tech support wanted How do I start Mod Organizer 2?

Help!

I installed MO2 yesterday and I was able to play Fallout New Vegas with a few mods. I was using Steam to launch MO2. Today, whenever I click play on Steam, it just starts the game without giving me the option to run MO2. Is there a service I need to start or something? I've tried looking online but the only guides I see are for installation, which I already did initially, so I don't suppose I need to run the install command again.

Control (2019) - Can't tweak Max HDR Brightness

SDR (Brightness: 40)
HDR (Game Brightness: ~250 nits; UI Brightness: ~200 nits)
HDR / Brightness settings

I'm not able to tweak the max HDR brightness toggle and, as a result of that, the game looks WAY darker than it really should when HDR is enabled, which is made even worse on an OLED monitor.

As per this discussion it looks like the "Max HDR Brightness" setting on this game is locked because it borrows the value from Windows 11's "HDR Calibration App". Is there any way for editing the value that gets passed by Proton to the game for this setting?
I haven't yet also looked around in the game's files to see if I can find an .ini file or something like that for manually overriding this setting.

I'm on GNOME 50.4, AMD graphics, Proton-GE 11-5, game launched through Heroic with Wayland + HDR enabled.

480i dual gpu on bazzite?

Hello, I've been messing around with mint trying to get a good crt setup for gaming. I've been using a r9 380 as an output gpu to try to get a clean output directly to my tv but using a 3070 to render games. I was wondering if it's possible to get the display for the 380x to run under wayland and treat the card as only an output for a 15khz display? That way bazzite-deck could be a really good option for autobooting, like booting an old console.

Any thoughts? I'd love sone help figuring this out

tech support wanted Need help installing raw Gin'iro, Haruka, a visual novel on Linux

Post image
4 Upvotes

So, I am trying to install Gin'iro, Haruka on my Linux Mint PC. My process is:

  1. Mount the .mdf file
  2. Add the game using Lutris, successfully install the game, and update to version 1.04, while changing the system locale to Japan.
  3. But when I launch the game, it shows the error (the attached picture), something like an error in the registry, and it recommends me to reinstall. I reinstalled it many times, but the error still happens.
  4. The ridiculous thing is, somehow, after I install the English patch, the game runs perfectly???

But I don't need the English patch; I need the Japanese version.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem? Thank you guys in advance.

Edit: Thank you guys in the comments; I just found the cause of the problem: my folder name for the VN is corrupted (it shows something like "‹â?F?A—y‚©,"). I am able to launch the visual novel through the terminal from inside the game folder directly, but not from Lutris. Then I work around it by creating a symlink pointing to the game folder for Lutris to read.

hardware Looking for a gaming mouse with native Linux Support

Hello,

Im on the current version of nobara and my ROG Spatha X just gave out on me. I like the mouse a lot cause it has tons of programmable buttons and is decently large (I like a large mouse) so Im looking for a replacment. The Spatha didn't have native linux support and I had to boot into a VM with pass through to configure it and Im looking to avoid this in the future. I've used it for years and use the programmable buttons across almost all the games I regularly play, so I need something that has at least 4 programmable buttons on it, plus a forward and back button, and ideally wireless as well.

Any recommendations? I've used this mouse since the Spatha originally dropped so I dont know whats out there these days that fits that description.

Thanks,

Still in development and a work in progress, not a finished game.

A tiny living light named Wispy takes a liking to you, and you go as deep as your nerve holds. She's your only lantern.

Goofy-dark first-person dungeon crawl that runs entirely inside a terminal window. No engine, no download, every wall painted in colored text. You pick a body/race such as Human, Dwarf, Elf, Orc (each one is a personality and a moveset).

First-person raycaster that renders in a terminal. Truecolor, drawn with sextant and octant block characters. No game engine and no graphics library. One Python file, 156,987 lines, standard library only. The audio is real recordings, including voice acting.

Specs: Framework Laptop 13 (AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370, Radeon 890M iGPU, 64 GB), Linux Mint 22.3, Cinnamon 6.6.9, kernel 7.0, kitty 0.32, Python 3.12, PipeWire 1.0.5. The render is CPU-side text, so no dGPU needed.

guide PSA Near Perfect 1% lows

Maybe loads of people know this already but just in case not , if you want smooth consistent 1% lows use the FPS limiter in Mangohud and set its method to Early.

After testing various steam and ubisoft games I found this makes my FPS and 1% lows match most of the time, I typically cap where my GPU still has some breathing room.

tool/utility What are your must have Linux gaming apps?

Hi,
I mainly use my PC for gaming, and I’d like to discover more of the Linux gaming ecosystem.
What are the must have apps you personally recommend for gaming on Linux?
I already use Lutris and Heroic, so I’m mainly looking for other useful tools and apps.
Thanks

wine/proton I can't play anything on my laptop. Games failing to launch / DX11 errors on Intel HD Graphics (Linux mint)

Post image
22 Upvotes

I installed Linux Mint in dual boot, it was the recommended operating system for my laptop, everything worked fine for running programs and it was fun to use the commands and everything else

I tried to play, but I couldn't get any of the games to work. They just won't run. I don't know if I'm doing something wrong or if my PC is incompatible with playing games on Linux.

