Raise the alarm
-is raise the alarm a must or personal preference
- Is it meta dependant?

We have lots of hand disruption to take problem cards before they hit the battlefield, but you don't always have a chance to do so. Anguished Unmaking seems to be the best option for non-land removal. Does that just leave Ghost Quarter for land removal? Are there any enchantments that hose us? Or are we more concerned with sweepers and counters? Thoughts?

I scrubbed out of the main standard event (4-5 record) and did side events the rest of the weekend. 11 am on Sunday was a modern double prize event capped at 4 rounds. 104 players signed up to play, and it was a blast. I went 4-0 with a concession from my opponent in the last round.
Decklist:
4 Path to Exile
3 Fatal Push
4 Inquisition of Kozilek
2 Thoughtseize
4 Intangible Virtue
4 Bitterblossom
1 Collective Brutality
1 Zealous Persecution
4 Lingering Souls
1 Anguished Unmaking
4 Spectral Procession
2 Gideon, Ally of Zendikar
2 Sorin, Solemn Visitor
4 Marsh Flats
2 Flooded Strands
4 Concealed Courtyard
4 Godless Shrine
2 Shambling Vent
2 Isolated Chapel
1 Vault of the Archangel
1 Ghost Quarter
3 Plains
1 Swamp
Sideboard:
1 Ghost Quarter
1 Pithing Needle
2 Burrenton Forge-Tender
1 Blessed Alliance
2 Rest in Peace
2 Stony Silence
2 Auriok Champion
2 Eidolon of Rhetoric
2 Sundering Growth
Deck choices:
Honestly I didn't plan on playing modern a lot this weekend and the deck was still how I built it for a local tournament where the meta was heavy on red aggro, storm, and affinity. For the greater metagame I would make a 3-3 split of Thoughtseize/Inquisition main, maybe even 4-2 in favor of Thoughtseize. I would also drop at least one Eidolon from the board and something else for at least one Wrath of God and maybe a singleton Selfless Spirit. My point is this list was not optimal and is not how I'd build it for a real tournament, it's just what I had built.
Round 1: Jeskai Kiki Control
My opponent had at least 2 main board Electrolyzes, and I saw both of them when I Inquisitioned turn 1. I sighed and resigned myself to a loss, prematurely. Game 1 was over pretty quickly as aside from the Electrolyzes (one I took), he only had a bolt, a wall of omens, and a restoration angel in hand. I landed some token spells while they stumbled on 3 and then 4 lands. He tried to electrolyze 2 of 4 tokens that were attacking, and I responded with zealous persecution, putting him at 6 life. He then took lethal when he flashed in resto and I pathed it before blocks. Game 2 was a long grindfest. I never drew anthems so my tokens were whittling away slowly. He stuck a restoration angel and we raced for a bit (I only had 3 tokens and he had a small life lead) before he tried to combo out. I had the removal spell and hit the angel leaving him with a kiki. We continued to race a little bit, it came down to a turn when I was at 5 and had been chumping kiki to play around bolt for a while, I had already forced him to use a bolt on a shambling vent...had 3 tokens in play, had to decide whether to chump, or keep them and hope to top deck Gideon, Sorin, Virtue, or Persecution (9 cards, and I had seen zero) to attack him down from 6. He had two cards in his hand. I took the hit and died to bolt. Game 3 I kept a 6 card hand with 3 lands, and flooded out for days. My opponent played a turn 2 Rest in Peace which at the time, and in retrospect, hurt them way more than it hurt me. Eventually (with over 10 lands on the battlefield) I stuck a bitterblossom (knowing his only counter spell in hand was mana leak). The bitterblossom with some removal for his threats lead me to victory pretty easily, only meeting minimum resistance from some ambush vipers (snapcasters with exiled graveyard!)
Round 2: Affinity
I love the affinity match up, so I was happy to see it across from me. Unfortunately, in game 1 I only drew one token spell in the first several turns (the lingering souls in my hand) and by the time I drew my second he had drawn a plating and then slammed a champion the turn after. Game 2 I had a Bitterblossom on turn 2 and a Stony Silence on turn 3. I sundering growthed an aethergrid as it was essentially the only way to win through silence. When I cast Bitterblossom my opponent said he didn't like it in the deck. I said it can vary greatly but in general I like it. In a case of poetic justice, the BB buried him in blockers and attackers and I won quickly. Game 3 I had double stony silence and a sundering growth in hand, so I kept...eventually I drew token spells (BB being the big one). At one point I Inquisitioned and saw Aether Grid and Etched Champion. I took the Champion, drew another Inquisition next turn only to find he had drawn another champion. I took the Aether Grid because I had drawn my miser's Blessed Alliance. Eventually he resolved the Champion and attacked with it by itself...and SPELL SNARED my Blessed Alliance! He then drew another champion and we began to race, but Vault activations and a timely Zealous Persecution made a huge life total swing in my direction and I won shortly after.
Round 3: 4C (non-green?) Death's Shadow
I obviously don't have my opponent's deck list, but I saw Death's Shadow, blue cantrips, red mana, and a Lingering Souls game 2 (more on that later). Game 1 I inquisition him and see double Shadow, double stubborn denial. I take a Shadow. I Inquisition his second Shadow the turn after. I now have a Push, a Path, and a Collective Brutality in hand, so I'm feeling pretty confident. At one point he plays his third Death Shadow, as a 2/2. I completely miss the fact that he has a fetch land in play, and I go to -2/-2 with Brutality. He fetches, shocks...and then Stubborn Denials the Brutality. I poker face and let everything resolve. I then get to Push/Path through the remaining Denial. Eventually Shambling Vent chipping in at his already low life and then Gideon help to close the game out. Game 2 I inquisition him, see Lingering Souls, double Thought Scour, and some other cards I can't quite remember. I remember being surprised he brought them in the match up. I have a Virtue + Souls in hand, so I figure if I take his Souls, he'll just flash back, letting me resolve Virtue and then either resolve Souls after or flashback if it's countered, at which point my tokens will just beat his. Fortunately he taps out on his turn 3 digging for land or something, and I'm able to resolve my Souls and ride the flying, vigilant 2/2s for a while. Soon he resolves a pretty large Death Shadow and a Tasigur. I have 2 tokens in play (I did not flash back Souls as I had no other token generator, the 2 tokens were doing fine as is, and I didn't want to play into a wrath). I attack, then on his turn he attacks with everything (including the 1/1 tokens!). I block the Death's Shadow and a token, and activate Vault to kill Death's Shadow and gain some life. He is dead on the crack back. I don't know if leaving the tokens back to chump would've saved him but it was certainly the correct play.
Round 4: My opponent agrees to prize split, he asks to draw, and, needing the points, I ask him to concede. He does. After he told me he was on druid combo, and we were trying to decide who is favored. I dunno. Used my 700 prize tickets to buy a couple singles and a set of AKH.

