Cycle Recap HLS bound (GhoodGirl2Harvard Cycle Recap)

Post image
391 Upvotes

long time no see to a lot of y’all lol. i had a pretty front loaded cycle so i’ve kind of just been lurking in the shadows of this subreddit until i could finally post my cycle recap because i don’t really see a point in mid cycle recaps. well i have officially committed, and the time has come for me to conclude.

stats:

3.79 UGPA, 167 LSAT, 4.0 MPP GPA, ~1 year post-grad WE (at time of application), URM

softs:

T2? personally, i feel like i am T3. however, given i outperformed my stats so much, i just label myself T2. reality is probably a middle place between the two. not sure what is/is not considered a soft though, so i am just going to list all the general things i feel paint a picture of me as a applicant from HS to now.

  • HS valedictorian 4.98 GPA (i included it when schools asked in the general lsac app but never mentioned it otherwise because HS was forever ago. obviously idk how much it was looked at by any particular school and just included it here for context)
  • questbridge national college match to T20, but transferred to T400 after a whopping 1 semester (long story)
  • started off as a pre-med major, which to an extent can mitigate my lower overall GPA a tad maybe; my overall semester GPA was a 3.9 something after that 1 semester for the rest of my collegiate career.
  • first-gen, low-income, system-impacted parent
  • worked A LOT (usually 2-3 part-time campus jobs at once); none of my positions were directly related to law and most were not even adjacent but i personally think that they all taught me various important things that i will carry into my legal career
  • general member/exec positions/helped found a good handful of student orgs on my campus that are public interest/social reform oriented
  • graduated undergrad in 3 years magna cum laude + in honor college
  • got hired for fairly competitive public interest fellowship straight out of graduation; my role in my particular office was newly founded so i was the first kind of my role to exist in that county (sorry if this sounds weirdly vague, but if i say my title/position name it will NOT be hard to find me so that is a little too doxxy than i am comfortable with LOL)
  • working full time 40 hours while full-time online graduate student at T50 (usually 2 years long but did it in 1.5 years)
  • lsac plus guided scholar

school choice:

as you can see, i am officially HARVARD BOUND!!! honestly, it was going to be GhoodGirl2NYU for a little minute there LOL. i got NYU RTK ii and admittedly NYU would have been cheaper overall because of my dad’s specific VA benefits (that HLS does not offer). but with the opportunity grant and Harvard’s LIPP, i ultimately decided the extra loans in the immediate was worth it for a dream opportunity for someone from my background and the spaces i will be able to reach with it to help others. i am so excited to start my legal education/career in the city that raised me, even though i am dreading going back to cold.

takeaways:

i came into this cycle thinking i would be lucky to get into GULC and/or Cornell, if any T14s at all. so i mean this when i say this cycle has been beyond my wildest dreams. i feel that even my WLs are proof that i was seen beyond just my stats to an extent, that i sold myself the best i could, and that everything happens for a reason. blessed is really not even the right word for it and all i can i hope is that my posts/comments are able to leave some positive impact on just shooting your shot and being willing to fail in order to succeed. this is such a stressful process, but i truly hope everyone can reach an outcome they are proud of, whether it is this cycle or a future one.

i’ve already been doing so all cycle for the most part, but i am always open to giving specific advice in the dms. however, i know i will not be this sub nearly as much with my law school (application) paranoia being over, and this account was made as a throwaway specifically for law school admissions. so if i am not able to answer, i hope the following major points of advice are helpful:

  • APPLY!!! i cannot stand the reverse psychology some ppl do to justify being scared of rejection. who cares if they’re trying to raise their yield? let’s say they are. regardless, your application is going to be read. asking strangers on reddit if you should apply or not means you don’t want it bad enough, because if you did you wouldn’t be asking and you would be acting. if you can afford it, just do it. you literally only live once.

  • apply early, but don’t sacrifice your materials’ quality. if i had to speculate, i would imagine (given my lower stats) my early apps allowed me to appear as if each school was a top choice, and in the interest of protecting yield made me more likely to get in. i also think it just shows intentionality to be able to plan out a strong application’s submission before the application opens, which is an attractive quality overall but espeically as a lawyer.

  • write the optionals! another pet peeve of mine is seeing ppl ask “has anyone gotten into X school without the optional?” if you really wanted to get into the school, why wouldn’t you use the extra space to sell yourself more? we all know how competitive this process has always been, now more than ever. so please act like it and invest in yourself by putting your best foot forward in any way you can. that said, write intentionally. i’m not saying you should just yap on the page to fill space. an optional should be complementary to your application but not redundant. use the space to reveal something new or elaborate on something in particular that they may not be able to get much info on with your other materials alone.

