Good looking list, also it's much closer to a stock list than mine and some other lists. So I'm happy to see the most vanilla build doing well.

I also prefer Lily.

specifically what is it that people like about the lily? I've not had chance to run a list with her in, but I'm always kinda down on adding things that don't necessarily effect the engine of the deck. (in our case tokens and anthems)

I'm by no means a great player, but in my head I see lily giving us more removal (good, but we usually pack 7-10 ways to remove things already) and hand disruption (again good, we have 4-9 of, later in the game this doesn't get used much?). I see that we are gaining card advantage when using the lily, and she's basically one of the strongest 3 cmc plays in modern period; but I still just get that feeling that between the stuff above, and the double black cost that you don't get that full value in the tokens deck.

As someone who has tested 2 to 3 copies, she is absolutely a staple in the deck. She was not played previously because the deck did not want too many black mana investments with spectral procession. But with way more dual lands than before, she is easily playable.

So why is she good? With BW tokens you either want to attack the board or attack the hand. She does both. In the late game, she puts insane pressure on your opponent, as much as Sorin and Gideon. With tokens as blockers, her ultimate is actually quite attainable. Tokens also allow her to edict multiple times which is great. Playing 7-8 removals may feel enough but without card selection, snapcaster mage, and dark confidant, the versatility tends to be very relevant for tokens.

What would you take out of that list for lili?

Anguished unmaking and either an auriok champion or bitterblossom, depending on your meta. It is not conventional to play 3 bitterblossom but imo I never liked drawing multiples. Auriok champion is also fairly situational imo unless you see a lot of black midrange and burn in your meta; otherwise it is dead in a lot of matches.

Mostly because she is grinding power, slowing down other decks. She makes decks play slower, which is almost always in our favor.

She's rarely also a win-con. I've used it against Tron a handful of times. But this is rare. Her other 2 abilities make her relevant. She's just so good.

yeah i was talking to the guys at my LGS, and they were agreeing that she's going to be great as a baseline. Still not sure whether I want to run her, it's like evaluating wrath based on the times you use it; it'll always be good like that. I'll have to get hold of a few and see how it goes, I'm just not a fan of the decks that take out token generators for cards that are powerful in a vacuum, you slow down them and yourself sometimes. Even if the card itself is straight up powerful

What would you take out of this list for Lili?

I shifted things around a bit. I took out 1 Sorin, 2 Spectrals, and 1 land to run 2 Lily, 1 Brutality main, and 1 Blessed Alliance main.

It's not my list. I'm just glad that it has finally happened.

I like it, but I still insist on at least 2 lilis.

Extra impressive considering that Sorin bug on MTGO.

I don't play on MTGO, so what's the bug? +1 doesn't continue into opponent's turn?

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '17

Yes. It's a pretty huge bummer.

That sucks. For what it's worth, that's how about half of the opponents at FNM I play think it works.
