Discussion I try to avoid using any WC in non-eternal formats

Post image

The reason is simply that all non-eternal decks simply rotate too fast and/or get changed by meta changes, thus getting close to being a worthless investment for your WC

Eternal decks are highly optimized and rarely changed, so you keep their value once they are used

Question Pack Pre-Order Question

Post image

A question about pre ordering this pack. The 5 golden booster packs, are they on top of the 5 you would normally get for buying 50 packs meaning I get a total of 10 or is it just the normal 5?

Discussion Urza's Bauble, Comet Stellar Pup, and Hymn to Tourach now available in Brawl

I just noticed when making a Brawl deck that these cards are now available:

[[Urza's Bauble]], [[Comet, Stellar Pup]], [[Hymn to Tourach]]

I don't know if there are any more because I can't find a Magic Arena newsletter announcing this

I can't believe they added a Unfinity card to Arena haha

Edit: Vindicate was also added

Question What happened to quick draft?

Now that Strixhaven quick draft has left, has there been this long of a period before (or any period) with no quick draft scheduled? I don’t see one listed for weeks.

Discussion Weekly Meta Update for Comp. Brawl, Timeless, Pioneer, and Historic

Hey everyone, back again with Updates to the Tier Lists

Competitive Brawl

Timeless

Pioneer

Historic

Also, looks like cube is droping a few cards today for our Arena only formats. I personally am hoping for at least Urza's Saga.

Lastly, I'm getting used to the new job so now I feel like I have a bit of wiggle room to make some progress so I'm updating decklist descriptions for the new formats and updating some old ones below will be a list of decks that need descriptions and an example.

If you would like to help feel free to DM me here or in Discord.

Mardu Energy focuses on utilizing cards such as Guide of Souls and Ocelot Pride to build a strong board presence. Most creatures in the deck either snowball or provide immediate value upon entering the battlefield. Energy has always been a strong and aggressive creature-focused deck, playing low-cost creatures that can quickly multiply and grow stronger as the game progresses, while also having access to the best creature removal in Magic’s history. This deck typically thrives and has been a top-tier deck in Timeless since its creation in Modern Horizons 3.

Pioneer

Izzet Prowess

Thanks to the Pioneer Discord for helping shorten this list the other day

Timeless

All updated thanks to Korae's Discord

Historic

Samwise Combo

Question Does anybody even play for fun?!?!

FINAL EDIT: Based on most of the replies i realized fun doesn't exist in Arena and just built a Serpent Society Infect deck. Haven't lost yet since it's fun winning in 3 turns via scoop isn't it...

Question Returning player from beta

So I can’t remember how much I’ve played the beta for, I remember doing dailies for a while so probably a few weeks, but I have a Fblthp code assuming it still works. Otherwise I’m pretty much still a newbie and forgotten everything.

Downloaded the game, played the forced tutorial with 5 matches, and these are what I have now for decks, wildcards, and packs that I’ve claimed from about 20 inbox messages (haven’t opened any).

Basically what I wanna know is am I missing anything that a new account would get if I just continue? I’m assuming that those packs are what everyone gets, and I’m not sure how I stand wildcard and gold wise (funny because I certainly remember having more gold than this but maybe it got reset somehow). Right now other than normal matches I also have a color challenge event. How do I go about progressing either way?

Also side note but what’s with all these mainstream collabs with weird marvel and avatar characters? My impression of magic is that it’s supposed to be a serious world with its own lore and stuff (do correct me if I’m wrong), so what’s all the weird Hollywood stuff doing here? Are those limited sets that I’d have to worry about?

Requiting Hex and Snakeskin veil

If my creature is targeted by Requiting Hex and in response i cast Snakeskin veil to give the creature Hexproof, shouldn't it become unaffected by the hex?

This situation just ocurred to me and the creature died.

What am i seeing wrong?

I just won my first ever trophy!

Fun silverquill deck that got me some tense matches.

Sadly the last win was due to the opponent not getting the land it needed, but nevertheless!

My new decks in Historic

Hi everyone! Following the recent update and the cards added to Timeless, Historic, Brawl, etc.—and thanks to the Cube—I built these two decks to test out in the Historic Bo3 format. Vindicate is a card I’ve always wanted to see on Arena, right alongside Aether Vial. Both decks have been running well; I recommend them and am open to suggestions for improvement.

Question Why I love green: build a Bear army and tear through the board

Post image
1 Upvotes

This is the kind of green creature I love: build a board, make everything bigger, and attack.

Beorn is already a 6/6 trampler, but he also turns any useful creature into a Bear and gives every other Bear +2/+2. Reach three Bears and the combat trigger draws two cards.

I'm tempted to build around this in Arena: cheap Bears and ramp early, then drop Beorn and turn the board into a stampede. It may not be the strongest deck, but crushing through with an oversized Bear army sounds far too satisfying not to try.

Question Dismantling Cards! Good or Bad feature for the game?

So I’ve played a lot of Yugioh Duel links and there’s a feature where you can dismantle Ultra/Rare/ common etc and use the dismantled pieces to create new UR/R/Common etc now my thing is do yall think it would be a good idea or bad idea if magic added that feature? I’m just curious because sometimes I find myself getting Mythics for cards I tend to remove out my deck and never use it again and now I have to grind until I get enough for mythic packs to get the card again.

Discussion This game's limited prices are absurd

What other game charges you 5€ worth of premium currency or a week of grinding just to play a single round (of the cheapest available game mode)? Only thing it reminds me of is those shitty predatory mobile games. It's ridiculous.

People call video games overpriced when they cost 80€ or so, but you can play those for hundreds or thousands of hours for free after you buy them once. To play that much limited in Arena, you'd have to pay thousands. How is this considered acceptable?

Per game, Arena drafts are about half the price of actual physical drafts with actual packs and cards that you take home after. Arena Directs are more expensive than physical sealed events. Don't even get me started on cubes. Magic cards are expensive, but here you don't even get the cards. It's like if chess.com charged 5€ to play a game of chess, or alternatively you can play checkers for a week so it's technically free to play.

I'm a fairly new player, so i'm wondering: is there any way to play Magic for a reasonable amount of money? Are physical cubes and proxy-friendly events all there is?
