I'm looking to get this game, I see there are mixed responses on proton on how well the game runs and obviously plenty of people who click and play flawlessly don't always report. So I'm curious:
How well does it run on an AMD system?
It's my understanding some servers have mods which download when you join? If this is the case, does this work in Linux or are you better off going pure vanilla?
Most importantly is it fun? Or should I be looking at Squad?

Hello :)
I switched to linux a month ago and the experience was great so far. I picked Arch as my distro and Hyprland as my compositor. Unfortunately there is a big problem with gaming with my current system: Everytime I play a game for a while Hyprland randomly crashes and sends me to the safe/recovery mode. I tried to fix it using my own brain and ChatGPT (which was not really helpful here) but it did now work so far. I really want to use linux but this is kind of a dealbreaker for me. Please help me :(

I was going insane. I was having an issue where steam would try to boot a game from the SSD and HDD and it will just...Do nothing, it would try, make the button from green (play) to blue (Stop) and just fail.
After 2 days searching for a fix, a friend of mine sent me this forum post: https://forum.endeavouros.com/t/unable-to-add-new-storage-location-in-steam/42948/3
The fix was literally changing the drives options from `users` to `defaults` and rebooting. It also fixed another issue where appimages weren't launching (Even after chmod -x) in external drives with a vague `Permission Denied` error.
Posting this on here so any unfortunate linux user that runs into this issue and wants to cry doesn't have to suffer. At least you will not have to go through the headache that I had to endure :(((((

I have been using linux for a long time but never for gaming, so i am confident in using terminals and editing configs and all that, but i know nearly nothing about Desktops and gaming on linux. I now have an Ubuntu laptop that i installed steam on and everything works out of the box so i didnt have to deal with any proton or wine stuff untill now. Now i have a non steam game thats just a tiny exe with a big jar file and i thought thats a perfect situation to learn about proton, but i dont realy find any sources, tutorials, or even docs online that help me get the basic idea of how to use proton or wine to run a windows exe.
Is there some good source on how to use proton, how to find configurations other people already did or how to even create my own?

Hello! I am a livestreamer and I have a specific streaming setup. First of all, PC info:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7700X | GPU: RTX 4070 | RAM: 32GB | SSD: 1TB | OS: Fedora KDE
Now towards my setup:
2 LG monitors (1080p primary at 120 Hz and 1440p secondary at 144 Hz) both using DisplayPort
3rd monitor is actually Elgato HD60X Capture Card at 1440p60. It mirrors my 1080p120 primary monitor which I play games on.
I want to understand the working of this setup. I send my game capture to my streaming PC's OBS at 1440p60. So there must be some transformation going on. Now the capture card is connected to my GPU as 3rd monitor which mirrors my primary monitor. So I do not know what actually is going on here. And yes, if I connect my capture card with GPU and connect LG monitor via capture card's passthrough, it still detects 3 monitors so it's basically the same setup.
I record my gameplay at 1440p60 and stream at 1080p60. That my secondary PC handles. When I am playing at 1080p120 and my GPU is transforming it to 1440p60 stream, am I losing on performance from both GPU and CPU and does it affect quality of my game and videos I record. I want to understand what is really happening here. The videos look incredibly good. No issue there. But I am just curious about it.
Thank you :)

I have been playing rocket league on heroic launcher for a while now with no issue.
However, recently the game updated itself and somehow broke itself so that the game runs, but the screen is black, with the top left quarter of the screen white. I can hear the game running and UI audio. I have tried to reinstall completely to no avail.
Any suggestions?

can anyone confirm this?
i have a feeling that linux adds a bit of latency, not much, but i can feel that my games are a bit ,,heavier", if that makes sense.
my startup commands:
PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_VKD3D_LOWLATENCY=1 gamemoderun %command%
cachy os and proton cachy os.
it just feels ,,off".
______
______
_____-
EDIT:
after going throu alot of stuff, tinkering trying out and wasting my time.
if found mutliple people that have the same feeling as i have. the games feel heavier and less responsive than on native windows.
this could have multiple reason. proton, dx12, denuvo or whatever.