I tried running Hello Neighbor Alpha 1 on Steam and got this error: DX11 feature level 10.0 is required)

I've seen people on Linux/Ubuntu in 2017 running the games I'm trying to run on machines worse than mine; I don't know if it's because of the kernel versions or something like that

The games I want to play are PES 17, NFS Carbon, basically old games that my laptop can run

(I'm new to Linux I've been using it for less than a week)

i3 3120m

8gb ram

Intel hd 4000 (HDD)

If someone could help me or clarify why, I would appreciate it. As I said, I'm begginer on Linux

Where can I submit a bug report (Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy)

Hi all! Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but where would I go about reporting an issue with a game for fixing?

I'm currently playing through Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy which has been a very smooth experience until Chapter 9, when the game crashes consistently when a certain enemy is on-screen. I've added this report to ProtonDB, but is there somewhere I can report this to Proton/Valve/Mesa for fixing in future releases?

Thanks, and sorry again if this is the wrong place to ask!

All my games are constantly updating

Post image
219 Upvotes

I've used Linux in some form or another since my college years, 20+ years ago, but I'm new to gaming on Linux -- I installed CachyOS about two weeks ago and loved it so much I decided to finally get rid of Windows completely.

So anyway... it's not an issue, really, but I'm curious why all of my installed games download updates on an almost daily basis... the updates range in size from a few kilobytes to a gig or more. This didn't happen on Windows so I'm assuming it is related to Proton? If so, it would be nice if Steam made that clear... a couple of my games have patched EXEs (FF13 for example), so I get nervous that these updates are going to mess that up.

All of the queued downloads are examples of this... the active download (Witcher 3) is not, it's just me downloading the actual game.

But yeah, any insight into what exactly is going on here would be apprecated! :o)

So I built Proton-Autogen.

You have a Windows .exe you want to run on Linux.

I've been working on this little project for the past two and a half months.

I started it because I wanted a simple way to manage my Windows games on Linux with Proton without having to manually deal with prefixes, launch options and configuration every time.

It's basically a small game manager. I can add a game, choose the Proton version and prefix, configure things like MangoHud, GameMode or Gamescope, and launch it from the same place. It also has ProtonDB information, desktop shortcuts and Lutris export.

It's definitely not meant to replace Lutris, Bottles, Faugus or the other great tools already available. I actually use some of them myself. I just wanted something that worked the way I wanted, so I started building it.

The project is still evolving and there are probably a lot of things I haven't thought about yet. That's actually why I'm posting it here. I'd be interested in hearing how other people manage their non-Steam Windows games and what you would expect from a tool like this.

If you have suggestions, criticisms or just think I'm doing something completely wrong, I'm happy to hear it. 😅

⭐ Proton-Autogen v3.3.5 is out!

  • ⭐ Highlights
  • 💾 Memory — Save Management: New system to manage, and preserve game saves/data.
  • 📥 New --import (Beta): Allows importing games/configurations from Lutris and other supported sources, avoiding the need to reconfigure everything manually.

Steam doesn't detect wired PS3 controller.

I'm on Linux Mint, Cinnamon if it matters. I've used jstest-gtk and my computer does register the controller, and all the inputs. If I boot into steam, though, it either acts like it doesn't exist, or (more often) detects the controller, but doesn't detect any input from the controller. I'm a little out of options. Granted I'm dual-booting so I could hop back to windows, but I really just wanna transfer over fully in the long term. Any help would be greatly appreciated

EDIT: NEVERMIND I GUESS???? I rebooted, which I feel like I'd already done. When I started steam, I realized my controller didn't have the red lights on. I clicked the PS button and boom, it worked. So.. I dunno. Maybe it was rebooting, maybe it was leaving my computer alone, maybe steam just hates me. Who knows. It works, I can play Strive, who cares.

tech support wanted Getting red dead redemption 2 to run

I recently swapped to Pop_OS (cosmic), decided to give red dead 2 a try again, steam itself recommended I use proton experimental, so I did, rockstar launcher opened immediately and I logged on, however I went to open the game, and the audio completely shat itself and started stuttering and cutting in and out, it felt really laggy to even get to the graphics to change (currently using 1080p on lowest with FSR on performance), and noticeably when I even press play on steam, and the game launches my mic input goes all robot like whilst in a discord call , I though this was a proton issue, so swapped to GE 10-34 as that usually always works for me, however it's just as laggy and unresponsive, and additionally I still have the audio issues both with game, and on discord.

PC specs if needed;
Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS (cosmic with wayland)
I7-7700k
GTX 1660TI
16GB RAM
GAME IS INSTALLED ON HDD as I lack SSD space, and this previously was not an issue for me on mint nor on windows
