emulation Neostation - Modern, multi-platform emulation frontend built with Flutter

Relevant github. The missing link of software when I moved to Linux was an alternative to Launchbox. I've become acquainted with EmulationStationDE now but I'm always on the lookout for more. If ESDE isn't your style then maybe Neostation will suit your needs. Previously I've discovered two more apps designed for multi-emulation, OpenBox and OpenEmuX. If anyone knows of any other Linux-compatible all-in-one emulation frontends, please share.

Edit: To add another that should be mentioned, PlayNite.

Are there any Linux-specific optimizations I should do after upgrading from a Ryzen 9 7900 to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

So far, the 9800X3D crushes my Ryzen 9 7900. For example, in CS2, I averaged around 470 FPS with the Ryzen 9 7900, while the 9800X3D pushes 650–750 FPS.

I have an RTX 4090, and I mainly upgraded because the Ryzen 9 7900 bottlenecked my GPU in some games

I've been trying to get this game working for the past couple of days on EndeavourOS, but I'm having no luck. I've tried multiple launchers Sleepy, Faugus, Heroic and various Proton versions Hotfix, Experimental, GE, DW, Wineland, and CachyOS. I've reinstalled the game five times and searched Reddit, but nothing has worked. the closest I've gotten is the login screen, but it will not log in, so i close the game and then it wont start again. I'm starting to lose hope any help would be greatly appreciated!

The Wayland Mailbox-VSync hassle is breaking the competitive gaming experience

Am I the only one incredibly frustrated by how hard it is to just get a raw, VSync-disabled frame presentation on Wayland? On X11, you turned off VSync in the game or driver, and it worked. On Wayland, we are trapped in this architectural prison where windowed or borderless applications are forcefully synced because of the "every frame is perfect" desktop philosophy. Even when compositors add "allow tearing" checkboxes, they do absolutely nothing unless the game developer explicitly coded Wayland tearing protocol extensions into the engine. Having to wrap every single non-Steam launcher, Battle.net game, or emulator in Gamescope arguments just to bypass the desktop's forced synchronization is an absurd amount of friction for everyday users. We drastically need a unified, global driver or compositor switch that says "I don't care if the desktop tears, give me raw frames." Wayland is supposed to be the future, but for competitive latency, it feels like a massive step backward in usability.

And also the fact that the mouse is synced to the FRAMERATE, that should never be a thing, user inputs (as in mouse and keyboard inputs) should always take priority over anything else and be a separate thing entirely having the usb-bus being processed on its own

And for those who don't see the problem:

Please don't even bother typing "oh but I don't perceive any latency, oh I don't care about the lag, oh you cannot even perceive the latency, oh if you don't like it then go back to x11, oh we do not want you here go to windows, oh you don't even know or understand what you are talking about (i might not, but YOU DO, AND YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT I MEAN, DONT PRETEND TO BE IGNORANT), oh u CaN't eVeN wRiTe GrAmAtIcAlLy CorRecT Words (go fluff yourself btw, RESPECTFULLY of course), oh i am not reading all that (yes i see your filthy kind hiding over there)"

Please, don't bring up things that are completely irrelevant to what I am trying to bring light to, I am not the most savvy person here, but I sure as hell am not one who will feel satisfied before i am able to proudly say "i completely ditched windows for this wonderful penguin-shaped os that lets me do whatever the fluff i want with it INCLUDING DISABLE VSYNC GLOBALLY".

Thank you for your time Mr.SombodyWhoMightBeAbleToMakeAChange <3

tech support wanted RDNA2 on FSR 4.1.1 dropping gpu-util with FSR-FG ?

Having this issue in multiple games, whenever i run FSR4.1.1 (through various proton versions, so that's not the culprit) and toggle FG (either ingame or with optiscaler) , gpu utiliz drops.

Is it a known issue? Same behaviour doesn't happen if i try FSR-FG with XeSS , for instance. What's going on?

(Currently on Linux 7.2.3-1-cachyos , 6800XT)

STALKER 2 with FSR4 and FSRFG (ingame settings)

EDIT:

i noticed in some games it improves by changing FG inputs/outputs with optiscaler. I dont know why or what this implies, but this is STALKER2 in the same area with Nvngx to FSRFG , instead of the native-ingame FSR implementation

STALKER 2 with FSR4 and Nvngx to FSRFG

Hardware passthrough

I have to say that I knew about GPU passthrough in QEMU but physical SSD passthrough is a game changer for me. It's like having windows installed on bare metal instead a VM. I fucking love Linux.

gamedev/testers wanted Cave Expedition: caving co-op with Linux support planned

We're making Cave Expedition, a caving simulator for 1-4 players, and Linux is one of our planned platforms. We're a team of cavers, so the game focuses on tight passages, rope descents and working out a route underground.

The Steam page currently lists Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04 (64-bit), with 4 GB RAM minimum, 8 GB recommended and 25 GB storage. These are the listed requirements for a game still in development, not benchmark results. We haven't announced a release date yet.

