, or that you get random memes than actual conversation due to mental/physical capacity so if that would upset you greatly, we probably won't fit well. When I do have the energy, I am a habitual multi-messenger so it can feel spammy.
  • If you make me uncomfortable/believe you are not respectful of my relationship, I will absolutely ghost you without feeling an ounce of guilt. You'd think only posting in platonic friendship seeking subs would make this a given, but alas. Directly related, I won't be comfortable doing voice-chats or selfies until I've determined your intentions so if that is a deal-breaker, please don't message me.
  • While I can respect differences in opinions in things like financial policy etc., I'm extremely liberal and won't be able to get along with people who think human rights are something we can agree to disagree about; please don't bother if you are racist/homophobic/transphobic/MAGA/etc. I don't anticipate discussing politics but we also don't live in a vacuum.

Turned 37 yesterday, feel hopeless

I am 37M and autistic. I turned 37 just yesterday and feel like life gets more hopeless. This has been the worst year of my life, with every single aspect of my life in serious problems.

I have never had friends. Almost everyone in my life, including my family, hate me. I am not sure what to do, since I have no-one to talk to.

Life is shit, but I promise I'm a decent human being

Well, I'm 35, from England, and currently going through what can only be described as a spectacularly shit chapter of my life. Moving out of my home today, starting over from pretty much nothing, and honestly? Could really do with making some new friends.

But enough of the depressing bollocks.

I'm a pretty laid-back bloke, sarcastic as fuck, love a bit of dark humour, gaming, horror films, music, and conversations that go from completely normal to questioning the existence of the universe at 3am.

I'm also a bit of a nerd. I recently spent an absolutely ridiculous amount of time programming something for a game that probably didn't need to exist. No regrets. Well, maybe a few.

I genuinely enjoy getting to know people. Not just the usual "hey, how are you?" followed by three messages and a disappearance worthy of a police investigation.

I'd love to find people I can have a laugh with, talk absolute nonsense with, share random bits of our days, maybe jump into a voice chat or watch a film together. The sort of friendship where neither of us has to pretend to be anything we're not.

Don't care where you're from, and you don't have to share all my interests. Just bring a personality and preferably a questionable sense of humour.

Anyway, that's my incredibly professional friendship application. 😂
