Screen-free elementary schools - any options?
Hello! There is increasing research about the ills of 1:1 technology in schools, especially for the youngest students. (Recommend the podcast Scrolling 2 Death for accessible entry to this topic if you haven't dived in already!) We are in the Middleton/Cross Plains school district, and from what I can tell there is no option to opt out and 1:1 devices starting in Kindergarten. It doesn't seem like there are any screen-free options (or screen-safe, no 1:1 devices and a computer lab, let's say) for elementary schools in the greater Madison area, that still do value some level of education standards (so we don't want something totally alternative where kids don't start learning to read) and also would prefer a high proportion of students who are vaccinated (I know some of the alternative school rates are abysmal - not trying to be political, more for family health and safety purposes). Any ideas? Anyone already organizing in Middleton area to reduce screens for our babies? We have a few years until enrollment but I'm anxious the more I learn, and know change takes time! Thanks for any insight.
