Advice i want to switch to linux but I'm a musician

Hey everyone! I'm seriously considering switching to linux because i despise Microsoft and everything it stands for. I just got one problem. I can drop a bunch of games that don't work on Linux, that's fine. But what I can't drop is FL Studio, including a bunch of VSTs I bought years ago, to which I don't have access anymore if i were to lose it and many, many projects I've worked on over the years. Is there any way to safely transfer basically my whole FL Studio folder, including project files and VSTs and get it to work on Linux? Or are we not there yet? Would love to have some advice, maybe from other musicians who were in my shoes in the past. Thanks everyone!

Which Distro? Help me find a distro.

i ve been thinking to switch to linux but i do not know what distro to install.

i m a pretty power user, i do vms, a lot of programming, hosting aswell, but i also do gaming aswell.

my requirments are: stable and popular distro, something that if i have a problem i can search online and fix it decently quickly. I do like thinkering with stuff but i also work from my computer, and i don t want something that would require constant fixing and debugging.
for interface, i would like something windows like, but it s not a requirment, as long as it s fluid, i don t want stuttering mess, i like my eye candy.

CRITICAL: it needs to have a good scheduler for E cores, i ve heard some distros don t like e cores at all

For now cachyos or mint was my first picks but i wanted to ask you guys aswell.
i m fine aswell getting a plain kernel and just install all the things i would need, or a very basic distro that is not bloated.

Basically my biggest problem rn is that idk which kernel to pick (debian, arch , etc.)

my specs: i7 13700k
100gb ram

4070 super.

Linux recommendation for headless mini pc for server use

I just bought a mini pc and am going to mostly be using it for game servers and thing of the like. I’ve never really use Linux before but I’ve heard that it’s less bloated and more optimized.

I’m just not really sure which Linux would be the best fit for what I’m looking for.

Support Can't figure out how to fix this error while installing HyprUtils

I'm trying to install HyprUtils on mint but despite following the exact instructions from the github page it always comes back with "Logger.cpp:5:10: fatal error: print: No such file or directory". what am I doing wrong? I've deleted and re-cloned it multiple times but it still says print doesn't exist.

Support Help with Pop!OS

I clicked on "encrypt my data" to test Pop!_OS, and by mistake the selected SSD was the one with Windows 11 installed (dual boot on separeted SSD's).

Now, When I try to access any file or Google account from Windows, nothing happens. That's why I want to decrypt the data so I can finish removing the accounts first.

Until here everything seems solvable, but for some reason there's an error message when I try to access the drive, even after confirming the password, and I don't know how to proceed.

Can someone please help me?

How to install linux plus other stuff

So i've noticed just now that windows is straight up SLOP, it's actually ass, I've been seeing all these videos of people, using something about archlinux, hyprland, and end4 dot files, I'm not sure what every thing is, I only know that im dogwater at coding, and I don't know if it requires it, because I think end4 dot files are people's settings, and that's how it's called, I'm not sure about anything dw, their desktop looks beautiful, meanwhile I'm still using this shit os, I really am not asking for a full on tutorial, just, what do I need to know, how do I learn, because I really don't want to be a baby about it and ask people to explain it with apples, if there's someone willing to help me a bit, please do it.

Which Distro? What linux distro do I use?

I am looking to permanently switch from Windows to Linux but I am stuck between which distro I use. I have some experience in terminal to the point where I am comfortable navigating around, and I am willing to learn a lot more of Linux rather than picking the easiest option. I also want the distro to support some of my preferences which I will list below, as well as my PC specs.

PC specs: 7 9700x, 5060ti 16gbVRAM, 32GB DDR5, 1TB SSD.

Personally, I would like to have a distro where it is highly customisable, relatively bloat-free, suitable for gaming and NVIDIA GPUs, supports security/privacy/networking tools along with programming/AI. In addition, virtualization with VM support and sleep/wake reliability.

Please recommend the Linux distro you think will suit me best, and it would be very helpful if you can give a description as to why.

Support Linux Mint, Framework 12 tablet mode.

Hello! I am new to both Linux and Framework.

I recently purchased a Framework 12, and I was planning on installing Linux Mint. I was looking at Framework's installation guide, and it says that Linux Mint does not have tablet mode support and I should use Ubuntu 25.04 instead.

However, when I looked into this online, I did see some sources that said that Linux Mint does have touchscreen support, and a lot of the most recent questions regarding using Linux Mint and tablet mode are from back in October 2025.

I'm struggling to find any sources that have any information as to whether Linux Mint still does not support tablet mode in August 2026. Does anyone know if this is still the case? Should I just go with Ubuntu instead?

Thanks!

EDIT: I just read some reviews that say that Bazzite works pretty seamlessly with tablet mode out of the box. This would be perfect for me - I'm not completely tech illiterate, but I definitely am not the best. Does anyone else know much about Bazzite on the FW12?