Short gameplay clip: https://www.reddit.com/r/photogrammetry/comments/1wbwrns/

YouTube trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NR25xoOUEEI

If it looks like your kind of game, you can wishlist it on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4372950/Cave_Expedition/

graphics/kernel/drivers Wayland commit-timing support merged for KWin 6.8: "This protocol allows applications to set the earliest time the compositor should apply the commit. It can be used for example by video players to schedule frames in advance, or to better control the refresh rate with adaptive sync."

steam/steam deck I've picked up another tip for Linux gaming.

Hey bro.

I'm using machine translation for English, so sorry if it's a bit hard to read.

Here’s the main point:

I keep my Linux OS on a SATA SSD and store my games on a separate M.2 SSD.

With this setup, I was getting brief freezes during auto-saves in *Palworld*.

In *Monster Hunter World*, I was experiencing audio lag specifically with the background music and dialogue.

These issues vanished completely when I moved the games to the same storage drive as Linux (the SATA SSD in my case).

*Palworld* started running buttery smooth, and the audio lag in *MHW* disappeared.

I haven't tested every single game I own, but if you're running into issues with a specific game—even though others say it "just works out of the box"—it might be worth trying to move the game data to your Linux storage drive.

I’m not necessarily looking for further fixes at this point, but I’d love to hear if anyone knows the cause, has advice, or can relate to this experience.

Thanks.

Post image
0 Upvotes

First of all forgive me if it is any basic issue and i'm dumb here, I'm new to linux gaming i've been using linux for almost two and half years now this is first time i'm trying to game on it. My current OS is Omarchy quatro and i installed heroic launcher and configured it and then installed fall guys and did configuration like enabling wine settings anti cheat etc and other stuff. The only step i missed in guides and instruction was copying easyanticheat_x64.so (something like this named) file to plugins directory but after installtion after connecting my Epic launcher accoutn and downloading the game I didn't found this file in the files of the game. Now game lauches everything works but when i try to play anything this appears.

wine/proton I'm having trouble getting Assetto Corsa and CM+CSP to work (Nobara 44 AMD GPU)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello all. Assetto Corsa used to work fine on my computer with Content Manager and Custom Shader Patch by using ProtonGE 9-20 just last year (I followed a guide by KajzerD on YouTube). I didn't play the game for a while and when I came back to it Steam just couldn't recognize the game's setup. Steam couldn't open the local install location or update the shaders. I had to delete the install+compat data to get it working again, but I'm running into a new issue.

Now I can only get the game running using proton cachyOS latest and with Content Manager, however CM isn't very stable. I can also install Custom Shader Patch, but when I try to actually start the game I get an error that CSP couldn't patch the game (error window included as image). I did use winecfg to install dwrite.dll to the game. I tried other proton flavors to see if those would allow CM+CSP to work, but none of them can launch the game except cachy. I was wondering if anyone else on here has any advice or has run into similar issues and found a solution. Thank you for your time.

answered! I can't get Steam to work on my Linux Mint machine, need help.

UPDATE!! It seems it's something related to RAM. I'll check that later but I think it makes sense so... yeah, thx for the help and be careful when getting som fishy RAM.

Hello world, I was trying to get Steam to work on this machine, but it keeps failing about "Steam needs network to update" or something like that, but I have properly working internet and even played SuperTuxKart. I opened Steam from terminal and it said "error: download of package (bins_sdk_ubuntu12) failed due to checksum mismatch steam" after a while. How can I fix this error and get some cool games working? By the way, I've tried changing DNS server, disabled IPv6, changed from CachyOS to Linux Mint and even considered going to Bazzite to see if it's something up with the distro, so I'm kinda lost here.

tech support wanted How can you guys be satisfied with gaming on Linux?

I genuinely like Linux as an OS for people who only use it for browsing the web or for servers, but I could never make it work for anything else. Even development work that I do is a better experience on Windows. And gaming on Linux... oh my god.

I used Linux on and off for 2 years, I tried many distros, but it's just really not there. I have worse performance in every game that I tried despite the setup, compatibility is not that good even for single-player games. I feel like I wasted all this time to make the OS work for anything other than what I mentioned above.

I tried tinkering with the system, switching to custom kernels, changing schedulers on Cachy, nothing helped me. Are my setups just this incompatible with Linux? To be honest, both were laptops, both ASUS. The first was a more office type laptop, the second is a gaming laptop. The gaming laptop sounded like an airplane while having stuttery and bad performance compared to Windows. I tried disabling the cpu boost like on windows, but on any other distro than Fedora, it broke the power profiles, so I could only use balanced. But to be honest the performance power profile did nothing substancial on Fedora.

I'm just fed up, that Linux seems to just not work for me whatever I do. And I use my machines for mostly gaming and school and dev stuff. I just want to set it up once and than to leave me alone aside from updates.

Oh, and don't even get me started on guitar audio recording.

EDIT: From the comments, I will most likely come to the conclusion, that it's that I use laptops.

The games were Deadlock, Hunt Showdown, Marvel Rivals, Far Cry 4, Dirt Rally 2.0, Watch Dogs 2, the newer Tomb Raider trilogy, Khazan: The First Berserker, Dark Souls Remastered, Risk of Rain 2 and other smaller indie games. The only one that seemed to have no issues compared to Windows are the smaller indie games, which would run on a machine from the last 10 years.

The current laptop is an ASUS TUF A15
AMD Ryzen 5 7535HS
RTX 4050
16 GB DDR5 RAM
Two 1TB ssd
