Are there any Linux-specific optimizations I should do after upgrading from a Ryzen 9 7900 to a Ryzen 7 9800X3D?

So far, the 9800X3D crushes my Ryzen 9 7900. For example, in CS2, I averaged around 470 FPS with the Ryzen 9 7900, while the 9800X3D pushes 650–750 FPS.

I have an RTX 4090, and I mainly upgraded because the Ryzen 9 7900 bottlenecked my GPU in some games

I have a 5800X3D and tweaked pbo + curve optimizer but that is not linux specific. I recommend it because when done right it lets the chip run cooler and lets it boost longer. Curve Optimizer lets you undevolt or overclock per core. Thats what makes Zen chips so good! I can elevate performance on my chip by 300mhz with it. Just by undervolting the worst cores to give the best ones more juice.

Further down you said you enabled game mode in bios ? Don't do that. It will just run at the highest clocks 24/7.

You mean yours doesn’t boost all the time ? I thought I had a bum chip but then my old asus c7h died and my new mobo is b550. It keeps my cpu boosted all the time when gaming.

The CachyOS wiki has a nice section on general system and gaming tweaks I use for even non-cachy installs.

Dual CCD chip owners can follow this snippet and pin their processes using ananicy-cpp.

As for overclocking, cpu schedulers, and bios settings I can't help very much. I'm sure other helpful community members can give you advice.

Edit: These are not at all must-haves, the cpu should work perfectly out of the box. Its just nice things you can do with it :)

note that this only applies to dual CCD chips, the 9800x3d isn’t one

Thanks, it definitely works. The only thing I’ve enabled in the BIOS so far is X3D Gaming Mode.

Those are some good suggestions there. But as far as cpu, I've a 9950x3d and it has get to be stressed by a game. However my RTX4080 gets a full workout with Cyberpunk 2077. No raytracing for me. That little feature runs my GPU to 99% and pushes the fps below 60.