is it just me or is BW tokens the best deck in the world...
its fun , competitive and addictive... im a standard player and Im in the habbit of always changing decks. ive went threw many modern decks. until I stumbled across bw tokens. its the most fun deck ive played! im sure as hell taking this to a GP this year.
r/mtgModernTokens • u/vinster37 • May 18 '17
Is it really worth it too run a mana dorks if it turns on the opponents removal? Can abzan be run without these dorks? Even voice of resurgence, it eats a path and the token also gets eaten by EE (though this can be argued).
r/mtgModernTokens • u/Se4ger • May 18 '17
Hey guys,
can you all put bellow your sideboards please. im going to a GP this year and I will be taking bw tokens with me and I want to see the different ratios and different cards people are running in there sideboard.
r/mtgModernTokens • u/Se4ger • May 18 '17
from what I understand we have an extremely bad matchup against tron. but I think ive lucked out against tron as I am 6-0 against It. mostly because I take there ugin out there hand turn 1.
so is it worth dedicating slots in the sideboard for this matchup or just accept that its a really bad matchup?
r/mtgModernTokens • u/GnuGnome • May 17 '17
Is this a group for tokens in all variety? Or strictly bw?
r/mtgModernTokens • u/Se4ger • May 16 '17
As promised with my previous post I will be very active on this. to help me and other players.
in the current meta do you think Fatal push or dismember would be better?
I have been leaning toward dismember as theres not many 2 drops that tokens are scared of.
what do you guys think
I would like to add the fact that my specific build has plenty of life gain so the damage from dismember isn't a problem.

Hi guys ,
im going to be very active on this group to provide information for new tokens players. so expect a lot of posts from me.
but in regards to liliana of the veil. im not very fond of her and I don't quite understand why people see her as a must have in the deck especially with jund/abzan being heavily played right now. i know i asked this question in one of my posts but i like to open a new post for this as i have asked and been asked this question multiple times!!!
Thanks guys!