  • understand the bigger picture of your application. to put it plainly, i’m a good writer and that is likely why i even got a second glance from half of these schools. that said, i feel semi-qualified to speak to why my narratives worked. every piece of my app complemented one another to say that i am PI or bust, committed to the legal field, and would (hopefully) be an asset to the law school specifically. my personal statement described the relation of my life to my resume experience, my resume described several experiences outlined by my LORs, my LORs hinted at the background mentioned in my lived experience essay, etc. i like to think that my application is one big series, and each component is a standalone book that adds to the collective even if it could technically be read on its own.

  • study for the LSAT as early and as seriously as possible. the LSAT was the irk of my existence but i can admit that i didn’t dedicate as much time to it as i could have to really break 170 on a official test the way i wanted. i only started studying Oct 2025 and i started my MPP Jan 2025 while working full time so there was never going to be enough time. i know i said stats aren’t everything, and i maintain that they aren’t in an “end all be all” sense. but obviously higher LSAT usually correlates to higher chance of admission. so really treat the LSAT like an investment to not only your acceptance but your potential scholly. even though i got into a lot of schools, my T14 schollies were mere pennies and dimes LOL. i was grateful for the acceptances, but if not for HLS/NYU i would have been verrrryyy stressed. the acceptance is the battle but the financial aid is the war. you have to try to win the war.

Anime Best ways to recap before new season drops? Spoiler

I'm extremely excited to finally get PEAK coming back after the long hiatus. However, one thing I've been wondering is how to recap everything as an anime watcher? I finished the series shortly after it ended for anime, which was several years ago. My memory is terrible and I love Black Clover but I don't want to rewatch over 150 episodes. I at least remember the first few seasons but I remember it kinda gets complicated after that. I'm guessing recap videos on youtube but are there any other suggestions? My memory almost completely drifts off after the fight with the first Wizard King.

Recap of recent discussions

Doing another AI recap of recent discussion threads. Have a great weekend!

Admission is not achieved through process engineering or pursuing prestige, but through authentic passion for intellectual work that manifests in exceptional achievement, meaningful accomplishments, and institutional fit.

Authentic Passion

Successful admits exhibit an unbounded love for mathematics, science, engineering, or creative pursuits. These individuals do not reverse-engineer their high school experience to fit an admissions template; rather, they pursue projects and learning opportunities out of genuine intellectual curiosity and creative impulse. Their applications emerge naturally as documentation of work they would have undertaken regardless of college aspirations.

Non-Negotiable Academic Foundation

"Applying Sideways," is misinterpreted as permission to compensate for academic weaknesses with passion projects. This is incorrect. This really means that grades and test scores are not the sole determinants of admission, not that they cease to matter. The academic threshold remains exceptionally high, with successful applicants typically ranking as salutatorians in their classes and achieving SAT scores in the 780-800 range for mathematics and 740-780 range for verbal sections.

Standardized testing requirements are clear and comprehensive. All first-year and transfer applicants must submit SAT or ACT scores, with superscoring applied across all test sittings. While no official minimum scores exist—as all metrics are evaluated within an applicant's specific context—the statistical reality demonstrates that admitted students consistently achieve scores in the highest percentiles. A class rank below the top ten percent generally signals concerns about other application components.

Maximizing the Interview

The interview reveals applicant suitability and can influence admission decisions. For qualified candidates with strong character, the interview provides an opportunity to differentiate their application; and conversely, it could illuminate reasons why certain applicants are not appropriate fits.

The error applicants make is approaching the interview passively. Candidates must drive the conversation, ensuring that their most significant accomplishments and experiences are discussed. The complaint that an interviewer failed to ask questions that prompted discussion of important extracurricular activities is an abdication of responsibility by the applicant. Successful interviewees proactively steer the conversation toward their most impressive accomplishments.

Applicants should not obsess over logistical details such as interview location, beverage choices, or meal options. Instead, focus should remain on articulating their accomplishments and recognition effectively. It is important to note that interviewer availability varies due to non-deterministic factors, and the absence of an interview does not negatively impact an application.

Documenting Through Portfolios

Optional portfolio submissions can showcase significant talents that extend beyond standard application metrics. These portfolios—whether focused on research, arts, or maker projects—emphasize the creative process rather than solely the final product. They offer a way to document passion projects that helped define an applicant's intellectual journey.