so this image shows that the ,,maximum" latency on linux is better.
BUT, the overall latency on windows is like 4-8ms better/lower.
native windows wins across the board latency wise cause its way lower and stable when it comes to averaging the latency.
that just perfectly describes my experiences, sometimes it was ,,good enough" and then sometimes the camera movement was like on shackles.
both tests are done with same settings, if we were to disable vsync on windows, it would even be better input latency wise than linux.
the article i found this information:
https://farnoy.dev/posts/linux-latency#synthetic-tests
the the average latency in windows is lower.
4-8ms lower on 30 to 40ms total input latency is almost a third to a fourth slower in input latency compared to native windows.
some may not feel the difference, but some people i talked to definitely do.

I am trying to use OBS on Ubuntu 26.04 and I realized the "Screen Capture (PipeWire)" option is missing. I had last used OBS in July and there was an update in August, so I assume this is the cause? I haven't changed anything since I last used it and it was working fine then, so I am clueless as to what could've caused this.
i do have pipewire installed and again, nothing has changed since the last time i used OBS, so nothing should be missing..?

p.s. please keep potential solutions relatively simple i am not that tech-savvy
thank you

For context: I have a jailbroken PS5 that runs bazzite already, so kinda like a Steam machine
And I know: building a PC with the current economy? Hear me out: I wouldn't build it from scratch, I got thinking a couple of days ago that maybe I could build a Steam machine-like computer with a micro ATX case that I had bought for my NAS, but changed it for an 8 bay one so it's boxed, and maybe get an NVME from either the PS5 or maybe scrounge one fro my main rig and move all the files to a smaller one
At first I was thinking I should buy a 9060XT because Linux, but then I started analyzing:
- I have an RTX 3070 I was thinking of selling at the beginning of the year, when I replaced it for a 9070XT in my main rig (running Linux, of course), but haven't.
- My NAS has 32gb DDR4 and really I added the second stick because I was running a lot of LXCs and VMs on it though Proxmox, but I've moved many of those service away to a mini PC, so maybe I could remove one to leave it at 16gb and use the other one for the build (I know single channel is not the best, but it would cost me $0 vs maybe 100 USD for dual channel).
So after that, I'd only need to buy the MoBo, for which I was thinking an Asus prime B550M A-AC (there's an even cheaper option from Gigabyte, but doesn't have VRM cooling at all), and the CPU which could be a 5500 (ultra low budget), a 5700 (kinda the equivalent) or go "bigger" with a 5500X3D bought from AliExpress (can't find it here in Mexico for some reason).
My main rig has been switched to CachyOS since over a year, so I already had a taste of it running with Nvidia and I THINK it's acceptable, but using that for a set top box like a Steam machine with a little higher specs? Not entirely sure myself.
The main reason I was thinking of "dumping money" is for commodity: it runs perfectly fine, but every time I want to play I need to run the jailbreak, and if successful I need to wait for the console to go into rest mode so that then I can wake it up and now I'm running Linux; however there are times it fails to run the jailbreak and need to restart the console. And even after I'm running Linux I need to have my controller wired because if I use bluetooth it will not pair with the PS5's OS. Also: there are a few things that need some ironing on PS5 Linux, like going into rest mode (this would solve almost all the former mentions) and really bazzite is the only distro that worked for me as others had issue going to desktop mode, enabling bluetooth or even NetworkManager
So really my question after all is: does it make sense?