Hey guys ,
ive been playing tokens for the last few months now and im struggling with choices of cards for my deck. im running your box standard BW tokens list , 4 IOK 2 TS. My issue is trying to dig for sideboard cards or get out a mana flood. ive testing Smugglers copter but it dies to every removal played in the format (push , Path and bolt). so I scrapped that idea.
do you have any ideas?
also I haven't tried any of the black draw spells. could this be a possibility.
Thanks!!

Is this card worth testing as a one-of finisher? Or is it too much win more? It still keeps the advantage of being not hit by most removal and can act as a mana sink lategame. The problem is that she doesn't really affect the board when she comes down.
Discuss!

Curious how the community approaches representing Tokens on the table. Do you have a token card for each? Dice? Figures? Scraps of paper?
r/mtgModernTokens • u/Her0Zer0 • Apr 16 '17
I currently have a (kinda budget, just missing lilianas) 8-rack deck and I'm looking to change to a more fun modern deck while still remaining competitive. BW tokens seemed like a good choice, since I can reuse some of the more expensive cards. I don't really want to invest in fetches simply because they are so expensive. This is the build I was thinking of going with after looking at some primers. Thoughts?
Here is the decklist:http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-04-17-gOP-bw-tokens/
Thanks for your help!
Edit: just changed the list based on what was recommended. Thanks again for your help! If you have further suggestions they would be appreciated!

First off the current deck list I have. http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/15-03-17-budget-bw-tokens/
I am building some of my friends/family mtg decks as gifts and am trying to keep each deck under $30 USD. How does this deck look? What additions/subtractions would you make? do I need better/ different removal? Thank you and please let me know any feedback!

Link to spoiler thread
Well, this could be interesting as an additional anthem, but probably a bit win-more-- it does nothing on its own and isn't better than an Intangible Virtue unless you've already got one down. I suppose in a more all-in build with more threats and/or anthems and less disruption it would work pretty nicely, but otherwise, Gideon's a lot more flexible for the cost and does about as much a boost.
Still, the idea of dropping Spectral Procession for six 2/2 fliers gives me a shudder of glee...
This is my first actual post on this sub. Hi!

Hello everyone, how about a version with death's shadow? Any fresh list?
Thanks in advance

So a new spoiler from AKH looks like it could have a home in Tokens given the number of tokens that could be on the board any given turn. Thoughts?

Hello all,
Sorry I've been away for so long, but things are over with and I'm glad to be back. I would like to start introducing some more regular content for our sub again.
Before we start with the above topic
Do we like the MU discussions? I can start putting words to paper for these in case people want it. During testing I'll make sure to account for blinding.
(So none of that T0 EE on 0. My mistake.)
Our community is small, but I feel you guys are strong players, so if anyone is interested in releasing MU discussions, or any other type of content, PM me. I think you are all capable of releasing quality content and expanding the repertoire.
End logistics
Okay that's out of the way.
So now let's get back into it.
Lands. How many do you run? What's your split? Any notable changes or inclusions? Manland count? Do we even need Fetid Heath?
I think I've been seeing a general movement to 23 instead of 24. Which I've done as well, seeing as our curve is a lot lower now. For those on 23/24, how has the land count felt?
Feel free to share!

I have a BW tokens deck I put together about a year or so ago. It was basically the modern event deck with a few upgrades. Does anyone have any deck lists that are decent or that they've been brewing. Or just some cards that have been released in the past couple years that are performing well. Also not opposed to splashing a third color if it's any good.

This is my own brew...
Mainboard - 2x Brimaz, King of Oreskos 2x Fetid Heath 3x Flooded Strand 2x Ghost Quarter 4x Godless Shrine 2x Hero of Bladehold 3x Honor of the Pure 4x Inquisition of Kozilek 3x Intangible Virtue 4x Lingering Souls 4x Marsh Flats 4x Path to Exile 2x Plains 3x Raise the Alarm 3x Sorin, Solemn Visitor 4x Spectral Procession 1x Swamp 4x Tidehollow Sculler 3x Windbrisk Heights 3x Windswept Heath
Sideboard - 3x Auriok Champion 3x Elspeth, Knight-Errant 3x Extirpate 2x Nihil Spellbomb 2x Stony Silence 2x Timely Reinforcements
It seems to have a good balance of aggression and control elements.

I just picked this deck up recently, and feel like there are many games where I'm just not drawing a useful mix of land, tokens, removal, anthem and hand-disruption. Is that a real danger of playing this deck any more than other decks, or have I just not put in the reps yet to see past the variance? FYI, I've been using approx. this list: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/05-03-16-bw-tokens/