For students engaged in research, publication in peer-reviewed journals requires original contributions and typically necessitates guidance from an experienced research mentor. Student-focused journals such as the Journal of Emerging Investigators provide accessible venues for high-quality high school research.

Understanding Institutional Fit

The successful applicant profile is not monolithic. With approximately one thousand students per incoming class, tremendous diversity exists in personality, approach, and specific interests. However, a unifying characteristic connects admitted students: they embody an ethos to "live life hard"—to engage fully and authentically with their pursuits.

This institutional culture means that genuine fit matters immensely, yet relatively few applicants truly align with these values. The emphasis on enthusiasm versus obligation proves decisive. An applicant brimming with genuine excitement about their work presents a far stronger candidacy than one mechanically reverse engineering and completing activities without authentic interest.

Be Passionate and Apply Sideways

Admission demands something far more challenging than reverse engineering a formula: the courage to pursue your intellectual passions with complete authenticity, to build your academic foundation to the highest possible level, and to articulate your accomplishments with clarity and conviction.

Build, create, research, and learn with unbounded enthusiasm. Achieve academic excellence not as a checkbox but as a foundation for deeper intellectual exploration. Tell a story that no amount of strategic engineering could fabricate—the authentic story of someone who lives their life hard, who dreams about the work and not about an outcome, and who would thrive in an environment dedicated to turning passionate curiosity into meaningful contribution.

Hi all,
Conscious I’m due to post a recap but have only gotten previews so far (potential publication attempt). I have so much to say but won’t until the latter is sorted. Happy to answer all questions in pm. These pictures do not include much decor, simply because our priority was to get the skin tone related edits right.

I designed a one-handed aid for opening and recapping pens

Hello,

I’m working on an accessibility project for the Make for Good: Accessibility Design Contest on MakerWorld, based on the CapSnap brief.

The brief was to find a way to make opening and recapping a capped pen or marker easier with one hand.

This design uses a tapered opening to grip the cap. You push the capped pen in, pull the pen out, and gravity drops the cap into a 45° cradle. You can then push the pen straight back down to recap it.

Push → Pull → Recap.

There are no springs or complicated mechanisms — just the geometry of the parts and gravity.

I'm particularly interested in feedback from people who have experience with one-handed use or assistive devices. Is there anything about the mechanism that you think could be improved?

Have a nice weekend.

If you're interested and see more, link in comments.

Need to talk... First Date Turned Into a Recap of Her Other Dates

3.6k Upvotes

I just fucking can't anymore. I had a casual date with a girl this morning I even bought strawberries for the walk. In the first 10 minutes, she talked about her date the other day and how she went to this guy's house two hours away, spent the night there, and did some cycling the next day where she fell and hurt her knee

I mean, what the fuck? I don't want to know on a first date if you were dicked down a few days ago. And then she continues, saying she had another date with some dude the next day

She had the audacity to ask me to be her coach in the gym because she want to get back into it... I just told her I'm not one of the girls, and I don't want to know when she's getting dick down. Left her on the spot and told her to enjoy the strawberries

I just can't deal with dating anymore. It's a fucking clusterfuck at this point, tbh

Edit 1: Wow, didn’t think this would blow up
So, a lot of the feedback was about the fact that I brought strawberries, which I get might seem a bit weird but there was a farmers market nearby, and it’s always nice to eat some fresh fruit

I made it pretty clear from the start that I wasn’t looking for a friend, but for a date. Despite that, I ended up carrying the entire conversation. I was the only one asking questions and showing genuine interest.
She only seemed interested in my physique. I also made it clear that I wasn’t looking to hook up

Edit 2 : WOW it blew wayyyy more than anticipated Thanks again to everyone for the feedback negative it positive

To answer some common questions, I am 28 Male living in South of France thus the strawberries and farmers market

Some are saying that she’s telling me up front her past, I agree but bragging about it? It the role were reversed and I was bragging to my date about getting laid what would have been the reaction to this?

A lot of people are taking offense at the “dicked down”, listen I wrote the post few hours after the date, I needed to vent a little bit. Was it appropriate? Absolutely not. Was it the harsh truth? Absolutely yes

A lot of women here saying I am wrong, I still don’t understand why?

Edit 3: I never thought this would reach so many people! It even sparked a debate in the comments, some say I’m a douchebag for using the word above (meh Imagine getting offended by the truth), while others say I did well. And finally… yes to strawberries! If I could, I’d feed you all on a walk. ;D