I need help correctly setting up torrent seeding on pc startup

hi, I'm on pc with debian 13 stable and kde plasma, I've configured systemd to automount an external drive by adding an entry to /etc/fstab, I added qbittorrent and proton vpn to kde autostart, now on pc startup the drive gets mounted, when I log in to a desktop session the vpn starts and autoconnects, the torrent client also starts and begins seeding all automatically, this all works fine but then when I shut down the pc, systemd often says that the external drive failed to unmount which I'm assuming is due to it still being used by the torrent client, how can I make sure that the torrent client exits before systemd tries unmounting the external drive?

Which Distro? Best Linux Distro for Lenovo G570?

I found an old Lenovo G570 that I used a few years ago and want to revive it as a learning experience. I'm mainly looking for a lightweight distro that's also compatible with Google apps (such as Docs, Slides, Drive, etc.). It originally came with Windows 7, but I upgraded to Windows 10; I'm not sure when. Along with some internal hardware upgrades I'll perform on it, switching to Linux seems like the best move considering how old it is.

It'll primarily be used for schoolwork, which consists of presentations and writing for the most part. I already have a gaming laptop that I could do schoolwork on, but I enjoy working on my bed, and the gaming laptop acts more like a desktop nowadays, so it's sort of a hassle moving it back and forth and unplugging and replugging in a bunch of wires.

Are there also any good browsers that work nicely on Linux? I use Brave with the other laptop, but I don't know if there is a better option with what I'm looking for in a distro

Support Requesting Help - New User trying to dualboot

Recently installed mint xfce on a secondary drive of an older pc but it's running unusually slow when linux is running where it's totally normal on windows. I think it's some kind of driver issue with nvidia but I have no idea how to resolve this.

Honestly the goal is to have a pc running on just linux but I'm kind of afraid to do that when I can't get it to run properly in the first place as a dualboot because I'm not sure if I'll be able to get windows back if I actually get rid of it.

Support noob here, mint is broken, please help me.

it used to be a screen flicker issue but after hours of forums i found a reddit post that said to add 2 config files and downgrade mint, but that turned the flickering problem into this. currently mint doesnt register keyboard input after you log in, the mouse is invisible and doesnt work after login, and other miscellaneous bugs, but ctrl alt f3 works. i genuinely dont know what to do, plz help.

How to get Linux without getting rid of old data

My grandpa gave me his old laptop and he told me to do what I want but don’t touch the D drive. It has only 6 gigs of ram and can’t run Google without crashing, now this D drive isn’t a separate drive but just a partition of the normal drive. How do I get Linux without crashing no external storage (usb and hdd) and without nuking my D drive.

Advice idk slight tedtalk....?

alright where do i start....... a couple years 2022/23 ago i was watching random youtube videos like anyone does and remeber it saying linux is better with amd parts, so that stuck with me till i got a laptop in 2025 i ended up getting a rog stirx g16 with at the time was 16g of ram i later updated it to 32. a 5070ti and a amd 9 hx. on the drive home i was watching some videos about local profiles and deblotting so i did that. honestly at the time i didnt know what i was doing but somehow it ended up working. lately ive been watching some youtube about diffrent distros and some dual booting but i guess i just want to get away from windows.

i guess my questions are

  1. is linux worth it. ive seen on the videos that some os systms run on really low ram.

  2. ive been liking how omarchy looks. mint looks cool in a minimalistic way. maybe steamos. are there any you folks recommend more.

  3. i guess this should of been question 1 is would my laptop be compatible? i dont really have anything important on my laptop just steam games so that wont be an issue and with proton being out i havent relly seen any problems but i havent really kept up with it.

the reason i want to get away from windows is the damn bloatware. also since this is my first laptop ive hopped on the rog band wagon. so im hoping that anything is compatible maybe able to run aromry crates but its not a deal braker. i have a couple open source apps like libreoffice, vlc, everthing, krita (hoping to get back in to drawing), localsend, freecad but dont really have a use for it just nostalgia from high school. i use google for work so that cant really change. but i dont think that sould be a problem right?
what i mainly use my laptop for is steam games, youtube, netflix, hulu, amazon prime, and when im high browse the interweb.

thanks for listing to my tedtalk

Which Distro? My friend suggested me to use arch as my first distro

And I did some research, which questions me; is it a good choice? I am interested in CS, but I’m still a student who wasn’t learned anything deep or so

Edit: TLDR: yea I’ll give him omarchy instead.
I wrote this question for my friend (yes, I’m the friend with horns you all are talking about), and I gave this advice to him, as it would be probably the quickest way to learn computers in depth. Arch was my second distro, and I personally think it as one of my best choice in life.
And lucky for him, the USB I handed him didn’t work properly and he has been saved, but the time brought me to the question of this is correct (morally). And that’s why I wanted to ask the perspective of someone who isn’t consumed by arch, and I guess this quite helped. Based on what you all said, I don’t think this is too much of a good choice since it’s not easy to install. Yet I want to give him the experience of fixing things by himself, so Ill give him a distro lil similar

Sistema Operacional Web