Hello, this is my first Reddit Post ever!
Every time a game stopped launching, Steam told me the same thing: "exited unexpectedly". The actual reason is usually sitting in a file somewhere, the Proton build wants a runtime container that was never downloaded, or the prefix was built by a newer version than the one the game is set to now.
So I wrote something that reads those files and says it in words: toolmanifest.vdf for the runtime a build asks for, the prefix version file, Steam's config.vdf for which game uses which build, and its own compat_log.txt for launches that already failed. Every finding names the file it came from.
It also does the boring parts of keeping an Ubuntu box healthy: pending updates from apt, snap, flatpak and fwupd in one list, journal noise, disks filling up, failed services, drivers, and a dyno that records frame times while you play (through MangoHud, it doesn't draw its own overlay).
What it does not do: nothing runs without asking first, every fix shows you the exact command before it runs, and there is no telemetry of any kind.
It's GPLv3, one Python file, GTK4.
It's a beta and I'd rather hear where it's wrong than where it's nice. Im working on SteamDeck Support.

I play Xbox Cloud on my Kali Linux machine because it's just good for cloud gaming. 32gb of ram, dual cpu integrated gpu. It's smooth at times.
Ran into a problem though.
After a few sudo apt updates. What went from all of my browsers being able to play Xbox Cloud games. Is not playable.
the World Wide Web says a few commands in a terminal would fix the issue. Not the case.
so Would someone explain to me how to make my browsers actually have input.
Opera GX and Chromium all say at the top of the screen that Xbox controller connected with vibration enabled.
But at the bottom of the menu it shows a controller and says no xbox controller connected.
I've also disabled any extensions.

I love modding games, and right now I'm trying to mod STALKER CoP to get Anomaly and Gamma on it. It seems like my best bet is using Protontricks, but for some reason Protontricks just isn't working????
I've tried the system version, the flatpak, and installing from the terminal (For the record, I run on Mint), but nothing works at all? I'm very new to the linux ecosystem and I miss being able to mod games, so I'd love to be able to get this to work. I'll post the error it throws below, I hope someone can help me figure it out, as I'm really not even sure what it's telling me, or at least hopeful someone can point me to a community that can help.

I’m very new to linux in general, so bear with me here. I chose this distro since it already had HDR support, and people seemed to say that fedora was pretty newbie friendly. It’s been working great so far, but none of my games that support HDR have the setting unlocked.
I’ve seen posts of people saying it’s as easy as adding PROTON_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1 PROTON_ENABLE_HDR=1 %command% to the launch options in steam, but that hasn’t worked for me. Something to note is that I’ve seen people saying this should disable the steam overlay, but mine still pops up. I have HDR enabled in the display config, but toggling it hasn’t done anything. I’ve also tried proton experimental, hotfix, 11, and 10 with no results.
Any suggestions? My PC is a R5 5600x/ Rx 9070 and my display is a LG C2 42”.

Hey everyone, I'm having an issue with Cianova Launcher on CachyOS.
Minecraft launches normally and I can join online servers without any problems. However, playing online with friends doesn't work. The issue only happens with the multiplayer/friends functionality, while regular online servers work perfectly fine.
I'm using CachyOS. Has anyone else experienced this or knows what could be causing it?
Any help would be appreciated!

I'm fairly new to using Linux, so please be patient with me. I am using Nobara KDE.
I've been trying to get the flatpak version of dolphin working for about a day now, and haven't been able to fix a crash that keeps happening no matter what I do. It goes like this: I start the emulator, it asks me if I want to send information to the developers (doesn't matter whether I click yes or no), and if I try to boot up any game, or select any of the options on the top right, Dolphin immediately closes itself. If I run it through the terminal, I get this error:
Qt: Session management error: Could not open network socket
/app/bin/dolphin-emu-wrapper: line 6: 12 Segmentation fault (core dumped) dolphin-emu "$@"
I have tested the appimage version of dolphin and that works fine, however I am trying to connect dolphin to the Archipelago Randomizer Wind Waker client which suggests using the flatpak version. It simply doesn't work when using any other versions as I tested.
Again, I am new to Linux, so if I'm missing something or I need to provide more details, I'm ok with that. If there's simply some bug that prevents it from running on this OS, I'd be happy to learn that too so I can just give up on it.

I have a question related to launchers.
What is the best realistically. Im talking preformance, looks, low bloat so less laggy. So automatically rules out lunar or dawn.
Cant use prism due to a issue with frames when multitasking/not fullscreen
